Its so bizarre, if I never watch the drat things because I don't want to, why insist on forcing them down my throat? I assume its some advert thing, but whatever, they're pointless. I don't want short videos and I don't want vertical videos.

I've made a huge mistake.
They're terrified they're losing mindshare to tiktok, so they're trying to make sure everyone associates YT with shorts. Plus a general belief that nobody has the right to consume Google Content in any way other than the way Google want you to?

I know I'm in the minority that I don't mind shorts. I often find cool creators posting highlights of their work.

My issue is with YouTube taking up 2/3 of the screen with random text; the title of the video, the creator's name, comments, poo poo like that.

Dear YouTube, if you want me to use a feature on your video service, then please don't cover a majority of the video with random crap. It's not that difficult.
You dumasses.

I'm with you in that I kind of like them too. But I spend 90% of my YouTube watching casting it from my phone to my TV, and for some reason trying to cast Shorts instantly disconnects it and deletes my queue. I can play shorts just fine on my phone and through the app on my TV, but casting is a no go.

Is there an extension to remove shorts entirely? I've managed to use uBlock to remove them from subscriptions and recommendations but I don't want to see them in search results either. All the recommended extensions seem to be shady as hell or one of those Youtube overhaul ones that mess up other things.

Oh, and Jones was there too.

Check the Issues page for a fix if it's not blocking on Search results. But it seems to be working for me.

Manual installation of the updated version of this plugin worked for me (because the updated version hasn't been pushed yet to the FF extension page):

Exactly. I'm not blocking ads because I want to get to the video quicker. I'm blocking ads because I detest them.

I am getting so many dead spots in my videos now. Screen goes black for a couple seconds and the video buffers like I'm on dialup.

Still better than ads.

None of these work, the shorts still show up as regular video results with wide thumbnails only with the "Shorts" tag in the bottom right.

Oh right there's that dumb shelf too, that one I've gotten rid of but the shorts still show up in search results.

What happens if you click "videos" on the results page? I have to use that anyway because otherwise it gives you useless results.

I use Enhancer For YouTube. Near the end of the options is a section named Appearance. Check Convert Shorts, and it will just show the Shorts Page like it's the Videos page, and watching one plays it like a regluar video.

DF YouTube (Distraction Free). Gets rid of all of the extra garbage Google added, like Autoplay, the Recommended sidebar, etc.

Between the three of these, I get a ton of control over the way YouTube presents things.

Just going to YouTube.com, it shows the search bar on the top, and the left sidebar. The rest is a blank page. And I have dark mode enabled, even if I'm signed out.

When I click on a video, it makes it fit the full width of the screen, and has a little bar under it with some extra controls (I have it set to show Loop, Boost Volume, Toggle Info Cards/End Screens, Cinema Mode, Expand, Speed, Video Filters, and Screenshot).

When I click on a Channel, it goes directly to the Videos tab, and sorts by Latest.

As my quote above says, the Shorts page works just like the Videos page.

Autoplay is disabled everywhere.

I don't think I have anything like that. Unless you mean "Video" in the filter options but that's auto-selected with every search and the other options are things like "channel", "playlist" etc.

Incidentally the filter menu has been bugged for about two years now where you can't pick another option without doing the search again. What a website!

Yeah that, although I have to select it every time as it defaults to "All" for me.

That's interesting, because under the "Type" all I have are "Video", "Channel", "Playlist" and "Movie" and not "All" and whenever I search, "Video" is auto-selected.

Lord knows, maybe its something I've got installed adding extra options. I've got All, Shorts, Videos, Unwatched, Watched, Recently Uploaded, and Live.

Yeah, must be since my browser Youtube is mostly vanilla and I have none of that.
