I don't really have the disposable income for a record collection so I settle for CDs but there is no way I couldn't get this: I have had the CD for ages and decided I should buy it while it's still available from *shels and I think I made the right choice.

I'm in the same boat, I ordered it from Roadrunner. On the product page it mentioned a signed poster but the product page seems to have been deleted and I haven't gotten any confirmation emails or anything so now I'm kind of worried after reading that people have been getting money back I only recently got my first turntable and I am keen to hear the vinyl version of this because it doesn't have mastering or something so I hope it comes

I said in the prog thread, I caved and bought the CD/blu-ray at a local shop today and it is awesome. The Hag demo bonus on the blu-ray is actually better than the proper version too which was cool. It's about what I was expecting and I'm looking forward to hearing the vinyl mix when it eventually arrives edit: it shipped strap on revenge fucked around with this message at 04:25 on May 8, 2012 |

I just got my first (cheap) turntable set up properly (it is a Sharp RP1122) and I am surprised by how good it sounds. I guess because the only other time I've listened to vinyl was a 30 year old DSOTM record on a poorly maintained system, but Also got Catalogue / Preserve / Amass by Steven Wilson in the mail today

Pretty good going today: Storm Corrosion feels really hefty and has a cool textured sleeve, the Primus record is this awesome transparent dark green: and Voyage 34 is pretty drat rad all round:

Went to a record fair this morning and picked up a heap of ELO with some ABBA, Bowie and Genesis on the side Also got this: It's the original UK issue with the textured sleeve and besides the spine wear I imagine it's probably as close to mint as a 40 year old record could be VVV Sorry I thought it'd be easy, it's Meddle by Pink Floyd strap on revenge fucked around with this message at 04:50 on May 20, 2012 |

CPL593H posted:That's an awesome find. I don't come across the pre-Dark Side material much, so I always snatch them up if I see them. A couple weeks back I picked up a copy of Obscured By Clouds. The place I got this from has MINT copies of Obscured by Clouds and Atom Heart Mother, I might go get them soon but they're like $50-60 each edit: they also had a copy of Meddle which was pretty good that wasn't the textured one, but it had an EMI logo on the front so I splurged for the original strap on revenge fucked around with this message at 06:39 on May 20, 2012 |

CPL593H posted:I had no idea those two albums fetch that much. Are those for UK pressings? No clue, I didn't check them too closely after I saw the price tag. I live in Australia so there is huge markup on records to the point where it is normal to pay $40-50 for a readily available reissue of a popular abum (I got the newest DSOTM reissue for $32 but it was tagged at $45)

CPL593H posted:Holy balls those are some ridiculous prices. I guess it explains why I was suprised at how much those two Floyd albums were going for. I think at most Atom Heart Mother tends to go for 15-20 bucks or something. At first I figured it only sounded expensive due to the differing currencies, but then I looked it up and the AUD and USD are pretty much equal. And I thought I was spending way too much money on records. GOD BLESS AMERICA! New release CDs are between $20 and $30 here The worst thing is it's just as expensive to order a record from overseas because most people charge $20-$30 shipping, so it's really probably a dumb thing for me to collect \/\/\/ Those look like good stores, thanks for the tip strap on revenge fucked around with this message at 09:56 on May 20, 2012 |

Meddle has 795A - 1U and seems to have pretty much exactly the same info as this listing (edit: also this and this and this popsike one). Is it worth more than the $38 I paid for it? I went and got a copy of Fly By Night by Rush yesterday, and it has a small but really bad warp on the edge that makes side 1 pretty much unplayable, and side 2 skips about 1 second for each 2 or 3 seconds it plays. Is there any way to fix this (I know the OP says no but I wanted to ask anyway) or should I just see if I can take it back? Also got Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings and Fragile by Yes which play like a dream

Holy gently caress. I never thought I'd own this, there was only 99 copies pressed e: Does anyone know how I should store this thing? I imagine having it vertical in its delicate plastic sleeve will cause a lot of wear to it and I don't want that to happen. strap on revenge fucked around with this message at 01:29 on Jun 14, 2012 |

Cpt. Spring Types posted:Whoa, that is awesome. I don't think just storing it like you'd store any other record would cause much damage to it, but I dunno. The sleeve is super-thin PVC which tends to crease like this or even split, so I'm really not sure and I don't want to risk it.

RDreamer posted:Awesome! I have the black vinyl version of this, which I believe was also limited (though more than just 99 copies). Great record. I had the sleeve framed on my wall for a while, too, and had the record in a plain sleeve with the rest of 'em. I think the black was pressed in 500 and the white 1000, and yeah it's a great piece of music, probably PT's least appreciated release (in my opinion, at least). I'm considering framing it so it stays in such good condition, and then maybe getting a black or white copy if I ever feel the need to play it again (though I do have it on CD as well so I think I might be going overboard). I need to stop spending so much money on Steven Wilson's stuff

I didn't like it on first listen (I didn't even make it all the way through) but it really grew on me the second time. I do think it peaks too early though and gets kinda boring towards the end, unlike POTPB (I think side D is the best side of POTPB). It's definitely worth the purchase though, I think.

My haul so far this week: Unfortunately Ghosts I-IV (by NIN) discs 1 & 2 are warped to the point where they don't play, but I've organised a return, and the Spaces record came with a split seam Tubular Bells (by Mike Oldfield) plays like a dream though, which is great because it's the original Australian pressing (same with The Wall). strap on revenge fucked around with this message at 03:28 on Jul 18, 2012 |

I have a question about slipmats. One of my recent purchases came with a felt slipmat, and I'm basically just wondering if I'm doing my records any favours by putting them on the felt instead of the rubber that was already on the turntable.

Floodixor posted:Not quite that much, but definitely a lot of money. It was one of my holy grails for a long time and when it was finally repressed I bought one right away. I bought the album with the full intention of playing the hell out of it so I wasn't that concerned by which pressing it was, but it would certainly be great to have a first pressing for collecting purposes. I don't see the point in getting an original pressing unless there's something which makes it stand out, like coloured vinyl or a different sleeve or something. I get the collecting aspect but it just seems a waste of money if the only difference is the age.

CPL593H posted:Sometimes first pressings sound better than reissues. But I can think of plenty of times when this isn't true. It all comes down to the quality of the reissues and what they used as a source recording. I'd probably put that under "something that makes it stand out". I bought an original pressing of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells because I prefer the original mix to the remastered versions, but spending $100+ more on an original issue just because seems a bit silly to me.

Just got my first picture discs and they are mighty impressive: I have heard people say that picture discs tend to have lower sound quality but I'm not really hearing much of a difference, which is cool. A little bit of light crackling that's inaudible as soon as the music gets loud but I've heard that on new regular vinyl before so vv
