There's a vaccine (which admittedly no one will give to you unless you're over 50,) and it's also easily treatable with common anti-virals like acyclovir if you catch it early. There's a vaccine for chicken pox now, too. It's not 100% and only lasts for seven years but apparently anyone who gets it and then chicken pox gets a milder case. I guess eradication of chicken pox is the idea but it's not exactly catching on like the polio vaccine.
