Wow, slow thread huh? I think part of that is due to how slow the SDA updates have been. There's a thread on their forums where they're trying to address the issue. I think it's a pretty big deal how long it takes to go from run submission to publication but the admins are at least aware of it. Although there was just an update with Borderlands, FLaiL, Super Metroid, and The Addams Family. The SM run is notable in that the old record was 7 years old. SDA had some ... questionable standards back in the 05 and older era, but my understanding is that this record was so old just because it was that good. Haven't had a chance to watch these yet but they're on queue for me between classes this week. School is making it pretty hard for me to set aside time to run, but I'm going to spend the rest of the night trying to beat my Fantasy Zone record, since I recently found a new technique that kills my dad a few seconds faster. http://justin.tv/peaches__ should be live for at least a few hours.

Nothing interesting on the TAS front either as far as I can tell. Small only 100% Super Mario World is cool but way too long to watch all of. Minish Cap in 1:48:09, Abe's Odyssey in 42:55. Cool but nothing I really want to watch. I don't scour youtube for the latest and greatest though, just tasvideos.

There are a lot of ways to cheat. You can try to use an emulator and abuse save states, you can use a gameshark to modify the game's code, or you can do video editing tricks to make a run appear faster than it is. SDA normally requires several verifiers to check out every run, and these guys have to be trusted members of their community and know the game being played inside and out. It takes a long time to find these people, and even longer to actually go through the videos to make sure everything is legit.

I think the site would ideally be a wiki format where people can pretty much submit youtube playlists or what have you. You can have mods and verification and poo poo while still being able to keep things pretty quick and tied into the community. I think runs should go up immediately and take as long as it takes to get verified. Who actually thinks they're proving something by beating a video game real fast? I don't think hardly anyone is actually interested in faking their results.

I just managed a 4:11 Fantasy Zone while on lunch break between classes. Some of the improvements: - Shop manipulation. The first shop spawns right on top of me and then dumps me farther into the level than if I manipulated the shop to appear earlier. From casual testing it looks like the first shop's spawn timing is determined by Opa Opa's height when the second blimp is destroyed. Everything else seems to be timer based but that's probably confirmation bias. It just feels like every time I have a sloppy boss, the next level's shop appears at the wrong time. - Better shop navigation. You can buy items just with your hand over the text, and scrolling to a new page resets your vertical position, these both save a few frames I guess? - Killing my dad was faster because I found a new way to drop the first heavy bomb so that it kills only the first 3 minions. If it kills the first 2 (like in my old record), I have to shoot the 3rd one to death. If it kills the first 4, the fifth one comes out too fast to hit with a second heavy bomb. Unfortunately both of my snowmen fights were trash and the level before the snowmen was pathetic -- I wasted a smart bomb because the stupid loving enemy ship started divebombing me... those things, and the triangle thing in the corner that occasionally shoots a single pellet, end easily 90% of my runs that get that far. I'll probably go back and try to beat 4:07, which is the time for the published TAS of the Japanese version of the game. Despite obvious version differences, it'd be nice to have the absolute fastest Fantasy Zone time ever Konstantin posted:It's on youtube, although I'd turn off the sound while watching it: From a technical standpoint these are incredible but for some reason I just don't find them at all entertaining to actually watch. SS2 might stay stuck in graveyard, but Mike might be moving my TJE+Kid Chameleon block up a few hours, to switch with God Hand and Viewtiful Joe. I'd definitely prefer that so fingers crossed. Last night I chased 4:07 fantasy zone for over 7 loving hours. I don't feel that bad because like 6 of those hours I was watching football at the same time and would have accomplished nothing regardless. But I'm pretty burned out on that game and I need to see progress somewhere so I think I'm going to start routing out my SS2 marathon route now. Should be a lot different since a lower difficulty means more corners to cut in module management. I just wish there was some way to stream it

So this has been a pretty good day in speedrun news: Cosmo just hit 2:39:05 in MST, making it inarguably faster than ZFG's recent time. It starts about 22 minutes into this: http://www.justin.tv/cosmowright/b/295267661 Second, Siglemic just hit a 1:55:40 No Damage 120 star. Check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yrvV7p_HMg . Finally (ok this isn't good news at all) kirkq and I are going to do a Balanced Elements run of Quest 64. So at no point can any element be more than 1 higher than another. We're probably going to both quit about 4 hours in but I figure some people will enjoy watching our pain. http://justin.tv/peaches__

Last night I got 30:15 on Kid Chameleon 4 boss, right at the doorstep of my sub 30 goal. Less than an hour later I had a run that was 30 seconds faster by Boomerang Bosses but then I got hosed by RNG and the aliens in Woods of Despair 2 shredded me with lasers Brett824 posted:And then ZFG got a 2:37:18 on the Japanese version, making it inarguably faster than Cosmo's new record. I might join him, I've also been seriously tossing around the idea of a segmented run. I reckon it'd go under 2:30.

Had another run 35 seconds ahead go down the drain via aliens. God damnit. The sad part is I forgot to hit my timer and guessed what my exact time was at both bosses I had beaten, to the second. I think I'm playing this game too much.. Cosmo is an hour into a run that's being streamed directly head to head with ZFG's video. He's about 20 seconds ahead at the moment. Will he reclaim the OoT throne?? ? ? http://justin.tv/cosmowright
