I dont recall seeing any discussion about the new Vader album that just came out. What do you guys think of it?

I thought it was fairly average overall, probably on level with Necropolis. There are some definite stand out tracks like "I Am Who Feasts Upon Your Soul", "Come and See my Sacrifice", and the rerecording of "Decapitated Saints" is way beyond sweet.

I've kinda been stuck listening to XXV for the last few months so maybe I'm just into their old songs at the moment.

I guess the songs are alright but whoever produced the album can go gently caress himself. They had a completely OTT production job on Litany that sort of fits the frenetic, turbocharged nature of the songs on that disc but this and the previous album sound like they were engineered by an impotent brain surgeon.

I never heard of this band before. They're in Russia, but they sing in Finnish.

Their newer albums aren't metal at all, but the early stuff isn't bad.

As a Finn this sounds absurd as poo poo considering our past relations with USSR. Then again the eastern bloc has produced great bands with the most dubious politics so eh, whatever

I'm guitars/recording/production. If you like it stay tuned. :)

Musically this sounds pretty good but the production is really off the mark unless youtube's audio processing majorly hosed things up. The low-end is incredibly muddy and the guitars sound over-compressed to the point where there's an audible "pumping" effect which renders some of the riffs unintelligible.

It's been at least… a few months since I last recommended Moonsorrow, so, er, Moonsorrow. The albums V: Hävitetty and Verisäkeet mix up black metal with folk, "heathen" (however you want to define that), and prog. Two of my favourite ever albums.

Still considering that Moonsorrow tattoo. Tell me it's a bad idea, people.

Tattoos in general aren't a great idea (I have two and don't particularly like them), ones with pop culture references are downright idiotic.

Moonsorrow is pop culture?

It's popular music which is a subset of popular culture. I hope you aren't suggesting it's high culture just because they superficially don't resemble a pop band.

edit: i realize that this is a fruitless and played out discussion, though, so I'll just say I enjoy Moonsorrow and other "low art" or whatever when it's done well, but also feel they're unremarkable in the grand scheme of things and getting a tattoo seems kinda silly.
