I've really enjoyed Rick Beato's channel ... just randomly started coming up for me, but I was honestly surprised he was a Swervedriver fan based on what he's made videos about. No knock against him, but I had been kinda hoping he'd cover more shoegazey/britpoppy stuff. And yet Mezcal Head is apparently one of his all-time faves.

Solid but there are certainly so many from that period as that’s the last big gasp of guitar bands. Top 25? 50? Probably some list saying as much right?

In 2000 (maybe 2001?) I played in a gaze band that opened for Adam Franklin at the now defunct khyber in Philly. I forget if he was solo project then or just doing some old swervedriver stuff for money. Nobody saw us and I was too drunk by the time he went on to remember.

I also want to toss my hat into the rink a little with my own goon shoegaze stuff and knowing goons for the last 11 years the thread to eviscerate or be cool with. I Spent the last year thanks to this lockdown recording a load of stuff and some with a singer from a band I was in years ago. Sadly I have more time than him to record so it’s just these four with three of him present and one of me doing my best explosions without the silence. There’s more in the pipe wherein I sing but I’m like the faux Andy bell’s sister in law baby cousin and begrudgingly doing it. In true goon style I’m just brute force basement recording myself to viability on the singing “spectrum”.

For fans of going blank again era ride, verve, and smiths.

Ah sorry. Yeah there’s a band camp. I didn’t want to be too goony and shill my stuff too hardcore. I’m proud of never being banned so like I always feel as if I’m borderline close to it with this stuff.

Curious if y’all might help find new stuff. I felt like posting mine because obviously it’s new but I never really find new stuff. There’s diiv but they’re older now and I learn more towards their older than the new. I just recently found out about flyying colours but they’ve been around too. Nothing is cool too of course but they kinda remind me of stuff like bush. Maybe I’m just too old and lived too close to that era so gaze to me was verve, slow dive etc. Like best shoegaze of 2021 are what bands? I know gaze has become this all encompassing term but anything new?

The active band that hits the original shoegaze sound sweet spot for me the most is Peel Dream Magazine

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQqSPd0cuUg

bdrmm is also very good, they pull in sounds of the 80s 4AD bands, or maybe The Cure / Siouxsie

I will always listen to anything Ringo Deathstarr puts out

Also, maybe it's a bit cheating to include him, but if you haven't listened to it yet Andy Bell's solo album from a few months ago is very good

It'd be nice if the "You Made Me Realise" EP and their other material absent from US streaming joined the scene. I haven't heard m b v in forever and can't remember if I liked it or not.

Soo ... based on social media posts it was more material added to the streaming services and a some physical re-releases. In the states so far the only thing new is m b v. I'll be revisiting that one today at work.

I still miss my You Made Me Realise CD.

While I fully understand the need to have it as an individual physical object, it is available on the EP's 1988-1991 compilation album, but you probably already knew that :)

Yeah, I'm a tiny bit disappointed with this.
It's great that the major works are available on streaming for everyone, and that the re-issues seems cool, with Loveless having 2 versions on CD and all the vinyls also getting a free download thrown in, but I had really hoped for more.

I did not actually. Was it a release that happened in the huge gap between Loveless and m b v? That compilation is also absent from US Spotify, but it's apparently going to see a physical re-release.

Also, I found my CD single for "You Made Me Realise" and the one for "Feed Me With Your Kiss" (which I don't even remember buying back in the day). I dumped all my CD's back in a great purge due to a combination of not wanting to haul them around when I moved, and the constant vehicle rotation. The latter became even more of a moot point when streaming took off and it was just easier to play music from a phone or from a service hooked up to a home stereo, and since MBV were readily available on Spotify (and my Zune/Groove back in the day) I dumped a huge amount of stuff. Most of it with no regrets, although I do miss the two Submarine CDs and the Curve that I purged. I had the foresight to rip them though, so they hopefully they live in my iTunes for all time.

Curve needs to follow Kevin's lead and put their stuff on streaming services.

It was released in 2012 by Sony and then a year later by MBV themselves.

I bought the EP compilation on CD from Amazon a few months ago. I wanted the Isn't Anything re-issue but couldn't find it so I got the comp instead. I think it's the Sony version. Getting major-label stuff on CD is a good idea because you can rip them to FLAC and not have to worry about audio watermarks ruining the sound (UMG :argh:). Google Play is dead anyway, so aside from Amazon and iTunes (neither of which I want to support for various reasons) I don't know anywhere else to get major-label digital albums.

I second buying from Bandcamp whenever possible.

It's even more frustrating that it's not even a situation where Spotify is devoid of ALL Curve. They just don't have the two Curve records I don't want to hear. Come Clean isn't horrible, but it definitely more produced as if they were going aiming for commercial and heavy radio play. I haven't listened to Gift in a hot minute. I should give it a shot.
