I kind of went lukewarm on Ghost even though I loved Opus Eponymous when it came out. I think I just discovered bands in that style that I prefer, like Year of the Goat and The Devil's Blood. Somewhere in my folk metal browsings, I came across Corvus Corax, who are labelled Neo Medieval: bagpipes, big ol' drums, chorus singing lyrics in Latin, stuff like that. Found myself headbanging to one of their shorter, faster tracks, "In Taberna". Turns out they have some weird, industrial side-project. Tanzwut. TanzWUT, indeed.

So, this new Tenacious D album leaked. I'm not sure what I think of it yet. It definitely has some solid, solid tracks, but there's still a handful that just aren't that good. There wasn't a bad song on that first album. I'm afraid they'll never rekindle that fire. Unrelated note, I think Blood Ceremony is my favorite of this new wave of classic occult metal or whatever we're calling it. Does it have a name yet?

Oh poo poo Akercocke broke up. Well that sucks they released some great albums, I loved their style of progressive blackened death metal. Words That Go Unspoken will always be my favorite, loving great album, check it out if you haven't.

I need something to listen to on the go and recently, I discovered Gama Bomb. It's nothing spectacular, but I kinda dig the cheesy tongue-in-cheek thing they got going there, it's seriously fun to listen to. I know a shitton of new thrash metal bands appeared recently,but sifting through those, most of them have nothing to go for them, really. Is there anything like this, something that wouldn't be all uber-heavy and serious, while keeping the basic thrashiness?

The latest Diablo Swing Orchestra album is pretty darn solid. I don't know why people were complaining about the Korny electronic breakdown at the last 30 seconds of the last song. It actually is a pretty good song that starts slow and mellow with a dude singing over violins and slowly descends into chaos during the course of the song. In other words, it isn't the main gimmick, it is a crescendo that the song builds to, which is in my opinion a good way to do it. Other than that, the entire album is fantastic, especially the first couple of songs. If someone can recommend a band that makes me want to get my dancin' shoes on like this one, please do.

Anybody going to Tuska in Finland? I'm thinking of booking a room for 2 persons to lower the costs (I'm going from the Netherlands) and I might as well put my life at risk with a goon. Anybody? Edit: Also, as an alternative, if any kind metal soul can host me, that'd be great. I just had to spend a lot of money because of a family member's disease, so my chances of being able to pay for a hostel are pretty slim. I've been checking their website seemingly every few hours in hopes of them announcing a US tour. If nothing changes on that front, I'll very likely be driving from Texas to Toronto. My friend and I have already gone and ordered our passports in preparation. Waiting for a concert date is so tough, but the excitement of going to see your favorite band after waiting 3-4 months is nearly unmatched.

I dunno that you can start anywhere, there's a reason people are only posting their first 3 full lengths  You can safely ignore the EPs, they're basically outtakes of stuff that wasn't good enough for the albums or them messing around with neofolk. Their 4th one wasn't bad but it didn't grab me like the rest did. They put one out every 4 years or so which is why there's a pretty big difference between styles, while the first one has some great songs it really sounds a lot more amateurish. You can tell the vocalist is still figuring out what to do with his voice and the random guitar solos seem pretty out of place for Agalloch.
