I don't know if this is technically UK bass but it's pretty grimey and he is from the UK: Hudson Mohawke - Thunder Bay. His new EP drops in a month, Butter was so-so but I like the sound of this so far. e: anthem for this new thread https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-pLVMQxS54 GET MONEY fucked around with this message at 06:24 on Jun 22, 2011 |

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:So a couple of mixes have floated on out there over the past week or so that's really grabbed my attention. First is Grievous Angel's Grime mix. A nice bundle of stuff from the early to to around 06/07. Pick it up here. Those of you raised on strictly Butterz instrumental stuff be warned. This is the original full strength stuff. Some heavy tracks on there, loving the vocals in the second half. Classic bars, plus this Nasty Crew - Run 4 Cover on a Rossi B & Luca production I'd never heard before. Anyone know the riddim from 36:20 or so? Sounds like it might be a Footsie tune with that reggae sample..

Liking this Disclosure EP a lot. The A is a light joint that drops a sweet bassline and turns into some wicked purpley synths with a stuttering vocal sample, while the AA is like a really good James Blake track (remember when he made those?).

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:Actually we were just talking about this a page or two ago. I quite liked the A side, but I thought the B-side was just a bit of a James Blake knock-off. Though I was also casting doubts on the use of 7 inches, and if it's just a way to appeal to the record buying indie crowd or get some big label attention. Should've been stuck on a 12" or a 10 for ultra cool bonus points. Oops, I guess after what he's put out lately I tend to skim over things described as James Blake-esque. I'm also liking this Vesicle track, Smoke Curls, at the moment. Kinda glitchy and very atmospheric. That Mz Bratt + Dot Rotten tune is fun too.

Apparently an older track but I just heard it on Rinse the other day, Eats Everything - Entrance Song. Nice little vocal sample gives it kind of an airy, house quality and then it reveals a sick bassline.

I need some songs in the vein of Burial - Archangel or Sully - Give Me Up or Sepalcure - Feeling I Know So Well. Stuff with that deep and heavy yet fragile sound that you just wanna space out to. 2step-garagey vocals are always a plus. What are some artists/comps/tracks to check out?

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:And there is always Wiley's new LP to make up for it then. And by make up I mean possibly mildly disappointed. Boom Blast is probably the weakest cut, but the rest is sounding a bit hit and miss. And in all honestly I've not got a clue whether to cry in joy or horror at "I'm Skanking". I can see that being rinsed as the standard phone reply for the next few months. "what you up to man?" "I'm skanking!" Hit or miss indeed, always glad to see a proper grime album and every disc seems to have a good track or two but that's still a weak percentage of bangers. Can I Have A Taxi Please has the best beat on the album and it's wasted on an interlude/outro. I wish there was more of a riddim culture in the genre, I'd love to hear some MC's spray bars over it.
