I still think Team Ninja need to share the blame for the shitpile that Other M was rather than blaming every single thing bad about that game on Sakamoto.

I disagree, Team Ninja actually did as much as they could to salvage that shitheap. Sakamoto was responsible for the story, and he was the one that was adamant that they weren't going to use the nunchuck, even when Team Ninja asked for it. Sakamoto deserves every bit of hate he gets for that game.

So I started playing El Shaddai today, and it is the weirdest loving game. So I'm Enoch, a warrior of God (with a day job as a scribe) and I have to beat the gently caress out of 7 fallen angels to seal their souls to bring them back to heaven. Descending to earth takes place on a giant hand that falls down and crashes into the Earth. Coming with me to help out is Lucifer, who is snazzily dressed and chats with God on a cell phone.

Today, I believe. And from what I've heard, it's not so much that it's bad as they basically just upscaled the PS2 version and called it a day. A shame they didn't include Move support, because the Wii controls were amazing on it.

It's actually happened quite a few times. It released here in Fall 2009 (I'm pretty sure), and they guaranteed 6 months of server support, and then about a month before that day, they would usually extend it for another 6 months or so.

I will never, never understand people who say this.

I do. I played the PS2 version and thought it was an incredibly boring game with lovely controls. I'm not saying you can't enjoy it for what it is, but a game is first and foremost, well, a game. I don't care how realistic or "justified" it is, if it results in something that detracts from the play experience, then it's not good game design.

Has anyone else here been playing Elemental Monster? I bought it a couple weeks back off Japanese hype then just kind of forgot about it, so I loaded that sucker up and next thing I knew I'd lost 3 hours! It's amazing that Hudson sells this game for a dollar, and it may look really obtuse and arcane from gameplay footage but the single player does an incredible job teaching you how to play by gradually introducing new concepts.

I'll admit that the deal with the game's DLC is kinda weird. You can play the game as much as you want and get new cards for free, but you only win one card at random from a specific set for winning on/offline. On the other hand, you can shell out $5 for a "Booster Box" which is 24 randomly selected cards from a specific set. I'm playing through the single player now and doing okay, but I imagine if you want to complete sets or do heavy online play you'll need to start buying.

If you're like me and looking for a TCG experience but was disappointed by Eye of Judgement, give this a try. PlayStation Plus users will be getting a big push for this game starting today, where the game will be given away for free and all Booster Box DLC will be $2.50 a pop.

I've been playing it on and off between Dark Souls and Harmony of Despair, and it really is a fun little thing. I definitely agree that to go online I'm going to need to shell out for a booster or two, but for single-player I've just been going along and it's worked out so far. The booster DLC being half price is awesome, I'm going to have to grab one or two of them.

Honestly, that's probably for the better. Demons's Souls is frustrating as hell until you get with the program (and it will kick your teeth in until you do), but it's really rewarding, and the best way to play is to figure it out for yourself as you go. If you find you really need some help, then pop in the Demon's Souls thread and ask there.

Speaking of running down a path to get to the next really nice cutscene, I finally rented FF13 after beating around the bush for over a year (Would have bought it around its original release if reviews and word of mouth were better). I can already see the complaints about it being a series of linear paths, but the graphics and FMVs are absolutely gorgeous, and I'm curious to see what's going on in this crazy world. Are there any goons that actually like the game?

I liked it! Admittedly, Hope is a whiny bitch who I wanted to just tell to off himself after Chapter 5 or 6 (you'll put up with him because he's the best mage in the game), and the soundtrack isn't the best among Final Fantasy games, but it's loving gorgeous and the battle system is fun as hell.

Maybe I'm misremembering but didn't you just go back to the last waypoint when you died in Demon's Souls? That's really not THAT much different. It's been a while but I'd think I'd remember having to re-enter the stage every time I died in Demon's Souls, because that would have been awful.

You definitely only went back to the last waypoint. The only time you go back to the Nexus is when you choose to.

One thing I wished I had known was that you're meant to takes the levels in level order, not continuing the same level unless you're really up to it (So do 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, etc, not 1-1, 1-2, etc.) Other than that, there really is nothing to say, it's a game in which you're meant to discover as you go (and die). It's true there is no "real" co-op, but the game is designed around that. You're not supposed to go off with your buddy, you're "supposed" to be helping that poor guy who needs help with the boss of 2-2 because he can't do it on his own. It's definitely not everyone's thing, but it is something that everyone should at least try at some point, because you'll never play another game quite like it.

I keep hearing so many conflicting things about Dark Souls difficulty. A lot of people have told me that Dark Souls is actually much easier than Demon's Souls. That they toned down the difficulty to much.

I really need to just buy that game already.

I'm not particularly far in it, but it does feel like the overall difficulty was ratcheted down a little bit. I personally think that the stages themselves are a lot more dickish, but the bosses aren't quite as bad as Demon's Souls (I haven't met anyone that made me want to murder someone as hard as Flamelurker, for example). That said, people who are much further than I am say it's harder, so... :iiam:

E: A lot of this could be due to the fact that having played Demon's Souls, I knew what I was going to be getting into though.

I'm playing Festival of Blood, and holy poo poo, please tell me there's some sort of flight power like Shadow Swarm in Infamous 2. Once I got that and Vampire Sense I literally spent two hours just going around and collecting everything because it was that convenient, rather than a huge pain in the rear end. Also, I really like how they do the trophies. Rather than tell you "Eh, go do *some arbitrary thing* 10 times," it's "If you do this 5 times, you'll get a new/upgraded power, and if you do it 5 more times, we'll toss a trophy your way."

Wasn't the whole loading problem in Playstation CT a result of a poor English localization or something? Pretty sure I remember reading that the Japanese version never had that issue.

It was basically that the PSX version is an SNES emulator, and rather than use the perfectly fine US version of Chrono Trigger, they used the JP version with a translation patch, and the PSX wasn't capable of autopatching it and running the game at the same time. Or something like that, but that's the gist of it.

Would be pretty cool if you were playing as the girl, had a limited (but still very capable) moveset, and then there was also this big NPC guy that couldn't die. Like a reverse escort mission. Most of the game would be sneaking around, opening doors for the NPC, and occasionally avoiding enemies while they stream in and he kills them all. Then there'd be a boss battle where he's fighting against this thing, and you have to climb up to a vantage point and snipe its weak point.
Is there a game like that? I feel like I've played sequences like that and a lot of games have a "here's an all-powerful NPC, hang around it while it kills things" part, but for the whole game?
