i unironically and honestly love when bands bring 2 full stacks to a bar with 100 occupants. Maybe it's because I always wear hearing protecting but I love that rumble/full body massage.

I once lived in an apartment that had a soundproofed (ish, the original owner was a sax player who didn't wanna disturb his neighbors) room and I used to love putting a 100 Watt Tube Head in it, throwing on ear protection, and playing doom riffs. Like a kid pretending I'm Matt Pike lol

I think my favorite drum sound in tech death is from Omnivium by Obscura:

I initially didn't really like how the snare popped when I first heard it, but it started growing on me the more I heard in context with blastbeats.

Legion was a huge gateway album for me and it was awesome to see it performed live from start to finish. And I thought Glen Benton sounded/played pretty loving good for a guy in his mid-fifties.

Petrychor's atmosphere is so thick and moody, my personal favourite is the nearly 30 minute opus, "Apocalyptic Witchcraft". It's a pity the guy behind it Tad Piecka seems to have dropped off the face of the earth - Youtube channel linked is some of his acoustic fingerstyle work.

Olhava's latest offering kind of scratches that itch, even though there's less lead work.

Since we were just posting riffs....

I made a guitar nerd video about metal chugging. I included a compilation of chuggy riffs and made an effort to get some of the finest chugs in metal history.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lf7hVMYlSo&t=49s

Video is time-coded for the chuggy part (but in case something fucks up...from 49 seconds)

Did I miss anything gloriously chuggy? (Bolt Thrower obviously got a mention)

Do any of y'all have history with Botch? They just released their first single in 20 years:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNbOEoju0IM

I know David Knudson's guitar work well because Minus the Bear is one of my favorite bands, and I love Russian Circles which Brian Cook is in, but I never really listened to Botch before. I do like this single, though.

He can't kill me. I'm indestructible. Everybody knows that

I was just listening to this, Botch were a huge influence on me so this is extremely cool. I was massively disappointed when they split up, the various bands the guys formed didn't do anything for me. They seemed like the last band from back then that hasn't reformed as well!

Had 'We Are The Romans' on again recently and that's still a great album.

This is their tamer album artwork. The actual artwork (which you can see if you look them up on Encyclopedia Metallum) is a bit more, um, explicit. Apparently he was offered to be the lead singer for Skeletonwitch but had to turn it down because he couldn't go on tour for eight months due to having kids.
