BG1 isn't balanced very well. At higher levels you have so many more tools (and HP) compared to level 1. It's not uncommon to have your whole party wiped when you first leave the candlekeep area due to getting a bandit random encouter.

In vanilla once you get level 3 spells (web+fireball) the game challenge is mostly over, if you get level 5 (cloudkill) it's even more over.

I'm pretty sure all the romances are going to be similar. There's a mod that adds these little "flourishes" to even the BG2 romances I think.

D.

This isn't 3e, you don't want an all cleric party in BG1. Maybe TOB but not BG1.

I've noticed that on my world map and area map that I don't have labels for anything. It won't give me town/area names and it also wont put markers on specific buildings while in town. It is a vanilla BG install with TUTU and the widescreen mod. Anyone else hear of this or know of a fix for it? It can make things confusing :(

If you want markers on buildings then there's a mod that does it. I have no idea what the name of it is.

I found out that not helping Drizzt has even more far-reaching implications than just not finding Dynaheir's journal. That variable, HelpDrizzt, is checked for pretty much all Drizzt-related mod content. He could help you do Durlag's Tower, he could help you kill Bodhi's lair, and he could help you in other situations that I'm not really familiar with. I need to be 100% sure that I did everything right so that future mod content will not be messed up, so I have to go back and reload from before meeting him and replay from there.

Also, its Thanksgiving week. This is taking longer than I anticipated.

That charming rogue kit is such BS. It's like a better swashbuckler with no downsides. Which mod is that from again? Is that from her romance mod?

How many thief levels does Imoen have in vanilla BG2 again?

The kit for Imoen is from NeverEnding Journey, which was originally meant to allow you to play through Icewind Dale (and, I think, IWD2?) through Baldur's Gate as well, and includes a few kits like the Charming Rogue. Is it powerful? Yes, but unless you're really good with them and their backstab (or have access to Improved Invisibility), thieves are pretty drat weak anyway. It's also meant to give Imoen a bit more abilities in line with her 'canon' self - aka, the fact that she's also a mage come BG2.

I don't see what the point of the kit is since it takes one of the vanilla kits and add more bonuses while removing the downsides. I also don't see what faster movement or increased ac/damage have to do with her canon personality. Thieves are completely broken thanks to ToB so why would you even need to buff them up any more?

For fun? Seriously, have you not been paying attention to the various kits and items and whatnot we've seen so far? How much of this has been "balanced" or make sense to any particular degree? I'm not the mod creator, so I couldn't tell you precisely what he (or she?) was thinking when they created the Charming Rogue kit. Why even worry about it, honestly?

I was originally just putting out there my opinion of the kit and asked where it was from. Why get so defensive about the kit or the fact that you find thieves weak, honestly?

Fruits of the sea posted:

Unless a mod changed things, thieves can only put one point in a proficiency.

She'll get -1 THAC0, better saves and a x4 backstab multiplier at level 9...

The kit lets her specialise in all thief proficiencies.

Ugh. Where's my faceplaming smilie when I need one? I thought we had one around here somewhere? And why do people always think that saying I'm being defensive about something will make me actually so?

You were being rather vehement about the kit, and I was confused as to why - particularly since no thief kit is gonna make them as powerful as mages in general can be. I do find thieves weak, but I'll freely admit that the one time I've played through ToB and gotten to the point of HLAs, I didn't have any people still raising thief classes - the only one I really used was Imoen, who was, of course, dual-classed mage as per BG2 standard (I was playing vanilla.)

Again, all I said was that the kit was "BS" because it took a stock kit and eliminated any and all downsides. You're projecting if you think I'm vehemently against the kit, in my first reply I reiterated my comment and responded to some specific comments you made. I didn't get into the other aspects of the kit before but you started defending the kit by calling thieves weak and stating that the powers were in line with how imoen is in 'canon'. You can say you're not defensive but you persist in trying to convince me that my opinion of this kit is wrong. Can we agree to drop this argument? I don't like this kit for my reasons and you don't like thieves for your reasons.

Also, only one or two spells in there - Animate Dead and maybe Vampiric Touch - do anything you can't get from other spells. I honestly think it's in the (quite even) top three along with enchantment and divination for 'schools that are easiest to do without'.

Skull trap is good for cheesing encounters if you know where dudes might spawn in though. Really good. I'll give it that.

I'm finding myself hoping that Shar-Teel gets gibbed, or permanently removed from consideration in some way, just so we won't have to go through this EVERY TIME. I mean, let's look at the top five vote-getters at this point in time. Four of them, combined, have received a total of 153 votes (145 positive and 8 negative). Then there's Shar-Teel, who has received a total of 165 votes (99 positive and 66 negative).

Oh, and if you add up the total votes for and against every party member but Shar-Teel? 312 votes in total (291 positive, 21 negative). Which means that Shar-Teel's 165 votes represent fully one-third of the total votes cast.

I'd love to see her removed from voting consideration somehow, so that other party members (like Finch, or Rose, or even Safana) might get more than a few votes, positive OR negative, thrown their way. It'd be nice if these "vote for the party members" debates determined more of the party composition than whether or not Shar-Teel is in the top five...

I think most of the +votes are simply because people keep giving her -votes and then whine about it.

Personal spell research. Same reason some spells have the name of the guy who made them attached to 'em. Convert to Spiderlady might be named Jonaleth's Spiderlady Transformation, but he never let copies of the spell spread around so it's pretty much unknown.

Polymorph Other/Polymorph Any Object would probably do the trick, too.

If this were tabletop, yeah, you could totally research your own spells, assuming DM approval. Most video games don't account for that, though. The early Elder Scrolls did, up to Morrowind, but the feature was sadly taken out in later installments.
Meh, before 3rd ed (or the strange 2.5e that BG2 uses) wizard, sorcerer, mage, etc were all interchangeable terms for magic-user.
Again, personal spell research. Nothing to say you couldn't research a spell that had a required material focus of "Be Jon Irenicus" to it. Selling a scroll of it would be kind of a waste, but hey at least nobody's going to use your own spell against you.

Unless, you know, they get creative with polymorphing, or a simulacrum, or a mirror of opposition or something.

Easy, suck out his soul with a soul sucking machine. Who knows we might even run into one in our journeys along the sword coast!
