The one genre I can (almost) always count on Spotify for is power metal. Any time I pull up the list of new releases and find something I want to jam, it's on Spotify without fail. The only things I can't find are certain classics.

Lots of metal is missing from Spotify because of defunct labels and a lack of reissues. They've also had weird battles with Earache and Nuclear Blast as far as I can tell. Carcass is finally back up.

Autopsy are releasing their first live album from one of the last shows I went to on 3/7 at Reggies in Chicago where they played with Cianide. This is the first time I've ever been to a performance that became a live album so I'm super stoked to hear this. https://twitter.com/DMTMPromo/status/1302014482055651330 Edit: Also, new Mork Gryning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZH77LLXKYg FanaticalMilk fucked around with this message at 20:19 on Sep 8, 2020 |

I don’t listen to any dsbm so I don’t have any recommendations but just wanted to say that Happy Days is a fantastic name for a dsbm band, I’m a fan just based on that.

Kim from Lifelover has a side project called Hypothermia that is also excellent if you like your DSBM with a lot of ambient/post rock stuff.

Don't know much(anything) about depressive black metal so I can't help there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8cth-Pe5os This is sounding killer in my headphones right now. The main riff and pacing of the song are just giving me total Dio vibes and the solos are rippin, feeling Maiden-esque. I like the overall production as well. I kinda fell off Spirit Adrift for their previous album.

I'm listening to their 2019 album, Divided by Darkness, and this kinda rules. I've been trapped in a power metal rut of Sellsword/Symphony X for a little while now and this is nice. edit - oooooh that title track is beautiful. Comes in with a nice guitar duo, kinda hot & quick and then the bottom drops out and it just gets MEAN. Very Sabbath-y Omnikin fucked around with this message at 16:13 on Sep 10, 2020 |

Yeah I went back and listened to Divided by Darkness and enjoyed it as well. I think when it came out I was hoping he would lean more into the doom sound from Cursed at Conception and it fell a little flat for me. Really looking forward to the new album if its more that sounds like the singles.

So they managed to pull off K-Town again, even though it's just 200 seats, seated with no mosh pits and lines and masks (the ticket comes with a pretty neat reusable mask that has a grinning virus on it and ACAB!) Yesterday I heard: Kasshuve (Swedish for 'Shithead' or so) who delivered amazing energetic HC with a little käng attitude! Skrot from Göteborg, who plays threadmill crust with your standard kinda belting slogan hardcore lyrics. Not my thing, but you could do a lot worse. Big Mess who started out as kinda emo project but now is unashamedly pop and do a pretty decent job of it. JUNTA who definitely played the concert of the day. Angry chaotic HC a la K-Town the way I like it! Gorilla Angreb - Local X/No Wave legends who are always a pleasure to watch, but haven't put out anything new for 10 years and it's more of a hit parade, really. Later today NERVEGAS, Slöa Knivar and The War Goes on, gonna rip Tias fucked around with this message at 14:08 on Sep 13, 2020 |

Cynicus posted:I miss live shows. I'm dyin over here. I watched the behemoth livestream with a few friends last weekend. And whether you like behemoth's music or not (Never been too big into them) it was a hell of a show and a nice break from everything, even better having watched it with friends on zoom so we could chat and have beers together. Still I need real live music... ugh, so many shows I was looking forward to. Even if covid is figured out by next summer, traveling to europe to complete my wacken journey that has been postponed seems pretty unlikely for me. Decided to pick up a ticket to Psycho Las Vegas and make Mercyful Fate a sure thing (alongside Emperor and Danzig, actually the whole line up seems the best since king diamond headlined a few years ago) all depending of course on Covid somehow being figured out... I need something to look forward to/hope for. Anyone else thinking about going to Psycho if its safe next year?
