If I understood correctly, they've actually relocated to Finland (I think the actual band consists of no more than 2 members, though I'm not sure if that is the case with the latest album). And they're planning to play live gigs.

Ninja edit: Anyway, I like them a whole bunch.

This (along with a lot of Finnish metal, it seems, i.e. Moonsorrow) captures kind of a eerie/out-of-this-world/supernatural affinity/very very distant type of music.

Even their newer stuff, which isn't metal and this thread may not like, captures that essence.

What I don't understand is they are Russian, lived in southern Russia (Челябинск), and moved to Finland. Are they like me? Or did they grow up with Finnish? Are their ancestors Karelian? That'll be a fascinating story.

Moonsorrow is my favorite album for 2011.

This new artist Juliet debuted her single today. I don't know, it seems okay but it sounds really slow, as if there's a lot of build-up and not enough riffs for a 0m58s song. Also it seems really mainstream. Already 19k likes from an up-can-coming metal artist? Really?

Diablo Swing Orchestra released a new song. I love these guys, though if you haven't heard of them you should know what you're getting yourself into. It's metal (kinda barely) with a fairly legitimate opera singer and compositions with really heavy swing-jazz influence with lots of cello and brass and stuff.

Their two albums are both fantastic. If you're into this kind of avant-garde poo poo, I can't recommend them enough.

In YOSPOS we are using this site to share music (called turntable.fm).

So I thought the metal thread could come kick it and share their music. Just go to the Something Awful Metal room and sign in with twitter or facebook (it takes less time to make a throwaway twitter than it takes for you to bitch about it), queue up some lovely music, and get a live coder-jukebox.

Lurkers and neckbeards welcome, but try not to get butthurt if your 'totally hilarious ska parody song' gets skipped.

Hello friends!

Time for some album(s) news. Wintersun's "Time" is going to be two albums, titled TIME I & TIME II. We made this decision simply because of few reasons:

- All the 80min of material wonŽt fit on a regular CD and we didnŽt want to cut anything out.

- We want you to be able to hear new material sooner and not wait any longer and we want to go on tour sooner.

- The music is very full and complex, so listening this kind of "hard listening (not easy listening)" material straight for 80 minutes is a bit too much (even for me). Both albums will be approx. nice 40 min epic packages of fireworks.

- We like the idea of releasing two albums within one year, so the band will stay more visible longer, which is important in these "modern times". No more years of silence for us!

We hope youŽll approve our new little "plan" and support us when the "Time" comes!

The tracklisting for TIME I looks like this:

TIME I

1. When Time Fades Away
2. Sons of Winter and Stars
I Rain of Stars
II Surrounded by Darkness
III Journey Inside a Dream
IV Sons of Winter and Stars
3. Land of Snow and Sorrow
4. Darkness and Frost
5. Time

TIME I mix is set to be finished by July, mastered in the beginning of July and released in early fall of 2012! TIME II will be released in 2013. Conception of album artworks, videos, live shows incl. rehearsals will keep us busy during the summer and IŽll also continue mixing TIME II meanwhile. WeŽll be hopefully posting some videos and teasers during summer. Also some new live show announcements soon, so stay tuned for those!

We canŽt wait for you guys to hear TIME I material and play it to you live! Have a great summer!

Jari & Wintersun boys

Great news, Jariboys.

Ah, making so much material for two albums. The age-old record industry problem.

But:

quote:

- We like the idea of releasing two albums within one year, so the band will stay more visible longer, which is important in these "modern times". No more years of silence for us!

How does this work? Wouldn't you get more publicity releasing albums spread out?

Pretty sure Arch Enemy is pretty tired hearing questions about having a :siren: FEMALE SINGER :siren: .

I love listening to Arch Enemy when I am anxious for some reason (such as before a job interview) and they calm my nerves a bit. I don't know why that is. As for questions, I am kind of curious what metal musicians listen to recently, what kind of hobbies they like to do outside of music, stuff I am sure are stock questions. If you want something fun or different, some topics might be that Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest which is not really metal but whatever, and that their lyrics and some of their official music videos (such as in Yesterday Is Dead And Gone) seem to be a theme about revolts/revolutions. I was wondering what they thought of the riots going on in the world today, such as the Arab Spring or the Quebec Student Strikes.

I don't know much about JOP but the only question I have would probably upset them and really only is for Jon Oliver. Basically I was wondering if in the last two recordings he has reworked songs that he made with his brother (who apparently died in 93 by a car accident) added an element to the band. Also the death of his guitarist, then the death of one of his heroes (Dio)...Just wow.

Also why do metal musicians die in car crashes all the time when they aren't the ones drinking?
