The Marty Stuart instrumental album, The Meters live, Fank Turner for my wife, and the Chet Baker are the only ones I can see getting. Hadn't looked at the list until now, thanks for the reminder.

the zevon box set is the only one that's got me waking up early, which means it's either going to be sold out at 7 AM and I'll feel like a dumbass for not having camped out for it, or it'll be in overstock for the next three months and I'll feel like a dumbass for having fretted about it

What's in that box set? Is it something special or just reissues of his old records?

Three of his early/mid-90s albums on vinyl for the first time.

RSD box sets are usually the least popular items and they end up hanging around forever. I doubt you'll have trouble getting one. Even if the stores in your area sell out chances are good that the scalpers will be dumping these at or below retail six months from now.

Good points. And it is retailing for $89.99, which is less than I was expecting. Hopefully it's still around in a month or two. Hopefully commerce is too

As for RSD it's been about a year and half, two years since anything has been offered to make me get up at the rear end crack of dawn, but I'm doing it for that Pharoah Sanders reissue of Izipho Zam. Most RSD releases seem to plummet in price on discogs if you wait a month or two, but I don't expect this to be one of those.

After every record store day, my local record store seems to have loads of random vinyl records like the soundtrack from some forgotten 2003 movie soundtrack. So record stores get to pick what RSD records they get? I can't imagine why they would choose to order lots of copies of random things like that

Honestly RSD is an awful deal for the shops. The shop has to buy a minimum amount of product and they don’t get to pick all the records. So if there is one record people are lining up for, the shop would have to order a ton of product that you can’t sell. On top of that the margins are less than 5%

My shop just has a sale instead of participating in the day.

I did end up going to my local store. It was still pretty busy even though the RSD crowds were long gone. I checked out the RSD bins, and didn't recognize a single one. I wanted to leisurely browse the rest of the store, but it was too crowded for my comfort, so I just grabbed the new Destroyer record and cashed out.

I know what you did last summer, and frankly I am displeased.
I obtained these discs, on this the day of my daughter's records.

The Jeff Bridges record was said to be sourced from a "decaying cassette tape" both in its advertising and on the obi strip. I was intrigued by the other ways in which this was advertised and decided to roll the dice on it as this material has never been released in any form. Well cudos to whoever did the mixing and mastering of this LP because it sounds quite good. Not just for what it is but in general. It's obviously an amateur recording but it sounds far better than you'd expect from a crusty cassette. If honestly had low expectations sound wise so I was quite pleasantly surprised. The music itself is fun and kooky. It's not quite as out there as the ad copy will have you believe but it's plenty quirky and definitely has a sound all its own. This was recorded in the late 70s so what you have is a young Jeff Bridges riffing with some of his friends and at least one member of Oingo Boingo. A highlight is Burgess Meredith's spoken word piece backed by Jeff and his friends. I'd certainly recommend it if any of that sounds exciting to you. It's 50/50 on whether or not this becomes on of those RSD releases that's sold at crazy prices by scalpers forever or you'll be able to get it for half off in the sale bin a few months from now. I'm pretty sure it's getting a digital release though so keep your eyes open for that.

I spent too much on this nerd poo poo, as usual.

Got the Zevon box, the Hindu Love Gods repress, a copy of R.E.M.'s Accelerate while I was thinking about it, the Talking Heads live record, and 400% Dynamite, because I like a good compilation. And the Geddy Lee 12" because I actually really do like his solo record.

Of interest outside RSD, I recently stumbled into a pretty reasonably-priced copy of one of Third Man's ridiculous vault boxes (White Stripes' Under Amazonian Lights) complete apart from the collector's pin. The DVD is actually unopened. I basically assumed that the vault boxes were the sort of thing I'd never have the spare cash to snag, so that's nice.

Awesome! I spent a good chunk of my disposable income in the late 90s and early 00s putting together a hefty Zappa CD collection, feels weird doing the same thing with vinyl now in the 20s. Not bad, just weird.

Yeah, I went into a store yesterday that didn't appear to be participating in RSD, or even have an adjacent sales event or anything. But the store was nicely busy enough by the looks of it.

I bought a "limited" CD release of Operation Doomsday that appears to have released for RSD 2022, and called it there.

Yeah this year's RSD seemed real disappointing turnout wise at my local store. There were a few crazies who camped out at like 10:30pm the night before for... god knows what. I got there like 30 minutes before opening and managed to pick up all three of the albums I requested so I was pretty pleased.

And since I'm posting anyway, here's the pickups I got from our new Goodwill grand opening last week. Unfortunately another guy got to the vinyl before me (my local vinyl rival) so I only got his scraps, but still some pretty great albums and I caught him slipping on some.

I'm hoping to make a nice dent in my Zappa want list this year, if not finish the collection. I'm at the point where I have to give up finding stuff 'in the wild' and just buy online.

There's just 13 more records (stopping before the posthumous releases) and 9 CDs (1995 Rykodisc) on my want list.
