Frank Caskelot posted:If I understood correctly, they've actually relocated to Finland (I think the actual band consists of no more than 2 members, though I'm not sure if that is the case with the latest album). And they're planning to play live gigs. This (along with a lot of Finnish metal, it seems, i.e. Moonsorrow) captures kind of a eerie/out-of-this-world/supernatural affinity/very very distant type of music. Even their newer stuff, which isn't metal and this thread may not like, captures that essence. What I don't understand is they are Russian, lived in southern Russia (Челябинск), and moved to Finland. Are they like me? Or did they grow up with Finnish? Are their ancestors Karelian? That'll be a fascinating story.

Moonsorrow is my favorite album for 2011. Wolves in the Throne Room is tied for it I think, though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU6U-8LP1DY This new artist Juliet debuted her single today. I don't know, it seems okay but it sounds really slow, as if there's a lot of build-up and not enough riffs for a 0m58s song. Also it seems really mainstream. Already 19k likes from an up-can-coming metal artist? Really?

It's metal (kinda barely) with a fairly legitimate opera singer and compositions with really heavy swing-jazz influence with lots of cello and brass and stuff. I like them and they sometimes show up in the metal thread. I like this single.

In YOSPOS we are using this site to share music (called turntable.fm). So I thought the metal thread could come kick it and share their music. Just go to the Something Awful Metal room and sign in with twitter or facebook (it takes less time to make a throwaway twitter than it takes for you to bitch about it), queue up some lovely music, and get a live coder-jukebox. Lurkers and neckbeards welcome, but try not to get butthurt if your 'totally hilarious ska parody song' gets skipped. Stay Safe fucked around with this message at 17:00 on May 14, 2012 |

Pretty sure Arch Enemy is pretty tired hearing questions about having a FEMALE SINGER . I love listening to Arch Enemy when I am anxious for some reason (such as before a job interview) and they calm my nerves a bit. I don't know why that is. As for questions, I am kind of curious what metal musicians listen to recently, what kind of hobbies they like to do outside of music, stuff I am sure are stock questions. If you want something fun or different, some topics might be that Sweden won the Eurovision Song Contest which is not really metal but whatever, and that their lyrics and some of their official music videos (such as in Yesterday Is Dead And Gone) seem to be a theme about revolts/revolutions. I was wondering what they thought of the riots going on in the world today, such as the Arab Spring or the Quebec Student Strikes. I don't know much about JOP but the only question I have would probably upset them and really only is for Jon Oliver. Basically I was wondering if in the last two recordings he has reworked songs that he made with his brother (who apparently died in 93 by a car accident) added an element to the band. Also the death of his guitarist, then the death of one of his heroes (Dio)...Just wow. Also why do metal musicians die in car crashes all the time when they aren't the ones drinking?
