This last episode is the first one I've ever listened to. I loving love it. What other episodes are as good as this that I should go back to? I'm already going to download the previous episode with him on it.

Seconding the Bill Burr, Bert Kreischer (first two), Bourdain, Mad Flavor (Joey Diaz) and Bas Rutten episodes.

Also any episode with Bryan Callen (Bryan and Joe sperg about animals, Bryan describes participating in an orgy), Charlie Murphy, the 'Not for tickling player' episode (I think that was Daryl Wright), Adam Carolla, Tim Ferriss and Mayhem Miller are worth listening to.

Since the episode quality varies widely we should have a 'best of' in the op or something.

Callen's podcast with Jay Mohr (on Callen's podcast Man Thoughts) was worth listening to.

Oh, and by the way, I enjoyed Callen more on Joe's older podcasts when he was telling stories about orgies, making out with ladyboys, getting blowjobs in bars, etc.

I think those are Callen's greatest hits though. Similar to Bert Kreischer fantastic earlier appearances.

When Ari interviewed Bert for his podcast it was just two dudes chilling in Bert's Man Cave. Sort of low key and not very engaging.

I think he was recently talking about David Cross as the person whom he considers the founder of alt comedy. He was talking to Greg Fitzsimmons about this and he talked about Cross going on stage not giving a gently caress and just stretching to a workout video and talking about how he was really feeling the burn. He contrasted Cross, whom he thinks was completely fearless about doing his own thing but in a very entertaining way, to Andy Kaufman who "just would do weird things that were not entertaining."

The example Joe used for Kaufman not being entertaining was Kaufman getting on stage for 20 minutes with a sleeping bag and just pretending to sleep. He said that may be awesome for the performer but there is nothing in it for the audience, and his main issue with this was the audience payed to come see you, thus you need to deliver.

At least I think it was Joe who had talked about this. I may be mixing comedian podcasters in my mind.

It's awesome that Dan and Rogan have become friends. Even Bryan has bonded with him because everyone is around the same age.

It's endearing and hilarious that Rogan has become so excited by history. The Amy Schumer episode is great because Rogan goes off on the Khans.

I seem to remember a story about Robin Williams being in the audience of a stand up who he was accused of stealing jokes from and Robin just opened up a checkbook, wrote a check and slapped it on stage; much to the amusement of the comics in the audience.

Maybe Rogan told that one?

TheVaultDweller posted:

I could understand his frustration because Damer was just saying things without being able to back any of it up with anything other than "well I'm an engineer, so I know"

Quite a few engineers are like this. I attribute it in part to personal insecurities of individuals attracted to the profession, but also the bias of the field they study. If an engineer wanted to understand why the equations he uses work (and the outlier situations in which those equations do not apply) then he would have studied more physics/math/chemistry from a academic perspective.

So most engineers go around thinking they know the equations by which all life works and they have very great difficulty grasping fields like biology which depends on empirical observations of a situation and then describing theories to explain those observations. To an engineer, the theories that they work with have already been established and there is no argument among the elite (ie them). Then you add to that ...let's call it "field arrogance" the fact that communication of technical information clearly can be hard, and it is doubly hard to communicate technical information to a layman, specifically when you haven't practiced and prepared a formal talk, so you get people saying "I'm an engineer, trust me."

It doesn't excuse the arrogance of course.

I can't wait to watch Bill Burr's animated show. It's is supposedly based on his family stories.

Last story he half got into on his podcast was about how his dad would keep pirannas and how at a young age he would make the kids gather around and show them how they ripped apart goldfish. The Lovely Nia (Bill's wife) commented "Oh that explains a lot."

Lmao you have the stupidest definition of libertarian, but alright.

Rogan is barely an anything, politically. His views are pretty vacuous since most of his concepts of anything are interpreted through a haze of weed. He's a stoner who likes out-there ideas; beyond that, I don't think Rogan really has a political affiliation. If it's libertarian to think that working hard and making something of yourself brings deserved success, then I'd say every successful person would be a libertarian by that logic. Besides that, he's best friends with Duncan Trussell, who is probably the closest thing to a hippie that regularly appears on the show.

Rogan, I would say, is kind of terminally thoughtful. People mock him all the time in this thread for it, but I think it's a great strength: he speaks his mind freely, but he's also willing to devote at least some thought to any idea presented to him. This means he'll equally consider ancient aliens and bigfoot as he will consider the Wolfpac conference or the historical impact of Ghengis Khan on Middle Eastern politics. Least, that's how I've always seen him. It's also how people seem to think Dan Carlin is a libertarian because he's...not a progressive liberal I guess? There's a whole spectrum of politics out there.

I actually agree with all this analysis. Particularly the observation that Rogan will evaluate all ideas, any ideas no matter how loving dumb they are, as equal and put time into "researching" them. He doesn't have a skeptic's filter.

Joe has quoted whatever marx brother several times, that he wouldn't want to be a member of a club/group that would accept him as a member. He answers the libertarian question with gavin, he's neither repub nor democrat (he thinks of them as sports teams), he floats in the middle, wanting protection for public lands, supporting gun rights, he's pro choice and wants to pay teachers more. Also he wants to give kids ham sandwiches for lunch every day.

Knowing Rogan if it would be possible he would make ham sandwiches for kids himself. And then slip a blunt into the brown paper bag because hey it makes school more interesting.
