Slowdive stuff

Nice selection, though I always thought that Untitled 3 is their best unreleased song. It's also probably the most representative of their sound overall.

Slowdive warms my heart because I have a story associated with them. My father used to play "Machine Gun" sometimes when I was little, and it kind of stuck with me. I could remember the melody, but didn't remember what band it was band, nor did my father ever know what I was talking about. Ten years later I'm on a 90's music binge, and behold, the song I remembered from my childhood. It was such a good feeling, and then it happened all over again with Crazy for You :swoon:

edit: have more Slowdive, here's Sleep:

M83's new album is, as mentioned above, absolutely incredible. Songs like Raconte-Moi Une Histoire put a nice smile on your face when you listen to them :)

Well, opinions differ, I think that song may be the absolute worst travesty to music ever. It's so bad I can't stand thinking about it.

Still going to see him in February, maybe he'll play some older tracks.

Alcest is coming near me in a few weeks, but he's only supporting some metal band I'm not interested in (Katatonia). I also have noone to go with, so I'd pretty much just go for Alcest and then head home.

Has anyone seen him live, is it worth it? 75 bucks worth?

It's really good.

And once again I'll miss their concert because I'm going on a skiing trip. This is like the 4th time

I think Drop Nineteens' album Delaware is part of the essential shoegaze catalog. Their song and the video for it, Winona, is one of my favorite songs. The riff is just amazing.

yeah that's a great song. I haven't been able to track down their 2nd album though, is that any good?

I think some tracks from Lantlos new album have a great shoegazy feel, especially Jade Fields. I can't stop listening

has anyone seen Nothing live? They're coming to town in three weeks and I wonder if I should see them

Ok, I'm into more "normal" shoegaze, although in an oddly limited way, but I'm looking for stuff there may not be a whole lot of. Basically those two Alcest albums where he threw in a bunch of metal and did growls and it was still somehow shoegaze? (Écailles de Lune, Les Voyages de L'Âme)

Is there more stuff like that out there somewhere?

e: gently caress, I killed the thread :smith:

try the first two Lantlos albums, Neige is on there doing his signature vocals

definately check out Deafheaven who are the best band in the world etc and whole metal community hates them and so forth (they rule)

Amesoeurs (Neiges old band) has a couple good songs on their album, but the direction is really all over the place

and perhaps a long shot but if you're into the more-black-metal-than-shoegaze, maybe just maybe you will like Wolves in the Throne room (but not the latest album, that's ambient)

Rachel Goswell has a new band with some other known folks. It's not very shoegaze but it's great

This is just a masterwork of building and releasing tension.

In the first bit, listen to Elizabeth and the piano. Note how the piano is just *a smidge* behind her. Her voice here is right on beat, but because the piano is a little off it creates a little discordance, and starts the tension in the listener. Then, as she builds towards the chorus, she abruptly stops and loops back. That lack of resolution amps up the tension.

Then the beat drops after a second time through, around 1:50, and releases all that pent up tension. It literally takes my breath away. You feel swept forward as if by a strong breeze.

Next verse with the full instrumentation note now the piano and her voice are on beat. This serves to my ear to really drive the song forward with greater pace even though the tempo hasn't changed. (There also seems to be a shift from minor to major keys but I do not have perfect pitch and am probably wrong on that.)

It's just magnificent.

man that is a good description. My fav song of theirs

Nothing has a new song out. I do like this new faster and darker direction! I was kinda disappointed with the previous album for being too mellow (though it really grew on me), so this seems like a good change

oh man , thanks! I thought he was back to only doing Godlfesh now... which is also great

It's cool that he finally separated the two, Jesu is the mellow "side project" and Godflesh is... loving Godflesh
