rxcowboy posted:Edit: I've never really gotten into Amon Amarth before, whats the best album to start with? With Oden On Our Side is by far their best album, after that you can then look at their older albums if you want rougher/harsher stuff (such as The Avenger), or their newer albums if you want more cleanly produced stuff (like Twilight of the Thunder God).

I'm really digging this track, even more than the previous one. I don't know how they keep managing to be simultaneously both heavy as gently caress and extremely catchy, while maintaining their signature sound without sounding stale or repetitive. Fiendish Dr. Wu posted:loving Blood Eagle, man Yeah Hel is a weird one. It's not a bad song per se but it's not a very good Amon Amarth song. Fortunately I think it's the only weak link on the album, Coming of the Tide is fairly average but everything else is solid as hell. Standouts for me are, as you say, Blood Eagle, Shape Shifter, and We Shall Destroy, while Warriors of the North is a suitably epic closer (8 minutes!).

Hulk Krogan posted:So I didn't realize that the SE of the new Amon Amarth comes with a 4-track "covers" EP. I put covers in quotes because they're actually original songs but done in the style of Priest, Sabbath, Motorhead, and AC/DC. It is indeed a pretty cool extra, makes a nice change from the usual making-of DVD or live footage. I'm 99% sure that it's not Johan on Satan Rising though, I think it could be Messiah Marcolin again. Here's the tracks in question: Burning Anvil of Steel Satan Rising Snake Eyes Stand Up to go Down Am I right in thinking it's ACDC, Sabbath, Motorhead, and Priest, in that order? Olibu posted:I thought there was some live recording where they did the play the whole thing, but I guess I was making it up in my mind. I really should get around to watching their DVD set that I bought. That would be the 2008 Bloodshed Over Bochum concerts, where they played their first 4 albums in their entirety on four consecutive nights. The audio from those gigs comes on each of the respective Reissues of those albums, and the video from all the gigs is on the DVD with the special edition of Surtur Rising.

Bloodshot Dawn have just launched their kickstarter for their second album. Their first album was absolutely killer, especially so for being entirely self-funded, check it out here if you haven't heard it, some of you might know them already because I first heard about them through this thread. New album is sounding great from the early demo stuff they're shown, so consider backing this for sure.

I really quite enjoy that one and Satan Rising to be honest, pretty catchy.
