As long as you understand that Persona/demon fusion is really important, as are strengths/weaknesses, you can safely play Nocturne. I haven't played DDS, but Persona 3, 4, and Nocturne are pretty much interchangeable in terms of basic gameplay. Just play whatever interests you.

Technique posted:I mean including the vocals. Definitely the best use of voice synthesis ever. It blew my mind to find out that those "demonic howls" in the Nocturne music were actually in English. I thought they were just gibberish, or at least in a language I couldn't understand, but some of the Youtube videos of Nocturne music had English lyrics posted with them, and, actually listening to the songs with them in mind they became a lot more decipherable.

Marogareh posted:I remember one shotting myself when i played blind with a focused divine shot to that bastard . Magic is too good in these games especially in this one since you can drain MP pretty drat early in the game to keep on casting. I remember draining Mara of all his MP since i got sick of him casting Diarahan every loving time. I did that too and couldn't stop laughing at myself, since half the reason I like SMT is because I find a lot of the bullshit deaths hilarious for some twisted reason.

Can we not talk about creepy Japanese games that are only in Japanese? God knows there's an unlimited supply of those. Let's stick to the creepy Japanese games in English, like the ones where you fingerbang a robot girl, er, I'm sorry, "permanently stain her untouched core with your DNA", or date a high school girl who looks younger than the elementary schooler your character lives with, and generally callously pretend to get close to people just to make your Pokemon stronger.

Perfect Potato posted:It becomes incredibly formulaic. When half of your game's main plot is "Gee this horrible demon hour sure is weird and a pretty big problem, I guess killing these specific monsters every month will help???", and the only dungeon in the game is Tartarus, it's hard to stay motivated or invested in anything that's happening. It doesn't help that the rest of the plot barely moves at all until September or whenever either, and the school events are major letdowns (Don't they hype something up like a culture festival and it's cancelled due to weather? Great stuff). I don't know man, the impromptu stand up comedy routine with Kenji is one of the best scenes in the game.

I'm pretty sure "Yuka-tan" isn't meant to mean anything since it's just a nickname Junpei calls Yukari by to annoy her - Yukaricchi was probably judged a little too Japanese for an English language audience, plus Yuka-tan has the bonus of being a pun since it's homophonous with a certain Central American geographical feature.

Ibram Gaunt posted:You can still argue it's dumb but the whole reason behind that is the games trying to make you view the demon as an individual, not a hivemind. In Nocturne the demon negotiation made random encounters less annoying because after being burned too many times I wanted to kill all the demons and commit demon genocide.

Technique posted:Every Nocturne battle theme is the best battle theme. Give me shredding guitars and screamy synth-vocals anyday. "Normal Battle" is the best battle theme, though the Amala Labyrinth theme is pretty bitchin' too, but in any case Nocturne makes me wish other SMT games could have multiple themes for random encounters. "Mass Destruction", "Reach Out to the Truth", whatever, doesn't matter how good they are when you listen to them in literally every single random encounter, they get really grating. Incidentally it blew my mind when I found out the demonic howling vocals in the Nocturne music were actually in English. Thanks random youtube person for posting lyrics!

Well, Adachi kind of was a Shadow Yuu of sorts thematically, wasn't he? Especially when you consider his Persona. Incidentally I hope Shadow Yuu also gets Magatsu Izanagi

There's a famitsu leak with the exclusive reveal of the third robo girl, that also features in the tie in Mobage social mobile game Persona Be:4. It's a turn based pachinko dating sim kind of thing. Social links now max out at 108 We stopped making "how anime will the next Persona be?" jokes several pages ago, thanks, though this would certainly top "overly long titled light novel".
