Anime World Order Show # 105 – Trigun Is Older Than Many Current Anime Fans

We missed a month. Again. Getting time for recording is one thing. But editing? Now that's another story. In this episode we take a look at the feature film Trigun: Badlands Rumble, the long-delayed theatrical follow-up to one of the most popular Japanese animated series from the 1990s. Well...popular in the US and the rest of the world besides Japan, anyway!

Why Does It Exist? - Tanya's Island (1980)

This week we welcome our friend David Bertrand of Montreal's Blue Sunshine Psychotronic Film Centre for a mind-melting viewing of the tax-shelter erotic drama TANYA'S ISLAND, a would-be art film centered around a love triangle between a man, a woman and a giant yeti/Sasquatch/ape of some repute. If this isn't the strangest film we've covered thus far, it's certainly the one that contains the most sex scenes involving apes. Music by Alice & The Intellects

They have a good bit of local stuff, like calling and streaming the local MMA fights and the roller derby, and talk to the fighters and the girls. They stream every Thursday (except next Thursday, cause they are off on a cruise), let people call in. Also their take on the weird news of the day. Its definitely NSFW.

We release once a week, and soon we're expanding to a second podcast that will update about every other week.

We do a weekly podcast, and three times a week we post new articles to the website too. We have 7-8 rotating hosts (at least two of us are goons) and we talk about different pop culture topics. In previous topics we've talked about 2011 video games, our greatest pop culture guilty pleasures and moving to digital nerdery.
Sometimes we do interviews; I know a lot of tabletop RPG guys and we have them on the show to plug their latest projects.

Bill Lawrence tweeted our website once so you know we're legit.

We talk about the arrest and the strange week that George Zimmerman has had, we hear out Occupy Wall Streets argument for free media, AND we talk about John Derbyshire’s racist article ‘The Talk: Nonblack Version’. We also examine CISPA, a new video game featuring Dr. Ron Paul, and Maryland becomes the first state to say that your employer cannot ask for your login information for social networks.

Featured music on the show from Native Guns, State of the Artist, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Dyme Def.

Genre: Music
Released: Weekly, every Friday morning

"Every week on Drifts, we delve into the stranger side of electronic pop – the stuff that makes your ears tingle, your mind wander, and your heart race." I play weird electronic music - genres that go by the names 'chillwave', 'dreampop', 'shoegaze', and stuff like that. In short, if you're into chill electronic music, take a listen to my show. It also streams every Thursday on Goon-run station GhettoRadio.us at 11PM EST, if you'd like to listen to the show live.

Here's a little on the most recent episode:

"This show celebrates the international holiday it was released on. It’s a good one to put on while you’re chilling in the pool with friends. (It’s already pool weather here. I’m going crazy.)"

An hour of good, futuristic music. Check it out here.

Excited about The Avengers? Afraid it's going to be crap? Don't care, but love superheroes? Look no further than Marvel Month, where Alcohollywood reviews and creates drinking games for the five superhero movies of the characters soon to join forces in The Avengers!

This week on Alcohollywood, we finish up Marvel Month with Joe Johnston’s return to kitschy, pulpy World War II-era comic book adventure, Captain America: The First Avenger! One of the more uneven films in the Marvel cinematic universe, we follow scrawny Steve Rogers in his journey from a brave, but stupid scrawny guy to a brave, but stupid completely ripped guy, whose pecs apparently secrete a sheen of glistening oil. The film also stars Hugo Weaving doing his best Werner Herzog impression as The Mask, a perpetually tired-of-this-poo poo Tommy Lee Jones, and some guy with a huge moustache. The film’s got a great pedigree, and we do love alternate-history pulpy World War II movies, so what do we think of "Band of Brothers with Superheroes"? Check out our review and drinking game here, and let us know what you think in the comments below!

This week on Alcohollywood, we review The Avengers! Now, we went through Marvel Month so that you, our loyal followers, could be completely ready for this cinematic masterpiece. Unfortunately, it seems our airdate this week comes before the actual release date of the film in the United States, so we thought we’d just cover that OTHER Avengers movie – the 1998 abomination starring Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman as posh, droll British secret agents attempting to stop Sir Sean Connery from holding the British ecosystem for ransom (we think). A disastrous adaptation of the cult 1960s TV show, The Avengers features awful late-90s CGI, a confusing and nonsensical plot, bored, wooden acting, and the lamest excuse for “camp” we’ve ever seen. Put on your bowler hat, sip some tea (British people only drink tea, right? That’s all we got from this film) and climb in your man-sized hamster ball for our drinking game and review of The Avengers!

This week on Alcohollywood, we're sailing up the Moon River with the 1961 romantic comedy Breakfast at Tiffany's, starring Audrey Hepburn as the first Manic Pixie Dream Girl, Holly Golightly! Based on the Truman Capote novella, the film follows Paul Varjak (George Peppard, pre-making plans come together in The A-Team), an aspiring writer who falls for the sprightly woman-about-town (Hepburn) and has plenty of 1960s sex comedy antics doing so. The film includes such treats as 1) a horribly offensive Asian stereotype played by Mickey Rooney, 2) dime-store heists in animal masks, and 3) the world's least creatively-named cat.

It’s one of the Coen Brothers’ most well-known and tremendously popular movies; it’s spawned a convention series and a religion, and nearly everyone knows at least one line from this movie. This week on Alcohollywood, we’re covering The Big Lebowski, the dark comedy/neo-noir/Gulf War period piece that has more or less defined the careers of both the Coen Brothers and Jeff Bridges. The search for a replacement for his prized, pissed-on rug sends aging hippie Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski (Bridges) on a journey fraught with danger, ferrets, nihilists, bowling, and much more! We’ve got a lot to talk about here, so pour yourself either our signature drink or the White Russians the Dude is so fond of, and check out our review and drinking game here!

SPECIAL GUESTS: For this trip through SoCal in the early ’90s, we’re bringing along with us Matt K and Ry the Movie Guy from another great podcast in the Chicago area, CinemaJaw; also, look out for their next great episode, which they were gracious enough to have us on as guests!
