A guy at a bar I used to frequent was in a slam death metal band called Septic Asphyxiation. He gave me a CDR entitled "Vaginal Gingivitis" and it had a crude sketch on the cover.

A year later I was at the local record store browsing through the metal section and some guy came up to me and told me to check out his band, Septic Asphyxiation. I told him his bandmate gave me a copy. He then said "You see that cover art? I drew that, sick poo poo, huh?"

Here it is:

I can't say how much I love that the font choices make it look like the album is called Asphyxiation and the band is Septic Vaginal Gingivitis.

I know nobody else listens to them, but FYI the new Therion is pretty great. I'm only halfway through but I'm really digging it. And there's a lot of it, at over three hours of music.

Reminds me a lot of Blind Guardian's Night at the Opera, which had to grow on me, but this is clicking pretty quick.

If you're into that kind of stuff, anyway.
I kinda progressively lost interest over the last three albums but I did queue up a few older songs just the other day. And this at least seems worth checking out.

The Addicted! version of Hyperdrive is so SO good.

For me I think DTP peaked with Addicted!. Ghost+Deconstruction were good but I think at that point there was already signs of the pressure of making four albums back to back getting to him. Ki and Addicted felt a lot more natural. Not to say he hasn't had some awesome stuff since then but I think he really benefits from the time away from the grind.
I quite liked Epicoloud overall, but then I was pretty late to the DTP party and I did see him on that tour so that might have something to do with it.

All their stuff is on bandcamp now https://mastershammer.bandcamp.com

I didn't think the last album was very good(too many wacky electronic beats and unmemorable riffs) but the new one sounds more promising, seems like being a live band might have given them some creativity.

What is power electronics

Power Electronics is a subgenera of industrial focusing on extreme abrasiveness, dissonance and non-musicality. It's kind of the western equivalent of Japan's harsh noise scene, but power electronics is more focused on synthesisers than Japan's electroacoustic and digital approach to noise.

A human heart posted:

The track isn't even particularly noisy so I really wonder what people are complaining about, but I'm pretty skeptical of that claim. Important why, and compared to whom?

You should check out her solo stuff. Thematically it's important because it's a direct confrontation of the glorification of misogyny in the extreme music scene, her lyrics are generated by Markov chains fed pornogrind and extreme metal lyrics, mixed with her own police reports documenting sexual assault. Musically, she's combining classical, especially pipe organ music, with extremely abrasive, cold and digitally distorted noise and opera singing, it's cool as hell. As far as comparisons, Pharakon I think would be the current big name in PE, and while I love Pharmakon, her stuff doesn't effect me like Lingua Ignota. Ditto Ben Frost, who's arguably PE, but again, just isn't as brutal or gut punching as Lingua Ignota.

I listened to some of it and it didn't seem overly ground breaking to me(in the sense that mixing more 'musical' elements with PE isn't new) and cold overly digital noise rarely sounds very good. I don't think it's terrible music but to call her the most important artist in PE when there's a lot of very interesting new artists(as well as older projects going in new directions) in the genre breaking new ground all over the place seems pretty short sighted. You also need to look at your history, PE predates Japanese noise(and characterising Japanese noise as having a 'electroacoustic and digital approach' is just kind of bizarre and seems to ignore half of the most important artists in the field).
