I expect people to sort of scan over them and I generally purposely restate the subject/thesis a couple different ways, because people generally read long posts only if some particular phrase STANDS OUT and strikes out their interest. Like we always notice our names when scanning through posts, and anything else of especial interest. You're totally right that I am guilty of constantly digressing from the subject of the thread to make some connection to some film or historical event or random semi-unknown fact or debunked myth or whatever. I sincerely like to believe that I'm good at taking a subject like... a close-up shot of a big rotted out tree in Twin Peaks and relate it to modernist architecture, or something. Making disparate connections between subjects that offer legitimate analytical insight is one of the few things I think I'm kinda OK at  I'm also consciously being a throwback to "the old days" of internet message board posting. Before Instagram and Facebook and especially before Twitter. I have an '04 regdate but I actually had a 2000 account here originally that I forgot the username of, because I was too afraid to post much the first couple years I lurked here, and there was no paywall then. I only regged an account when they made the bittorrent forums closed to the public and I realized I couldn't log into my old one anymore. That is something that SO MANY PEOPLE forget was really the initial appeal and draw of the SA Forums back in like 2004 when the paywall went up - free porn and movies. That created the baseline of the people who wound up being goons over the last 15 years, I think... It became this sort of semi-secret walled-in fiefdom of people who "got" that the internet was loving stupid, yet still enjoyed a one-stop shop for all their movie, TV, and jerk-off needs combined with hilarious ironic internet comedy. That was pre-megaupload still, albeit barely. Those were the days when Torrents were like the ONE safe way to download poo poo quickly; it'd been DCC over IRC for a while, and anyone who remembers waiting in those drat queues remembers the initial miracle of the torrent. Anyway, back then one-line posts really tended to be... the exception. Most people wrote maybe a paragraoh

Ha, we had basically a 1 for 1 SA starting experience. Only my 2001 and 2002 accounts got banned (file sharing) and I thought that meant I had to start a new one.

The first few pages are nothing like the rest of the book. It's basically just a short creation story about how the God and angel analogues sing the world into existence and how one dude fucks everything up by singing a different song. It's basically how like a Greek chorus would sing the plot to a play you're about to watch. Then those angels enter the world they just made and the more powerful ones become the gods and the same guy that hosed things up before is the big bad and they play out for real the struggle that was only metaphorical before. That's when you start getting your epic battles and really interesting vignettes. If the creation story puts you off just skip it and read the cool poo poo.
