Wasn't expecting the clean vocals from the new drummer instead of the new keyboardist. Digging the new track, though the new album isn't out until the fall.

Yeah this is some good poo poo. It not the beacon but its good.

The only reason why I like Enslaved really is because of the clean vocals mixed in otherwise they would sound like every other black metal band imo.

I have finally caught up to the end of this thread over the last few months. Thanks for all the links, not sure how I would have discovered many band's existence otherwise. I tried to click most of them or at least put interesting things on a list for later. That list got quite long so I'm now looking trying to narrow down a bit.

Stuff I am listening to now:
Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Unleash the Archers, Judas Priest, Mystik
some Black Sabbath, Dio, Doom soundtrack, and bits and pieces of various bands I usually like only a couple songs of.

Things that I am looking for recommendations about:
-more power metal, maybe leaning a bit darker?
-There was a good amount of the Black and some Death metal stuff posted I liked the sound of but I just can't get into harsh vocals. If there is a subgenre of Black metal without shrieking I might be into that but don't know if that exists or is just not considered black metal. I came across a Dimmu Borgir concert on youtube with choir/orchestra that seemed decent, though I get the impression that was less black (for lack of a better term) than most black metal I tried.
-Symphonic elements are good additions but plain Symphonic metal as a genre hasn't given me anything interesting yet.
-I noticed I like bands/covers with female vocalists, excluding harsh vocals or opera vocals which I dislike, which doesn't seem to leave too many.
-Doom metal that leans towards the above stuff might be worth a shot. I tried some from a post while working and realized after a while I felt it was good but couldn't give a reason why or recall any of it standing out from the rest. Not sure if I liked it or it was just better than silence as background.

ElvenStorm, speedy french power metal with a woman on vox, a bit darker in sound than the usual fanciful European power metal
Bloodbound's latest album is pretty much perfect power metal for me. Symphonic and catchy choruses, the best pm album to come out since Twilight Force's debut. Speaking of, check out Twilight Force for cheesy symphonic power perfection.
Sonata Arctica's first 4 albums range from speedy silly songs to slower darker material
Savage Circus is just pure Blind Guardian worship
Ancient Bards, fairly standard symphonic power performed extremely well with a woman vocalist. They occasionally employ very light harshes and melodic death passages so it could be a good way to dip your toe into that genre.
Dawnlight, shameless Sonata Arctica worship if you dig any of their material
Timeless Miracle, absolute peak power metal imo. Nonstandard lower vocals, songs aren't shred fests and instead try to tell goofy rear end stories about werewolves and the devil with a sort of bard's quality to them if that makes sense.

For doom, there's only one album that matters

There are a ton of 80s metal bands with woman singers that sound like Doro Pesch.

Warlock (Doro herself)
Messiah Force
Black Knight
Znowhite
Chastain
Original Sin
Acid
Detente

And plenty of modern bands that follow in that tradition

Demona
Christian Mistress
Crystal Viper
Chalice
Satan's Hollow

My friend, you need to listen to Karelian Hills by Psychework. It's power metal (well some of the tracks are at least), it's pretty dark, and it's got melodrama and orchestrations out the rear end. I realise that last part is not something you mentioned you specifically want more of, but gently caress it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_sAecPORdQ

Like, I don't think it should be physically possible to listen to this song without making dramatic sky-reaching hand gestures along with it.

EDIT: Here's a more power metal song off the album, hope the video is not region blocked for you since it's one of those autogenerated ones
