Der Shovel posted:It's one thing to "know what's holding back" a game genre or a game type. It's a whoooole other thing to actually design and more importantly IMPLEMENT the changes that will set things free. Everyone who sets out to make a WoW killer MMO "knows what's holding back the MMO genre" yet nobody's killed WoW yet. Even if the YOGSCast guys have the greatest ideas in the world there's no guarantee those ideas will actually get implemented well, and that's the part we're worried about. It doesn't even sound like they have good ideas. The whole problem with Minecraft is there's no game to it. The Yogs game concept seems to be "Minecraft, but with an easier way to make adventure maps!!!". There shouldn't have to be adventure maps. The game itself should be the adventure without having to rely on other people making maps.

I'd be willing to bet there aren't many if any Minecraft worlds as big as Earth. If you have a 10000 x 10000 block map, which is a pretty typical size for a largish server, that's 36 square miles which is about the size of Manhattan.

Either way I can't see how removing the pause affect adds to the gameplay in any way so why bother in the first place? If it messes up multiplayer singeplayer should still have it. The point is there's no difference between single & multiplayer now, and that's a small side effect. It's not like they added it just to make the game harder for you. And a plugin will probably be made that adds it back in anyway. And the sp/smp change is going to make the game a lot better in the long run, so it's whiny to complain about such a small thing.

I'll be impressed when they fix some of the fundamental problems with the game, not when they add gimmicky stuff like zombies wearing helmets. There's still no ambient sounds in the game at all and a lot of missing sound effects. PVP still sucks. There's still hardly a "game" unless you count killing a retarded dragon.

I don't expect it to ever be one. But like with the zombies, the monsters in the game are without exception annoying and not fun to play against. Having to hit them a dozen times with a stone sword is beyond stupid. They should do something to address that instead of adding baby zombies.

Dr. Video Games 0031 posted:I know a lot of people bitch about it, but I'm not entirely dissatisfied with the mechanics of combat. It certainly has a fair amount of room for improvement but I'd rather they focus on other stuff like new block types, new features, etc. In Minecraft, combat is a thing that happens occasionally and I kind of don't want it to be some super in depth thing. Improving hit detection in multiplayer and creating new mobs with more interesting behavior is pretty much all I want out of combat. What more would they do with it? -some sort of death animation instead of the other player freezing for 2 seconds then disappearing. -sounds for sword swinging & blocking -overall better effects like pain animations, blood, sword hitting flesh or armor sound instead of the generic "thud" sound a lot of other stuff that can already be modded in like better balanced weapons/armor/enchantments, better death messages etc. What other professionally made game is there where you attack something with a weapon that makes no noise and they disappear without any sound or visual effect whatsoever. Something that causes villagers to disappear I believe is when the server crashes or is shut down improperly. It's probably because the data for consistent mobs is saved when the server shuts down. So when it doesn't shut down correctly they get lost.

Here is something you can try: The cart will keep going half way up the ramp and back. When someone steps on the plates it stops. When they get in the cart it starts again and can go over the hill since it's faster with someone in it. Downside is it takes two tries to get up the hill, but it might be possible to set it up so it doesn't do that. There's probably a simpler way that will make this look stupid.

Putting the ethics and legal issues aside, why be so lazy and unoriginal and make it look exactly like Minecraft? The original is flawed and looks like crap. And I don't know if they use the exact textures, but they easily could've paid off one of the dozens of texture pack artists and gotten better textures legally that look different.

Which is presenting one's opinions as fact, and also a borderline meaningless statement. What does "programmer art" even mean? If you're a programmer, should you never attempt anything artistic? You're not getting upset because "PEOPLE ARE PRESENTING THEIR OPNIONS AS FACTS!!!". You're getting upset because you don't like them saying an opinion that you don't agree with. You said that "presenting opinion as fact" argument to someone who literally said "I think its pretty bad."
