If you finish his S-Link in P3P's female side, it's revealed that he survives the gunshot because of some stuff that happens in the S-Link and he wakes up at the end of the game. I guess it boils down to whether or not you accept P3P as canon? I would, because Shinjiro is my favorite cast member.

If I'm remembering correctly, Shinji's still fated to die pretty soon even then making his 'coma' a pyrrhic victory at best

This Persona 3 praise is kind of blowing my mind.

Persona 3 had awful, awful pacing issues for pretty much the entire game. Not only did you have constant long stretches of nothing happening (because of the strict adherence to the Full Moon model of things happening) punctuated by dungeon trips with little motivation, you have a long period of doing nothing following Ikutski's shebang that was far worse than the small interim between Void Quest and Secret Base. Persona 4 gave you a reason to be doing these dungeons. Persona 3 felt like mindless grinding the whole way through.

In my case was the opposite. In P3 I could do an entire section of the Tartarus as soon as it was available in one night leaving me the rest of the month to hang out with friends, working on my stats and scoring chicks.

P4 was a total drag and since the time slot for the Midnight Channel was the same slot for a LOT of S. Links I was often doing the dungeon in the nick of time and merely to advance the plot.

Different strokes I guess v:v:v

Wow, I'm in the minority. I really enjoyed all the cast of P3 while the Investigation Team didn't do anything to me. I mean, they're fun and everything but I didn't feel a connection with them.

I think with the cast of P3 vs. P4 it comes down to preference, since they have very different focuses and purposes as stories.

My theory is that they didn't really know how well Social Links would work in P3, which is why the main story sort of avoids any potential influence by them; you don't have Social Links with most of your party, and the story avoids having your Links turn up in it. In P3 the story comes first, and the characterization comes later, and as a result yeah, the characters are more like colleagues and you don't get to know them much.

I think when P4 came around they knew how much people cared about characters, and tried to capitalize on that, because the plot is very character-driven. As a result yes, you do get to know your party members a lot better than in P3. You may not want to, you may loving hate some of these party members (I know I suffered because I didn't like Rise), but you have to associate with them. Ironically I think P3's method of AI-controlled teammates would have worked better in P4, since the party members are more characters of their own.

EDIT: Not saying hat both games didn't have their own problems, but they did come at the whole thing from completely different directions.

Exactly, still I felt more natural and relatable the interaction between SEES than the Investigation Team. Granted, I'm kind of a cynical bastard so that influenced how I saw the dynamic in P4. :v:

I remember that when Raidou 2 was released, Atlus said that the lack of voice acting was a stylistic choice to give the game a feeling of a old time movie. Probably bullshit of course, but it's a good reason of any.

There's a few options for that, on the bf3 there's a terminal and a heal spot. There you can revive your demons, the Sawamura Thai on Shibahama Core offers the same services but I think is pricey there and lastly, you can buy revival beads on Rx and Effects

(and maybe some of the tippy-top tier demons I don't have access to yet) The great majority of the designs are the old ones. Which, as stale as they are, are still leagues better than the new ones.

Isn't kind of underwhelming to fight your way through an apocalyptic wasteland meeting all kinds of mythological figures and be greeted at the end by a PR monster of the week?

Woo, after having the game for over a year and a half, I finally beat Devil Survivor 2.

The ending was... huh. I went Kingmaker; I usually don't like "reset the world!" endings because 99% of the time, no one remembers anything, the characters usually don't learn any lessons, and I think that very often it is used as a way to write oneself out of a corner or they don't want to commit to a grimdark "everybody dies" ending. Plus, from what I watched from the other endings, Ronaldo's world is a weird happy-go-lucky world while Yamato's world is "let's act out Escape from L.A. every single loving day." But Kingmaker is kinda... odd. It ends on "you made a New World without Polaris, game over." Well, what does that even mean? Did time rewind but everyone remembered it? Did the void kill humanity off-screen? I was just expecting little things like this, but eh. It was still better than the other picks, in my opinion.

I almost want to play Devil Survivor Overclocked at this point. DS2 had a big gameplay advantage in terms of the joint skill cracks, but I'm a little bit fuzzy on the story. Plus, some of DS2's bosses were just absolute bullshit.

But at least the last day consisted of Jungo with Soul Rage doing 1000+ damage on everyone that looked at him funny.

You made a new world with the team acting like a sort of new Adam & Eve, no idea if humanity survived though

I'm one of these weirdos that absolutely loved the P3 cast and simply felt apathetic to the P4 one, for some reason I felt more invested on the former. Making the P4 S. Links since the beginning didn't help since their character development was ignored in favor the plot's favor.

I thought it was easier to build specific skills onto demons in SJ, thanks to Sources. Though I haven't gotten Mitamas in IV yet, which will probably help. I also liked being able to specifically fuse certain demons to each other. Endless searching just feels like more effort to me. (and including the compendium doesn't help much, since it costs so much and macca is rare on the ground)

I'm a dungeon crawling fan, so I really liked SJ's dungeons. IV's are just boring. I think apps were a little better in SJ too. Everything's so expensive in IV, and even if you can eventually get more skills on your demons and MC, having to buy them for costly app points just makes it feel more like a pain in the rear end. Same with pretty much everything to do with apps. Even if eventually you can do more with them, having to slowly pick and choose which to buy feels more annoying than picking the right load out for each situation.

IV does a lot of things right, but at the same time it makes some things feel more bullshitty than they have to be. I like it, but not necessarily more than I like SJ.

And the password system makes very easy to farm sources, you'll be suffering for money keeping certain degree of balance so you don't break the game in half (at least t the beginning). I don't remember how exactly but I ended with an Asura with Victory Cry in midgame, after carefully planning I passed that onto everyone of my demons making a lot easier to advance on the game.
