My favourite pre-internet example is the guy, I forget his name, who submitted his paintings of anthro rats loving each other to a phone-in art show, and because it was a time before the internet the presenters had no idea what to do, so they just got on with attempting to sell graphic rat loving while trying not to die of embarrassment.

Guy's a good drat hero, quality entertainment it was.

I must know, are there any recordings of this on youtube, etc?

It actually happened on at least 4 separate occasions that have recordings uploaded.

The above post may all of them, but I could not get it to work. Please enjoy one link that will probably give you the rest in the related.

Maybe they were just committed to the legitimacy of his art. I mean, technically it's pretty proficient. Do you want to censor him? Unjust.

Aw, that's not entirely accurate.

I like to try things I haven't done before. Originally it was a sort of research thing, like "someday I'm going to be a real webcomic author and have to know what sort of stuff people like/dislike!", but at this point I think I just kind of enjoy it. Sometimes it leads to these situations where something turns out to be ridiculously hard and takes months and months, and I'm not going to defend it and say "well, this is actually a good business decision", because it's not. Exploring new approaches is just kind of fun, and enough of my audience seems to like the experimentation that it is sustainable.

I do feel bad when this causes massive delays, because I like updating the story, and I like when people enjoy it. However, the freedom to try out new styles and approaches is something I really enjoy, and which does not exist in most other long-running projects. Like, I can tell you for a fact that I'm never again doing something a graphically complex as this update, but I'm still glad that I had the opportunity to explore this path and realize it was a horrible idea. There's a weird sense of exploration and excitement to this kind of thing that I never really expected when I got drunk and started a webcomic. I always thought of webcomic as, like, writing a script and then painstakingly illustrating it every day for the next ten years.

Grimey Drawer
I saw that there was suddenly a few pages worth of this thread and hoped it updated. It hadn't, but good news! It's not the only source of webcomics where the protagonist has crippling self-hatred and self-doubt issues. There's also It Hurts, a goon comic. And if you identify with Pasq (or with Katia for that matter) then you are almost certainly mentally ill.

Edit: If you want to check out the comic you're going to need to start from the first chapter. The first 100 pages build the world in a way you need to read.

Edit: Not only am I sure that I have said that before in this thread but won't check, I'm pretty sure I literally said that I'm pretty sure i said that thing before a few pages back and didn't check then.

Kazerad, I think you're pretty good at writing and illustrating comics even when you aren't using the crutch of misery porn to elicit sympathy and identification with the characters. Obviously your plans on making content in the future might have changed between now and 6(!) years ago when you started this thing, but know that I'll follow stuff you put out.

But jesus loving christ this comic needs to end. I just remembered that Excelsior! dropped the same day as Cascade in Homestuck. Isn't it surreal how long ago that all was? I vaguely recall PMing you on the MSPA forums about some misformatted update at like 3am in what must have been about 11th or 12th grade. I don't even know if any of us have any of the same cells in our bodies since the comic started.

We've reached a point with zero updates. If this acceleration holds up, existing pages will disappear soon, until the comic vanishes in it's entirety.

I gotta hand it to Kazerad. He's got dedication, even if that dedication is to copying Homestuck's flash games and animations at the cost of his fanbase as every slowly forgets this is even a thing.

Alright, guys, the only posts in this thread lately are about how nothing is happening, so it's time to close up shop. If and when Prequel updates again, we can just talk about it in the main webcomics thread. If it suddenly needs another thread in the future, we can always make a new one.
