Alright so you guys pretty much ruined the last thread with your terrible opinions. Then I honestly felt like I was in high school again because someone was actually loving talking about Machine Head. So basically I'm rebooting this thread because the other one was getting long anyways. What's going to happen here? You'll probably run it into the ground again.

So anyways I've been off in my own world and there hasn't been a whole lot of legitimate contenders for album of the year except maybe the new Sonne Adam or Necros Christos. Both of these bands put out stellar releases this year, and if you like actual death metal and not some clicky bass drum watered-downed technical pirate-metal jazz-infusion shitfest then check them out.

:siren: Oh yeah, and new rules: Gr31lly's and Mrbling's opinions are no longer considered opinions. They are authoritative declarations.

Ready.... set...... go!

fuckin hell brother you made this thread

anyway.. I love that sound of three little pigs by green jelly.. recs???

also whats its called when you consider that melody and thrash/death are mutually exclusive. like "melodic death metal" is like saying "angelic satan music", like, you can think you're creating it because you're mixing the sounds but the reality is those concepts are mutually exclusive and are the musical equivalent of pouring hot beef oil into a sink of cold water

You have no idea what melody is, do you?

kinda

like when I listen to kill em all, I can hear some melody.. but it's not terrible

and having some kind of basic rythmic chord changes are ok

but basically.. you need a mostly atonal sound and perhaps key changes.. but as soon as you've got actual chordal/melody.. you've entered this state where you are no longer death or thrash.. but some kind of sad deathcore rip off.. idk how to explain it to someone because if they fundamentally don't hear it maybe they never will

the riffs at 1:50 are getting close to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjqSdCp6bwc

idk what to say. we all have different standards. I don't really do moderation so.. wgaf

gently caress yes. The vocals ruin it.

The first time I heard it was on headphones on acid, I didn't know what it was, I recognised it as war pigs but I thought the acid had transformed it into a massive modern tone.

Honestly FNM has amazing tone on that song. The vocals bite (I love Patton but not on that song).

Can't believe I only really started getting in FNM this year. gently caress they own

Just reposting this here.

If Nile was just ordinary death metal they’d have the best sound, the vocals on their earlier stuff is the best death metal vocals and their heavy passages loving own. Shame they have these random technical passages in between all the loving time

I ordered some Seymour Duncan invader pickups after that video. His guitars are ugly as gently caress but that scalloping

i dunno none of nile's stuff is all that random. it's mostly going up and down a handful of "exotic" sounding scales really fast

I didn't mean random (even though I said it), I just mean like utterly unexpected, in a jarring way. I get it that it's their thing but it's not me.
