Every three years or so it does this:

We have something like that in LA, except the flooding is about every 10-15 years, there is a public golf course, a bunch of soccer fields, and a bunch of hiking trails. Its a good use for land you shouldn't let people build on due to said flooding concerns, better than letting some future idiot get strong armed into letting people build houses there

At least he hired actual contractors to rip out part of the wall. My personal favorite highlights were the $10K remodel that didn't even replace the cabinets, $600 on hardwood planks from Ikea to make the countertops, and the new sink being smaller than the old sink (not to mention undermounted to a wood countertop... there's no way that's not gonna rot). Oh and also he paid for custom cabinet doors to be made... for the original 1950s cabinets that are glued to the wall "and are probably gonna come down in 10 years or so when I re-do the whole kitchen". It just seems like for the kinda money he was paying and the kind of work he was putting in anyway, he could have easily gutted and re-did the whole thing for not much more money or effort.

Probably not the worst thing I've ever seen, but still entertaining.

Before I read anything my first thought was "Man, thats a tiny loving sink"

A small utility sink right next to the trash and a prep area is kinda cool, like for prepping vegetables, but they kinda hosed up the trash compactor by placing it out of reach when you're standing at that sink. On the other hand, since the diswhasher is in the island, adding the sink there does not add much more plumbing anyway, and having the sink right there lets you rinse dishes before putting them into the dishwasher without dripping across the floor so it's a relatively inexpensive and reasonable addition. I think overall the island is reasonably designed.

On the other hand, in the second picture there's a truly enormous oven with a second smaller oven built in under the godlike span of range, so I'm not sure what the tiny oven in the back of the first picture is for. Rotisserie or something?

I assumed it was a microwave
