This is the greatest gameplay mechanic I have ever heard of :aaa:

I need this game, like, right now. I've never had a PC capable of playing it but for $20 on my ps3? Hell yes.

Speaking of hilarious death, I'm FINALLY playing New Vegas, and it is awesome. I played Fallout 3 on my laptop which was way underpowered for it, leading to me playing through the whole thing at like 15 fps with crappy graphics. NV on the PS3 is very nice.

[yeah yeah I need to go buy a new PC and see it even prettier, but this works for me for now]

I will never get tired of headshotting people, and watching their head, complete with big grinning face, just kind of slide off their body and roll around.

Also it's pretty freaking hard, but I think that's because I'm being massively dumb about just rushing into situations guns blazing, running out of AP, and getting chewed up. I've been too dulled by modern FPS gameplay; I forgot how Fallout works.

New Vegas's randomness is awesome.

I had that quest "Booted" where you have to go free the captured Powder Gangers from the Legion. I went to do it, untied them both and as we were walking out, right after I got the XP reward for saving them... both of them plus one of the Legion guards got mauled to death by a pack of Nightstalkers.

^^ Yeah, speaking of moneys worth, I know I'd play a WHOLE lot more GT5 if I had a wheel [and yeah I might look into PC sims too]. I really do love GT5, but controlling it with a DS3 just doesn't feel right to me.

I was holding out from buying a DFGT just because my purist friends kept yelling at me to just save up for a G27, and besides that I REEEEEALLLLLLYYY want that clutch/shifter... but that's probably never going to happen, and I am sick of playing GT5 with a DS3. Drifting is hard as gently caress for me [or I should say, controlling a drift is], and just in general I know I'd be a lot better with some of the more challenging cars [like my roided-up Ferrari, can't remember which model, which likes to spin out if I look at it funny] if I had an actual wheel.

That reminds me I need to get around to playing the demo for Bloodrayne I got, I keep hearing good things.

I've been glued to Fallout: New Vegas the last week or so. It's... it's so... good. It's also loving hard but probably because I'm doing stuff wrong. I'm escorting Rex the Robodog to Jamestown or wherever for The King, and every loving PATH I TAKE is covered in those Cazadore assholes. I can't kill them fast enough, they sting him to death. :( Is there any way I can get like some kind of fast-travel escort to places? Or like the car in Fallout 2? Can you resurrect dead ["unconscious"] companions?

Aside from this, it's a fantastic game. I like it way, way more than Fallout 3, though I admit that's probably 75% due to the fact that I'm playing this at full frame rate [drat you laptop]. I was initially one of "those" guys who was nervous about Fallout making the jump to FPS-RPG, but this is just a really good game and a good Fallout game.

Speaking of being stealthy, I had to crack up at New Vegas.

I just wrapped up the quest where you have to find the evidence linking the Crimson Caravan and VanGraff families to the destruction of various caravans, Cass's quest. Part of that involved stealing documents from the VanGraff safe. In front of that safe is a door.

In front of the door were two heavily armed guards. One of them had the door in his field of vision.

I strapped on my StealthBoy, crouched and moved quietly up to the door, and picked it. The door opened, I slipped inside, and did my thing.

Now I don't know about you, but if I was standing there minding my business and a door just randomly popped open, especially one that's supposed to be highly secured, I think I'd start, you know, investigating. Plus, people in the Fallout universe are familiar with the idea of StealthBoys, the first thing I'd think of as that guard would be "Oh gently caress someone with a StealthBoy is trying to break in SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT"

[for those who haven't played, a StealthBoy makes you almost totally invisible, you just kind of look like "shimmering air" or something, like Predator-style]

... good lord. I actually like anime and this poo poo's just too much for me. Handsome young hero rebels against his own army to protect underage elf girl within like the first 10 minutes, and soon after comes the parade of scantily clad anime babes and dramatic ellipses, ie "Leonhardt...". It's a collection of pure distilled terrible anime tropes compiled into a PS3 game. It's reeeeeally cringe-worthy. The real pain in the rear end is the "no alarms" trophy because often you'll trip one without realizing it and kill your chances at the trophy. I didn't get that trophy until my third playthrough.

Edit: And you may as well play on Hard on your first playthrough. The only difference I noticed between difficulties is the amount of damage you deal/take. Since you'll be one-hit KOing most enemies anyway (if you play the sneaky way, like most people) the damage scaling makes no difference whatsoever, except for the bosses. Even then, if you get hit much you're probably dead anyway, no matter the difficulty. And the third boss can be one-shotted if you don't make a stupid decision about two hours before you get to him.

No alarms sounds like a nightmare. Does that mean no "suspicious", etc or just no red "oh gently caress oh gently caress" level alarms?

Speaking of bosses, I just got to the first one, and all I want to know - nothing specific - is this: if I kill him, like shoot him to death with bullets, does that disqualify me for the no-death trophy? Or do I need to find a sneaky way to deal with him? I was curious if bosses were exempt.

Also holy poo poo DopeFish! and all the references to Manderley are interesting, for sure...

I can't wait to see where this is going.

You weren't kidding. By god, you weren't kidding. DX:HR is... it's... it's really starting to be better than DX1. I never thought I'd say that, but here we are. It's that rare case when a sequel, far after the original, does alright!

Oh interesting, I'll have to keep that in mind. I really like the hacking minigame, so I've been hacking everything in sight, but generally skipping alarm panels.

Also uhhh someone give me some strategy about the first boss. Motherfucker's turning me into swiss cheese in seconds. I've tried hiding behind pillars but whenever he gets close and I run out to try to run down the room away from him, he hits me pretty hard. I've got an upgraded combat rifle I've been opening up on him when I can, but I can usually only get in like 4-5 shots before HE opens up on me, doing massive damage. drat it, I'm a hacker, not a fighter!

It occurs to me that this being Deus Ex, there's got to be an easier way. The only reason I ask is that I'm kind of tired of having to reload, open the door, skip cutscene, die, repeat.

One thing I like about this as opposed to other modern shooters is Adam isn't a bullet sponge. Yeah he heals himself eventually [which makes sense in this game, normally I hate that] but boy he can't take much damage in a firefight. I also really like the way his HUD freaks out when you die. That's a nice touch. :)
