IMHO I wouldn't put all the blame on Apple, usually its vendors have to supply the proper driver code, or Apple just puts out another ad for freelancers to come in and write the drivers. They constantly had to do this for nVidia graphics hardware. Broadcom's known for not supplying the most robust of drivers, but they've been dealing with Apple the longest, since all of the first run of Airport Extreme cards were Broadcom based. I think this sort of deal is why Apple decided to stick with ATI (that along with Intel's war on nVidia), since ATI's been supplying chips AND native drivers for Apple since 1997. MBP with Lion here. How do I disable the trackpad while typing so I don't brush it and move the dumb cursor every time? Googling suggests the options are in Preferences > Trackpad or Universal Access, but I don't see it anywhere.

So is the upcoming Henge dock for the MBA the only thing worthwhile out there? I finally got a nice desk at home and want to do a 27" monitor + MBA setup and would love to dock my MBA in something instead of having all kinda wires hanging around for monitor hookup.

Anyone have a 2009 Mini? I'm wondering if the network card supports jumbo frames. I'd like to use one as a server. I know the 2010/2011 models do but I can't find anything definitive about the 2009. If anyone does have one I can show you how to check its super easy.

Oh you're a champ. In OS X go into system prefs, network, select the Ethernet adapter and go options. Go to the last tab (advanced?) and there should be an option for manual settings. For the MTU there should be a setting of 1500 or 9000. If it only has 1500 then it doesn't do jumbo frames. Make sure you change it back to auto after! I guess it has it unless the prefpane is loving with us. The MTU menu shows Standard (1500), Jumbo (9000), and Custom with a field for 1280-9000. And if it matters, the Duplex menu has full-duplex and "full-duplex, flow-control".

They make sustained transfers on gigabit networks a lot faster. Apple seems to support them off again and on again depending on what Realtek controller they get the best deal on at the time.

If you want a more detailed explanation, look here. Many people use jumbo frames to make transfers to locally attached NAS systems faster. They will NOT let you torrent, surf the web, or print any faster. Could also be useful for local VNC / remote desktop functions. Also for everything to work, as stated before, your computer's NIC, your local router, and whatever devices you are doing transfers to must be all gigE / jumbo frame compatible and all set to the same MTU. And when all is said and done you might get only 20-30% better speeds than if you didn't use jumbo frames. Apple probably figures that with the advent of Thunderbolt, who needs gigE? Well, people who don't have the latest Macs and $50 to burn just on a drat cable.
