This is some really good stuff and I totally agree, especially in power metal, I want big riffy guitar work. You don't have to Malmsteen all over the place (though I'm personally all for that), but I want those loving riffs. And now to go back down the Japanese power metal rabbit hole.

Lovebites are a lot of fun, recently went on a bit of a japanese metal phase myself and this was my favourite thing to come out of it, especially if you love some slap bass in your progressive thrash

Deconstruction is such a good album, it's almost like a hip-hop album in the way it uses so many guest vocalists and I wish more metal albums did the same

Remember Probot? I was so excited to hear that as a teenager and was just kinda like "meh" once I heard it.

This popped up on my shuffle and I must admit, using machine gun samples during the main riff / double bass is really quite something.

Yeah I mean like Varg is a piece of poo poo but I feel like you kind of just have to detach the creator from the creation. I wouldn't buy anything from him now but when I was a kid, I just didn't know.

unless the music is literally saying something racist in your language, I can give a pass if it says something racist in another language and you just didn't know, or was otherwise ambiguous.

On a similar note, what about Mirrorthrone? They're a french melodic black? metal band. I've always wondered if "scream to express the hate of a race" was misanthropic, or classically racist (white=/=black). (fwiw, I personally adhere to there's 1 race and some people just have different colors and we're all cool, but I acknowledge that others call those races, even if I don't agree)

Another tangent: Gojira has some pro-earth lyrics which I enjoy, is there anything else that has similar "take care of earth" lyrics?

I didn't say "I don't see race", I said semantically, I don't agree with using the word race. But anyways, it's not a hill I'm willing to die on so I'll drop it.

Anyways, that's good about mirrorthrone then.

I've been getting back in to metal recently and went to listen to some Malevolent Creation because I remember enjoying it as a teenager (around '04), did a little digging now and jesus loving christ

At least they're all in a row. I don't mind the long tracks but the placement in Book of Souls is so awkward that you just kind of forget entire sections of the album by the time you get to the end, in this instance you can kind of treat it like two halves of an album.

This just reminded me of the guy that showed up to a small guitar forum I'm on, acted like a huge rear end in a top hat because nobody liked his lovely microtonal death metal, then made an I'm Leaving thread. Said thread included a SoundCloud link to a diss track about the other posters on that forum.

you gotta post the link come on
