Just got back from a bachelor party trip to vegas.

1) The Vdara is an amazing place to stay. Great rooms, quiet, and not as run down as some of my friends' hotels in other places.

2) Go to Roos 'N More. People were making noise about going to the gun range until I realized it'd be $250 to have any fun there. We ended up taking a stretch limo out to Roos and people freaked the gently caress out at getting to interact with those things. All the single guys have new Tinder profiles with wild animals and the facebook album blew up. Hell of at time and $250 for 2 hours is a great deal.

I had a ton of fun gambling at the cosmo. On off-times, we had $5 and 10 minimum tables. On demand times, they went up to 15.

The dealers were great, the drinks flowed and it really was a pleasurable experience.

But keep in mind that we were sitting there with a table full of friends, a diet coke bottle full of whiskey from the Walgreen's across the way and we were all completely shithouse. The cosmo was totally fine with it, though. God, we must have thrown the dealer $100 in tips over the course of an hour, mainly because each time we did he'd deadpan "Oh joy. A happy meal for me" whenever we gave him $5.

That is my birthday weekend and for years the National Finals Rodeo is in Vegas that weekend, it's a big event, and it always seems to drive prices up. I usually go the following weekend, the hotels are empty, rates are super low, and it's not a zoo on the strip.

Vegas is a big place and has events lots of weekends, this may just be confirmation bias. But at least be aware of it.

That's when I want to come up this year (the weekend of the 16th of December).

However, it's not stupid cheap yet. When does that normally kick in?

For real, the Vdara owns and is a fantastic hotel. Especially for the price.

My friends and I do a vegas trip every year now the week before Christmas. Last year, some stayed in Hooters, some stayed at the Cosmo and I stayed at the Vdara. We ended up hanging out in my suite a lot.

This year? Everyone's in the Vdara.

I'm going this weekend and I went this weekend last year.

It's loving awesome. About 10-20 of my buddies and I get together for cheap flights and cheap hotel rooms. We'll take over a whole table gambling and can get reservations at every restaurant with a week's notice.

This year most of us are staying at the Vdara. The base room is around $100 a night and a buddy has a one bedroom penthouse for about $270 a night. And the vdara is loving nice.

Lotus of Siam was some incredible thai food. I ordered mainly the northern specialties. Specific callouts to the nam kao tod, Garlic prawns and green chili dip which were all incredible. The sausage was forgettable and the pad kee mao my friend ordered was just ok.

Did Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen Friday as part of a joke with friends. It's as gross as you think it is but we had a lot of fun laughing and bullshitting. We also did Chengdu Taste for dinner, which was loving awesome.

Fremont Street was... fine. It's crowded and full of mostly mediocre-to-terrible street performers, but it feels a little more "real" than the Strip. I didn't spend much time there - we mostly just walked up and down it, and saw the dumb Green Day light show thing.

The only other excursion I made off the Strip was to the Pinball Hall of Fame, which was loving amazing. I was a pinball fanatic during the "golden age" of pinball, and they have all of the tables I remember from my high school and college days, plus some really cool vintage machines.

Would also appreciate any bar tips. On the strip we plan to check out the usual over-priced joints - Parasol, Mandarin lounge, chandelier etc and down the old town oak and ivy, the laundry and that microbrewery.

My wife and I are planning a trip for early or mid December, possibly with another couple.

It's her first visit, but I've been during DEFCON. Stayed downtown once, and on the Strip last time. We already have a pretty good list of things we want to see, do, and eat. I have a few questions though:

We definitely want to stay on the Strip and will likely Uber or Lyft to anything that's not walkable. Speaking of which... December temperatures look fairly mild - I'm guessing light jacket weather during the day?

We were looking possibly staying at the Vdara, as we'd prefer a small suite but don't want to spend a fortune. We don't plan to gamble much, so it's not a big deal if there's not a casino right downstairs. The non-smoking part is nice as well. Has anyone stayed there? Are there better options for similar quality/price?

Is there anything we should know about visiting in colder/off-season months? Does anything important shut down?

Thanks in advance!

I pretty much visit exclusively in December now.

Yeah, light jacket weather during the day, heavier at night. It gets decently cold at night (depends on where you're from).

I love the Vdara. It's amazing and modern and very, very quiet. I think it's a steal. I've stayed in the parlor suite and the corner suite and both were fantastic. I'd stay there over anywhere else if my friends didn't insist upon the Cosmopolitan.

Some shows will go dark. Some restaurants will go dark. Most stuff stays open.

Yeah, it's not. They put lipstick on a pig, it's still Wild Bill's. It's tiny, there's 1 restaurant that I know of and I was very underwhelmed by Giada's.

It probably deserves a spot higher on the list but, like I can't think of any real reason to move it up other than location. I dunno, I guess you could probably put it above Luxor?

Pretty much. I tried gambling there last time I was in town and it was pretty bad. The rules were good but the crowd was terrible and the casino was super cramped and full of creepers.
