Poll 100 wrestling fans and see how many of them can name Lethal's world title vs which one JYD held without looking it up. If JYD gets more correct answers you can shoot me in the head.

Poll 100 random people and ask them what they think of when they think of wrestling and if more of them think of the prestigious Ring of Honor championship over Hulk Hogan and the Rock N Wresting era you can give me a noogie or something.

Well if the discussion was about black people and their history of starring in cartoons maybe you'd have a point

Objectively speaking Jay Lethal’s TV/First World title runs made for the greatest American wrestling storyline of the last 10 years.

i thought the point was about which guy is more well known. In any case that argument is for poo poo sniffers who purposefully sniff poo poo in my opinion

# ? Mar 21, 2019 17:16 |

I'm honestly not sure what the argument is anymore, it seemed to morph from "who counts as a Black World Champion" and then sort of meandered all over the place before I saw someone who appeared to be comparing the popularity/awareness of regional territories in the 1950s-1980s in smaller towns to the popularity/awareness of Ring of Honor in New York City in 2019 and that seemed absurd as hell to me but who knows, maybe people just want to make suicidal dares or call people pieces of poo poo, I'll bow out.

I think Akuma and Hellblazer made the real point which is no matter how many black champions we can remember it's never going to be a good enough number

If anything, The Rock just proves that a black man has to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time to win the WWE Championship.

ICHIBAHN posted:Surmise it please? Someone could probably do a much better write up than me but Lethal, with the help of Truth Martini, spent over a year having extremely good TV title defenses. He professed himself to be the “true” Ring Of Honor world champion. This prompted a feud with then-world champion and recent vocal homophobe Jay Briscoe to unify the titles, with Lethal winning in the end. He goes on to have even more amazing matches and promos as the world champion, including a MOTYC with AJ Styles at Final Battle. It’s not even funny how molecularly different the milquetoast Jay Lethal of today is from the Jay Lethal of ‘14-‘15, who by all rights was among the best in the world of the time.

The Lethal-Briscoe title vs title match was really really loving good and probably ROH's best match of the Sinclair era. The Jay Driller through the table on the outside looked like absolute loving murder

Like say what you will about Jay Briscoe as a person (and I certainly will!), that was a star making year for him as a singles guy and I wish he still was putting on matches and promos like that.

The Lethal /O’Reilly TV title match that went broadway was also a standout match. The ending where the audience was chanting for 5 more minutes, to Lethal refusing him, to Briscoe coming out and offering Kyle a world title match right then and there was so loving magical. If you couldn’t tell this is maybe my favorite era for any promotion.

I am sure Tony's porn stash (not his porn stache) is what bungled the sale of WCW "Well Eric, we really wanted to buy this company, but we found out one of your employees had some titty mags in his desk and that just doesn't align with where we envision this company going, so we're sorry."
