Has anyone got sshfs working in Lion, and how?

I installed Lion and it stopped working, and I'd installed sshfs quite a while ago and have since forgotten how I did it. I can only find source code when I google for it, and I'm sure I didn't compile it myself last time. Can anyone enlighten me as to the easiest way to make it work again?

IIRC you need MacFUSE for that. You gotta troll around on Google and find some beta build that someone made because the one on Google Code is ancient as gently caress and doesn't work. If you look in your Console you should see an error message every time you try to use sshfs. Google the error and the beta build should pop up.

Thanks. I should have looked at the console before and realised it was a problem with MacFUSE as opposed to sshfs.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a version of MacFUSE that works with Lion? I posted in this thread shortly after Lion came out and found out that sshfs wasn't working because MacFUSE didn't work with it. I got told of a link to a newer version, but that still doesn't work fully, I can see the files but can't upload.

I don't know if this is because of MacFUSE or sshfs. Can anyone help at all?

I'm experiencing occasionally crackly audio on my 2008 iMac. It doesn't happen with things played in VLC, or Movist, or iTunes, but it does happen with some flash sounds, and the alert sounds in Adium. It does not happen all the time with these things. I've also checked the connections between my iMac and speakers (iMac -> mixer -> amp -> speakers) and it's all good, this coupled with the fact that it never happens in some applications makes me think it's not a hardware issue.

Does this sound like some sort of codec issue? If so, how can I fix it?

I have not got a clue how to make SSHFS work in Lion.

I'm on 10.7.1 and I've got this version of fuse: http://osxfuse.github.com/ and a version of SSHFS that I can't find out what it is - the 'about' bit is greyed out in the menu...

Does anyone know how I can get sshfs which will work?

I have questions about how applications are launched.

As I posted in the firefox thread, firefox has problems unless I launch it by running this in the terminal:

/Applications/Internet/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin

If I do it that way, it works fine. If I run it via clicking on the .app, it doesn't connect to sites at all. Anyway, I'm wanting to know what actually happens when you click on the .app, what is it within the package that gets run, what determines what file it is that gets run, and if I could somehow change it so that the above file is the one that gets run when I run the .app.

Until recently I had thought it was a profile issue, so yeah I've tried that and through various combinations of tests ruled it out. In fact running the profile manager from the terminal was how I eventually found out it was the launch method that made the difference.

Anyway, I've tried doing:

/Applications/Internet/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox

In the terminal, and that DOES exhibit the problem. I have also tried changing info.plist to use firefox-bin but that unfortunately doesn't seem to fix it.

No error is given, it appears as if no effort is made. The window just stays blank. It occurs with an entirely new profile (no addons, settings, anything), no proxy. It happened first when I updated to 7.0.1 but when I changed to 8.0.1 beta it still happened and when I changed back to 7 it still happened. It still happens after an entirely clean install using CleanApp to remove every trace of the old one. I have no idea how this works.

Remove that extension? Do you get that error on a clean install (is it installed by default?)?

It is not installed by default, but removing it does not solve my problem unfortunately (just tried). Likewise, it works fine if I:

Create a test user account in the OS. Copy across the profile from my main one, run firefox. Then I can browse sites as normal using the addons I always have. However exactly the same profile does not work on my main user account.

Does anyone use Launchbar? I am looking for a way to make it faster and use less memory. As it stands, it takes a couple of seconds to register my input and is using 450MB RAM... Does disabling things from indexing speed this up, and if so, does anyone know what things are best to disable?

All I want to use it for is launching applications and opening directories.

Also, I used to use quicksilver for opening network shares, but Launchbar only seems to index the directories beneath these shares. Anyone know how I can make it open the share root instead?

Lion is really starting to piss me off with how it opens previously opened documents when you launch a program. For example, when I launch Excel, it opens several recent spreadsheets and I waste my time closing them. When I launch TextEdit, it opens several recent text documents. Hell, when a co-worker wanted to show me a video of his dog on his laptop using Quicktime, it loving launched a porn video in the background.

Anyone know how to stop this?

I've googled a bit but only found information about Migration Assistant for 10.6+

I need to migrate from a 2008 Macbook running 10.5 to a brand new Macbook Pro running 10.7. Things I've got available are an external disc to which the Macbook has been backing up with Time Machine, and the wherewithal to connect them on a LAN. Does anyone know of a guide for copying pretty much everything over? The ideal would be for it to be pretty much identical to the user, who will panic if anything is different (I know the OS will be newer, obviously).

I've got a 2008 Macbook into which I've installed a blank, HFS+ formatted SSD. I've inserted the Lion CD, held alt whilst I turned it on, it showed the disc, I clicked the up arrow to load it or whatever, but it keeps showing the apple logo, then a folder with a ? on it. What does this mean? Is the disc not detected?

How did you get the Lion CD? Did you create it from the disc image? Did you use GUID partition format on the SSD? Folder icon says EFI can't find a bootable device or partition.

Yes, I created it from the image like this. The disc wasn't GUID, but it is now and I still seem to be having the same problem, with the folder icon after I've clicked to use the Lion DVD. Any ideas?

Edit: I think it's an issue with the install media. On a whim I put the Snow Leopard disc in and that's working, so I'll install that and then upgrade.

Excel 2011 is being incredibly annoying. I double click on a spreadsheet file, then when Excel launches it always launches that file AND something I worked on some months back and didn't save. I seem to have no way of getting rid of the other thing.

How can I make sure that when I double click a spreadsheet file, Excel only opens that file?

Using Outlook Mac 2011, does anyone know how I can get it to stop keeping the formatting of stuff I paste? If I copy text from a webpage and paste it into an email I'm composing, it keeps the formatting from the webpage and there's no way I can discard it - only apply my own formatting to it manually. I've had a look in the options but I can't seem to find one to stop it doing this.

I have a mid 2008 Macbook on which I have put Lion (maybe a bad idea?). I used to use it with Leopard to run XBMC, but now I've got Lion on it, 720p x264 videos (in box XBMC and Movist) will occasionally stop the sound for a second - as though it's been playing the sound too fast and the video has the catch up.

I've looked in activity monitor and nothing's using up the resources too much that I can tell, is this just a case of it not being able to cope with Lion?

I'm having trouble with playing some movies, my setup is this:

Windows Home Server (2003 based one), serving x264 video to my iMac (works fine on Windows machines, no choppiness) which is from 2008, runs 10.7.4 and I play them in Movist 1.2.0.

Some of the time the video gets choppy and the sound stops and starts. The things I check for are: something using high CPU in activity monitor (sometimes that happens), Time Machine backing up (I stop it), something going on on the server (I stop it). However there are times when none of these things are happening, yet it still runs slowly. The server is linked by gigabit ethernet which hasn't had any problems that I've been able to discern.

What else could cause such problems?

Thinking about it a bit more this seems to be something that goes on regardless of my network connection, since the video I'm currently trying to play (and it's working SOMETIMES) is on my local disc. Another thing I notice is that in Chrome, sometimes when I load a page scroll won't work for some seconds until it's had enough time to think about it - as though my machine is experiencing general slowdowns. However, I've not really noticed anything that could be causing this in activity monitor.

Anyone had problems with Quick Look Helper before? Lately I've been experiencing slowdowns and some of the time I find that that is cropping up in Activity Monitor, using like 40% CPU for ages. It just appears, if I terminate it it starts again and continues using lots of resources. OS 10.7.4.

This is a late 2008 iMac with no SSD, it doesn't crash the machine but it does make it so things like page loading in Chrome is stuttery, and 720p video is unwatchable.

I'm not entirely sure which details are relevant so please forgive me if anything important has been omitted.

I'm using 10.7.4, with mail.app 5.2. I've got it set up to use my company's exchange server (which I can use fine in Outlook 2011), having autodetected the settings. My problem is that mail.app will only fetch new messages when I start it for the first time after completely quitting it. I set it to fetch them every minute but it doesn't, and it doesn't do it when I click the button to fetch new messages either. I never get any error messages that I can see - not even in console.

Anyone come across this before?
