i like moral orel (like..is subjective, i appreciate its soul crushing properties) so someone told me to start goodnight punpun even though the only manga i've read is akira

i ordered the first volume off ebay for around cover and then learned that 2 and 7 are hard to get..figured id read the rest digital but, got a new LCS and they randomly had volume 2 in stock! found 7 online, the others aren't difficult or expensive to grab..no digital for this guy! wild they only had the hardest volume to find local to me this entire time

Not sure if you can return items where you are, but if you can I'd give the absolutes a go. The format is brilliant for Sandman.

New omnibus was just announced on the Near Mint Condition YouTube channel. What If..? vol 1 will be released in August 2021. It'll collect What If volume 1 #1-15 and #17-22. I think #16 is a Shang-Chi story and it can't be collected due to some rights issue with Fu Manchu?

DC is notorious for canceling their omnibuses as well. Some people I know don't even collect their omnibus if it requires more than one volume because it might get canceled. I'm not too sure which omnibus they're referring to through. I am pretty bummed that they canceled the Absolute version of The Art of Adam Hughes.

And then they only do one collection for the dozen or so people that did show up. They had volumes 2 and 3 up for a bit! I'm still annoyed.

Edit: It also wasn't out of nowhere, it came out at the same time he showed up in Batman and Robin: Eternal.

i have the absolutes of transmet vol 1 & 2 and swamp thing 1 & 2 so i'm basically trustfalling DC to reprint one and actually sell the other..it feels like every bit of dc makes an ok amount of money enough where as a whole at&t doesn't sell them

oh that reprint of transmet 1 sold out everywhere in a day so thats cool

i look at people that enjoyed all three volumes of knightfall like i do people that also enjoyed zero hour...i'm glad you folks got your collected editions, now i slowly back away from you.

i feel the same way about death/return though and i'm in the minority there...ok yeah the jurgens art is kinda iconic but the whole event was lame

Haven't read Knightfall, because every time I think I'm ready to grab it, DC announces a new, slightly more complete collection that's coming out real soon.

oh god, what could they add to make that storyline even bigger..there's good chunks where they just beat you over the head with things and you're like, ok, i get that you need to sell issues, but can we move this along

90s dc "shockers" were rough, this, death, emerald dawn..flashpoint was good but is that really in the same mold?

I got the first four JLI hardcovers, which they canceled and continued in softcover after that, so I got 5-6 in softcover, then they stopped releasing those, and now they're doing omni from the beginning again. I may grab whatever concludes the series if they ever finish releasing it.

Certain volumes are frequently reprinted without warning. Others never get reprinted.

Marvel is no better honestly. Some trades appear to have print runs of roughly 19 copies.

I guess I’m used to regular books that generally stay in print for at least a few years. It’s been rough for me to start getting into the epic collections and then discover that the next one I want to read came out two years ago and is $70 used. At least it looks like some are getting reprinted.

Speaking of out of print, I got a really good deal on Big drat Sin City and it arrived in the mail today. Holy cow this thing is big! I knew it was going to be really wide but I didn't know it was also library edition-sized. It's easily the heaviest omnibus I own now.

I believe reprints can keep the same ISBN so long as the contents and binding methods aren't changed. But yeah, Big drat Sin City has had two or three reprint runs now. I think I read somewhere that they said this was going to be the last one, but I could be mistaken.

I wish Dark Horse would just keep the book in print, but I guess that isn't feasible.

The only thing I can think of that is perpetual print is everything alan moore did under DC...I bought the tpb of league vol 2 and that's a 17th print....that's the worst part of trying to own things you like...meanwhile all the smart marvel fans are straight up like "don't pay over cover, its coming back at some point thanks to disney" on just about everything...i never thought i'd be able to get age of apoc at a reasonable price and now in 2021 i did...there must be some MCU xmen thing about to go down this year

i like the spine design on that one

and for the complaining we do, which is like most of the thread because again, they suck at collected editions across the board..printing expensive books in a pandemic seems like a minor miracle to me in the first place so, i get it..it's just the instant ebay flips of 4x the cover price that every other hobby has that kill me on the inside
