Seeing Azerbaijan stand tall while the Il-Khanate is laid low makes me very happy inside. Our day of triumph is at hand!

Honestly, Schizo should have the crazed clown logo, not Crazed. So in my current CK game, a vassal of mine asked to marry one of my courtiers. She's a 0000 clubfooted schizophrenic. Of course I said yes, but I wondered what could have possibly attracted him in her.

It never stops bothering me that in CK being stressed leads to being permanently depressed which leads to schizophrenia. Thats not how mental illness works!

Is that Flanders bordering the massive Brabant? And are the lands north of Muscowy still Frisian? That's some amazing Dutch domination.

Is Wales a Kingdom in Wiz's setup? If so it might not be getting focused on because of culture differences, an equal-level title, and a lack of claims on the throne of Wales.

Wiz, the growth of Crete and Swabia into great powers fairly early on in the LP was fulfilling as it was a direct result of the actions and consequences of both you the player and the audience. You seem to have taken the wrong lesson from all of that... (opm azerbaijan all the way through eu3 won't be that exciting)

Also Swabia always had another power that could rival it.

Chapter 17: Recovery (1350 - 1365) The Il-Khanate continues to hobble, even losing a war to the Abbasids in 1352 that results in Baghdad returning to the Caliph. Back in Azerbaijan, Qutaiba's behaviour becomes more and more erratic and paranoid. He mistrusts his closest advisors, accusing them of being spies and refusing to pay out salaries. He neglects tax collection, claiming that all his tax collectors are stealing from him and channeling the money to his enemies in the Golden Horde. He also cancels all payments to the Islamic poor-houses, hospices and schools, greatly damaging his prestige and making him enemies among the Imams. In 1354, the court has had enough. In a bloodless palace coup, Qutaiba's advisors place him under arrest and confine him to a private room in the harem, where he will live out his days in a gilded cage. Since Qutaiba left no children, next in line to the throne is his cousin Burak, a minor landholder in Syria. Burak travels to Azerbaijan and assumes the throne. Modest, celibate, honest and merciful, he is a calm and competent ruler with a particular talent for finances. He immediately sets about rebuilding Azerbaijan's ruined economy, and slowly the Sultanate begins to recover from the ravages of the Black Death. His peaceful reign lasts until 1364, when he passes away quietly in his sleep at the age of 59. Having lived most of his adult life as celibate, he leaves no children, and the throne falls to his nephew, Mürsel Ildeguzid. Wiz fucked around with this message at 17:31 on Oct 3, 2011 |

Chapter 18: The Return to Derbent (1365 - 1380) Mürsel Ildeguzid is the new Sultan of Azerbaijan. Like his predecessor, he is an honest and pleasant man, but instead of being celibate he is a notorious womanizer, being a bachelor at 38 and having left a string of illegitimate children throughout Syria. On the insistence of the court, he quickly arranges a marriage to the daughter of the Emir of Fars and begins to get to work on producing a heir. Of course, this does not keep him from continuing his old ways, acquiring many beautiful young women for the harem and having countless affairs with the wives and daughters of his vassals. Where he finds some time for statecraft, it is usually to spend the great fortunes amassed by his predecessor, building castles, palaces and harbors and spending lavishly on mosques and schools. Following the births of four daughters and three illegitimate sons, a legitimate son and heir is born to Mürsel in 1372. In 1373, the chiefdoms of Derbent and Semender, formly a part of Azerbaijan, break away from the Golden Horde and Mürsel sees a chance for glory, sending the army north. The Mongol chiefs bravely resist, but ultimately the war can only end in one way and Mürsel proclaims himself Emir of Derbent in 1375. With Derbent retaken, all lands traditionally considered a part of Azerbaijan are now back under Ildeguzid rule. Several quiet years follow the brief war, as Mürsel continues to build up the cities and castles of Azerbaijan and the realm continues to flourish. News occasionally reaches Tabriz of foreign wars, and one particular piece of news sends shockwaves throughout the christian world: Richard, the King of Italy has proclaimed his Kingdom to be the inheritor the Roman Empire, and launched an attack on the Papacy with the intent of conquering Rome and making it the capital of his empire. Only the intervention of numerous other kings who threaten to attack Italy forces Richard to back down, and even so he seizes severel territories that have belonged to the Papal State for centuries. The power of the Guiscards of Italy is undeniable, and the isolated Pope will need strong protectors if he's to be able to hold on to Rome. Mürsel passes away in 1379, passing the throne to his seven-year old son. Except for the small wars in Derbent, Azerbaijan has now seen close to eighty years of peace and benevolent rule under the Ildeguzids. How long can such a state of affairs last?
