So I made a thing for tour dates. http://www.metalplague.com/ I wouldn't just be plugging this in here if I didn't think it'd be useful with all the tours coming up. No bullshit, just tour dates. It's a wordpress theme, all the bands are catagories and all the locations are the tags, so you can just click on whatever and it'll show what's in that area. I had this page going for a while but it died, and all the talk about tour dates got me going again. I originally had it set up to publish to facebook, twitter, and tumblr, and I'll work on getting that back up and rolling. edit: hey cool, it looks like my automated publishing settings are still operating. mp on http://www.facebook.com/metalplague and https://twitter.com/666metalplague And any of you awesome goons who are way more in the know about tour stuff than I am, it'd be super if you could shoot any tour info my way at submit@metalplague.com Thanks for your time also publishing to http://metalplague.tumblr.com edit: grammar and added tumblr link Fiendish Dr. Wu fucked around with this message at 16:44 on Feb 11, 2012 |

With all the tour talk earlier, and after I started up my site, I've realized that - holy gently caress - there are way more metal tours coming up than I thought. Tours I don't think that were mentioned earlier: Devildriver, The Faceless, Dying Fetus, Job For A Cowboy, 3 Inches Of Blood, Impending Doom, Wretched Overkill, God Forbid, Diamond Plate, Suidakra Crowbar, Prong Deicide, Jungle Rot, Abigail Williams, Lecherous Nocturne Corrosion Of Conformity, Torche, Valient Thorr, A Storm Of Light and High On Fire, Darkest Hour, Nachtmystium, Intronaut, Black Tusk, Holy Grail, Monstro all at the South By South Death (SXSW) thing. All of which I put up on here http://metalplague.com/ (I know there are a lot more active metal goons on here who actually do interviews and know what's up all the time, so I hope I'm not stepping on anybody's toes by doing this site. I'm just trying to have one all-inclusive site for metal tour dates and nothing more.)

For some reason, Septic Flesh's cover of the "meow mix" theme (Communion) works well. Any recommendations? For this I found Pandora radio's Kataklysm Radio pretty good. It does throw some bullshit -core stuff in there but generally it's a good workout mix. Hunters is really good stuff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iMzbys1HAk Other workout music I get swole to: Skeletonwitch, Omnium Gatherum, Symphony X, Vader, Testament.

My favorite metal from nowhere was an older episode of Bones.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1248445/ posted:Skeletal remains used by a Norwegian Black Metal Band lead the team to explore the underground music scene. Gordon-Gordon prepares to retire from psychology, but not before meeting with Sweets and helping Bones and Booth solve their current case. Written by Jesse Sanchez While it wasn't a bad episode, it was pretty silly. Looks like someone heard about Mayhem, did a little reading on wiki, and thought it'd make for a good episode. It got a lot of things fairly accurate, but really blew some other things way out of proportion, even for a black metal fan. edit: grammar Fiendish Dr. Wu fucked around with this message at 14:59 on Mar 25, 2012 |

co199 posted:I agree. Marc's vocals fit in perfectly. I've followed DF since way back in the dark annals of MP3.com, when they were Dragonheart. They're one of my favorites and really are just a fun band. As much of a gimmick band as they may be, they do have an ear for songwriting and musicianship, which is one of the things I appreciate about them. Hell yeah mp3.com But yeah that's one thing I don't get at all - are they holding onto this gimmick thing for fear of losing fans? The fact is they are talented, and they do have songwriting ability. I wonder what would happen if they just said "alright let's stop being so gimmicky and just write quality power metal." I wonder if they actually would lose fans.

Could you imagine being the guy working when they came in for their Visa's. "I'm sorry but they won't be ready, you should have just come in last week and we could have them in time." "Putrid scum. This is not the first time the law has stood in our way trying to prevent us from doing our work, and just like all the previous times, it will lay broken and humiliated eventually. We will only be content when we are victorious!" "Uhhh, yeah. Sorry again I'd help if I could. Just come in a few days earlier next time." I'm sure it's something much more serious and discriminatory against the dark lord's work, but it's a funny scenario.

I just wanted to reply to the earlier Borknagar inquiry. I just finished listening to the album twice and it's really grown on me. They seem to have toned down the aggression somewhat and added some more of the traditional Borknagar styled clean singing, but it's done really well. Nature is definitely mentioned several times, and there's a song about cities or something (The Beauty of Dead Cities.. a little different but still pretty good.) Earthling is a little silly I thought with several mentions of existentialism and so on. Overal though I really enjoyed the album as a whole. (Oh, except for the Metallica cover, thought that was totally out of place.) So that's my (probably unhelpful) opinion.

nomapple posted:I know it's Opeth's choice as artists, but I do hope they bring some death metal back in. The perfect fusion of prog/death metal is why I loved them in the first place. There is nothing "wrong" with Heritage, but it is nowhere near as special as the rest of their catalogue. I think they did the softer stuff a lot better on Damnation anyway, man, I love that album! I think one of the things they did best was not only the fact they could play both styles extremely well, but their ability to transition between styles during songs. Going from a nice soft prog melody to an insanely heavy death riff gave the most dramatic effect. Without that, they're just another prog band.

last circle pit I was anywhere near was at a Cryptopsy show. The pit consisted of one huge, 6 1/2 ft, long haired, tattooed, drugged up looking scary monster of a man. Literally nobody went in.
