emanresu tnuocca posted:It's a little more involved politically than that; Tommen has no beef with the faith, at least from a PR perspective he's been playing along nicely from the start, this also applies to Marge and the Tyrrells who've subjected themselves to the faith, the Tyrrells would do everything in their power to prevent conflict between the crown and the faith and they probably have just as much influence over the gold cloaks as Cersei does at this point, probably a lot more. I hear what you are saying, I just think that the second the Queen Regent was seized, the army would have rolled in and loving killed everyone - unless specifically prevented by Kevin. I think he also would be the one forcing Cersei to go the trial. With him dead, Frankly, the crown should never let itself be put in that position of being on trial, so for them to even allow that is a loss. I guess I just don't "buy" the power of the Faith at this point. They are only a step or two above angry rabble IMO. If the Lannisters did hole up, the faith would be caught between ongoing sorties from the castle, and an incoming highgarden army. Pretty sure it would be a loving slaughter. I know GRRM has written it to make them more powerful, important, etc etc, I guess I just haven't been convinced by him. I know its ridiculous to be arguing what is realistic in a stupid book about dragons and the rulers who poo poo on them, but there ya go.

There's nobody left to tell cersei she has to go to trial so of course she's going to have her trial by combat in absentia, and prepare to just kill the faith if the zombie doesn't work out. She didn't give a gently caress about the consequences for flipping off the iron bank of bravos and they didn't strip her naked and wake her up every fifteen minutes until she swore she'd see them all die screaming. Even during her confession she held poo poo back, she's no room 101 victim with nothing left of her self to defend. She's a goddamn blood tornado of spite and paranoia and she just got her off-with-their-heads power back. Even if she wins, is exonerated in the eyes of gods and men, and they shake hands saying no hard feelings she is going to kill the gently caress out of that goddamn high sparrow and make a dildo from his spine. Even if it costs her everything she will make a ribbed for her pleasure spinal dildo and plow herself in court saying this is what happens when you loving make me mad.

"And they say the little guy just shot him, shot him fulla handturned wood quarrels right when he was on the john," said Jon Iversson. "Oh yah?" said Samson Fleischman. "Yup, just made a whole mess a the thing, right there on the privy, y'know." "Well geeze, y'know, that's too bad. I'da thought a little guy like that would be more, what would you call it, more humbled like." Samson sat, picking at his down parka. "Guess he did have a touch of the r'hllor in him, after all. Folks these days," said Jon, shaking his head slow over his meatloaf. "Yah, just a darn shame," said Sam.

I realised that although it's fun to jape about grrm's food description porn it's probably in there to show how diferent it's going to be from now on. Pretty much everyone will be starving to death and the lavish feast descriptions will be gone. Probably take a while longer for the nobles though

Highgarden probably has decent stores seeing as the Reach seems to be the breadbasket of Westeros and the Tyrell's seem to be a pretty practical bunch that realizes that keeping the commoners fed and content is a smart move. But that being said something horrible is bound to happen to them. Like Euron Crowseye invading and burning all their crops for shits and giggles.

Probably take a while longer for the nobles though This would work very nicely in the narrative, but there are (allegedly) only two books left. Not enough time to convey the impact of an apocalyptic famine outside of having some nobles miss breakfast. And, honestly, I don't think Martin thought that far ahead; he just likes to write about food.

Solice Kirsk posted:The food descriptions are already pretty rare. I can't remember reading one in years. He's right, actually, after the start of Feast for Crows there are an increasing number of descriptions about how meager the amount of food left in Westeros has become. When Brienne spends 100 pages going to some random castle she notices that the berry bushes by the one entrance have been picked clean and that the bushes were shedding their leaves before winter. When Jaime is leading his men through the Riverlands there's a scene regarding his soldiers rations and he eats a dried pear with barely any juice left in it while wishing for a crisp apple. There's also a few lines about how peasants are trying to get one last harvest before Winter sets in but Jaime knows that there won't be enough time for the plants to mature, plus in the original trilogy of books there are constant references to food supplies dwindling and there being insufficient foodstuffs to last through winter. Honestly the amount of desolation Martin wrote into books 4 & 5 is exhausting and was one of the things that turned me off the series.

He's jokingly referring to the fact that it's been years since the last book. ADWD actually has a bunch of food porn scenes, mostly in Tyrion's early chapters.
