First, a confession: there is a terror in writing a review like this, a low but present thrum, almost percussive: When (and where, and how – responsibly) to mention Maester Aemon? The titanic figure casts such a shadow over Westeros psychic construction (and, indeed, projection) of the Essos archipelago that it may be hard, at times, to unsee his images, to unlearn his influence. And yet, in AGOT, that larger appreciation of influence—and of tradition, literary, cultural, intellectual, psychic—binds these poems in a way that is holistic and expansive. It reminds us (almost to a startling degree, to this reader) that our sense(s) of place are rooted in experience both personal and collective, and are fundamentally told and re-told and passed on. Place, simply, is a gift—and gifts are to be shared.

You know - I predicted a ways back that no matter how little of the book was done, his publishers would drop Winds before the show finale. But now that that date is creeping up - I'm not so sure. The finale will be in May 2019. They need at least some time to proof / ship the book. So if I were the publisher, and I was going to knowingly publish an unfinished piece of poo poo, I'd do something like:

Nov1: First draft delivered to publisher
Jan 1: Announce presales
March 1: Book in stores
April 1: Season premier
May 15: Season Finale

That lets you build on the TV hype and get a full 3+ months of presales before season starts, plus 6 weeks of hard hitting advertising while show is going on.

Clearly that isn't going to happen. I'm going to say it is a minimum of 4 months from announcement to book release. That is where you break down, realize poo poo isn't happening. you scramble for 1 month to get it in shape - announce, and send to printers. I'm pretty sure you have a 2-3 month turn around on stuff like that. But maybe it is different now. Similarly, hitting a "reset" date on walmart was also critical ( you needed to make sure you got on shelves by a certain date ). But that has probably changed too. Anyone have information on modern publishing timelines?

next "ok" schedule:

Feb 1: Book release date announced
April 1: Book in stores
April 1: Season premier
May 15: Season Finale

"we're not happy with it" schedule

March 1: Book announced
April 1: Season Starts
May 15: season Finale - book in stores soon, order now!

gently caress it who cares schedule:

April 1: season starts. You announce book ready, July date, start preorder process.
July: Delay until and then have it in stores Dec 1 2020.

For him though, rather than ending on any type of positive note, or being willing to concede any single point ( eg: Good Game! ) he is stuck in a loop of attacking over and over. https://psychcentral.com/lib/what-to-do-about-attention-seeking-kids/

The problem with these articles is they usually focus on the issue from the point of a parent. eg: give them lots of love! ignore the bad behavior, reward the good. What they don't address is what to do when the little poo poo Isn't your kid. In real life, every one gets tired of them, as they constantly violate the social contract of acceptable behavior. They are pushed to the fringes of groups, where if they are lucky they can slowly learn to integrate. Those that can't end up pretty miserable. Jails are filled with people like this. A quick review of his rap sheet and you can see this in action. Because he is able to side step each probation with alts, they just serve as further encouragement. Where other people would curb their behavior to better integrate with the group, he isn't really interested in that. Come back in 5 years and you will just see 5 more years of temporary bans, people telling him to gently caress off, calls for people to ignore him, and other people still arguing with him.

Truly the only way to deal with people like this is hard and fast rules, where you can use their need for attention to modify their behavior. Forums are particularly bad for this - there is a lack of enforcement that you only be achieved with IP / RL identity bans. And even where you _can_ shut down this type of behavior, it raises questions about what is fair or appropriate - and the mods often come across as authoritarian pricks - which does its own damage to the community. I think what has happened recently with Twitter is a good example - you can exile people from the community, which cleans up the community but doesn't work to curb the behavior. One tactic is to heavily enforce some areas, but allow fringe behavior to exist in pre-designated areas. Basically Ghettos/Gutters. SA does this to an extent. And this thread is probably one of them lol.

I have a hard time taking MM seriously anymore. Or maybe I just can't deal with that whole brand of "documentary". I'm not sure I can think less of Trump than I do now. Between the stuff on him raping Ivana, and him cutting off his seriously ill nephew medical coverage as a bargaining chip - I mean, that is really about as low as you can go. I mean the guy understands at a gut level that the winners write history. He's worth admiring in the same way you can admire a destructive virus, how Stalin subjugated millions through starvation tactics, or how the US split atoms to create the most destructive weapons in history.

The saddest part for me about the news these days is watching everyone be aghast when Trump breaks some social norm, or says something off color, or fires someone "important". People keep underestimating him and focusing on the wrong issues IMO. To tie this back into the realm of books or whatever this thread is about - he reminds of Paul Atreides, talking to Chani and Jessica before meeting with the Guild Navigators:

"He who can destroy a thing has the real control of it," Paul said. "We can destroy the spice."

And in Ender's game:

Ender knew the unspoken rules of manly warfare, even though he was only six. It was forbidden to strike the opponent who lay helpless on the ground; only an animal would do that

He will do whatever he needs to, and isn't held back by the things that bind you and I together.

Oh wait - here is a comparison to GoT... you know how Stannis is bitching about how Robert could defeat people, then turn them into allies? Trump is the same way. All you have to do is bow the knee. He can go from talking about what a piece of poo poo you are, to praising you, to taking it all away again. I hope this is clear enough on the point that I think he is a terrible human being. Anything that I write below this is not to be taken as a defense of Trump as a human, as defending him raping him wife, or even suggesting that he is anything other than a complete piece of poo poo. I have known he is a piece of poo poo for decades. If I saw Trump holding onto the edge of a Cliff, I would be torn on what to do - should I make sure my phone is recording or try and grab that mop of hair as a souvenir. If someone thinks I am defending his actions, I'd ask you to please reread this part of the post, and even if you maybe disagree - give me the benefit of the doubt ok? I swear, I'm not a complete piece of poo poo, and if my privilege is showing or I'm not staying in my lane or I'm doing anything you find offensive or inappropriate - let me know ok? I'm very open to changing my opinions, or developing a new way of looking at things.

With that out of the way, I think it is important to have truthful discussions about people. Mostly just because I find it more interesting. There is a place for propaganda, disinformation, and slander. These are important tools. However, I'm not interested in them right now. Finding out the truth regarding Trump is interesting intellectually, and also important strategically. Misunderstanding Trump's motivation, assets and capabilities has led to enough grief already. So if someone makes a negative, but possibly unverified claim - I think asking for follow up is important. And in this case, I think it is incorrect to say he is a self admitted rapist. I could certainly be wrong!

I do not think an unsolicited kiss is rape, nor is grabbing someone's breasts or pussy or rear end or dick. It's repugnant and illegal, but it isn't rape. I'd also say he didn't "admit" to poo poo. He said he would kiss beautiful women, and that when you are a star, they allow it. They let you do anything you would want to do. eg: I'm like Mick Jagger, or David Bowie, or Magic Johnson or Justin Bieber or Jay-Z or [insert whatever superstar could walk up to you, and grab your junk and you'd be taking a selfie rather than calling the cops]. Being a star means getting sexual perks because everyone loves you. That is what he is claiming and bragging about - that is he powerful, awesome, alpha male. He says this not because it is true, or some deep insight into how he is a sexual predator, but because he feels it will impress Baby Bush, the Hug Pimp.

I just spent an hour writing this poo poo out, but this isn't the appropriate place for this discussion. Point me where it would be, and I'm happy to post there and have a discussion about it. Summary:

Chapter 1: You can tell Trump is lying, because his mouth is moving
Chapter 2: On being a sexual predator
Chapter 3: The Shittiest Timeline ( or "Everything I learned about love, I learned from Pretty Woman and Sixteen Candles" or "Why labeling Trump a Rapist and Racist lost the election" )
