Anybody else having intermittent problems with Dark Reader since the most recent update? Not a big deal but I've had it break and then re-darken pages while I'm reading them several times in the past few days. Trying to work out if its an issue on my end or something more general, doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when it does it or which pages it breaks on. It's not the biggest issue in the world but if I was an epileptic I'm pretty sure it would be bad news, it flickers back and forth sometimes at quite a painful rate before deciding to stay in dark mode.

Aw jesus christ, firefox changed it's UI again, breaking Unity integration even more, yet again. So I'm not sure if I'm ahead or behind the curve with 106.0.2, but does anyone know ways of reversing this so I get my menus back? Why the gently caress am I still messing with this POS instead of just migrating to waterfox/etc I do not know.

Yea it's probably time to upgrade the OS again, I've been putting it off. Turns out waterfox classic is no longer getting security updates so I'll have to jump ship properly rather than using this hacked up 20.04. I know it sounds like a contradiction, but I'm both greatly irritated by Firefox's constant tweaking of the UI while also being disappointed in how the Gnome desktop still works every time I try it, trapped in a shinier version of win95's sensibilities. It's been a few years, might have to give it another go...

Dunno if this is what's broken your Ubuntu, but the new idiotic thing is private windows being registered as a separate application / window class. In windows this makes private windows add a second icon to the taskbar which is pretty annoying. To reverse it, in about :config, change browser.privateWindowSeparation.enabled to false.

Because Firefox users have a pathological aversion to any change, no matter how small. "Oh no, my precious customized workflow built on top of a rickety scaffold of unmaintained extensions and hundreds of lines of custom XUL doesn't work anymore, Firefox is ruined and forever useless!"

MikusR posted:Why would you do that? Because why do private windows need a second taskbar icon? If that's useful to you it's cool, but to me it's anti-useful. I don't use private windows in a way where they need a separate icon, and having their own group fucks up keyboard window-switching. KozmoNaut posted:Because Firefox users have a pathological aversion to any change, no matter how small. That's dumb. This is a totally cosmetic change. The mechanics of private mode are exactly the same as before, the only change was making new taskbar icons. Meanwhile, frequent UI changes kinda suck for someone like Serephina who is on a OS variant that Mozilla isn't paying attention to. They test their changes on Windows, Mac, and maybe one or two popular Linux flavors. But it breaks others. For some features that's totally worth it, but IMO Mozilla should be grouping these changes rather than constantly moving deck chairs.

I use split taskbar icons because I like being able to jump directly to a specific window by clicking the button. But I'm also doing this on Windows with the classic 98 style taskbar buttons that have title text. Private windows don't seem to use the private icon in Windows, but maybe that's because it's sharing the same process ID so it's bundled with all the non-private windows. Could be worth asking the devs if that's intended behavior on Ubuntu, maybe it's an oversight.

The alternate color / theme for private windows is actually a good idea. Vivaldi has that feature and I use it there. Sadly firefox did it in the most half-assed way. Instead of being able to select a specific theme for private windows, you just get the dark mode theme.isndl posted:I use split taskbar icons because I like being able to jump directly to a specific window by clicking the button. But I'm also doing this on Windows with the classic 98 style taskbar buttons that have title text. Huh? They definitely do on the standard windows taskbar settings. Or are you talking about the titlebar icon of each window itself? If that's the case, they probably just forgot to change that one since a normal firefox doesn't have a titlebar.

Does anyone else have problems with youtube videos failing to play if you change the tab? Steps to reproduce: Start watching a video on youtube. Pause the video. Change tab. Do whatever, shitpost, doomscroll, laugh at memes. Change back to the youtube video you were watching. Click on the video (it does not start playback) Double click on the video to make it fullscreen (now video plays until the end of the current buffer, then stops) Double click to exit fullscreen (video might buffer the next segment and play for a while) Get frustrated, click on the "share" button, check the "Start at <timestamp>" checkbox, copy the link, paste and go on the address bar Video takes a long time to start, but plays back fine, unless you pause and switch tabs again.
