On the final episode of startup, they talked about how the cost/effort to produce individual episodes for most of their shows was too high compared to the revenue they were bringing in. They said the ideal show, in terms of generating profit, is where it's just a couple personalities talking/hanging out (e.g. Joe Rogan or Pod Save America). Reply All was probably the closest show they had to that sort of format with a popular following. If you are interested in a low-stakes investigative podcast, you should check out underunderstood. The recent episode called Jeff Goldblum's Secret Tattoo is pretty good.
