Breaking Mayberry is a comedy/criticism podcast where two guys (one of which is me) go back and watch every episode of the Andy Griffith Show to understand why its such a big deal. What made this show such a cultural touchstone, and why is it always brought up by conservatives as "the way things should be?" Along the way, we learn about the turbulent '60s, come up with fan theories, and explore the weird world of Mayberry. The comedy holds up - the lessons not so much.

Recent Favs:
Two Hillbillies of Verona : An episode where we both really liked the Andy Griffith show eps, where a man comes back from the dead and Andy fixes a family feud.

All The Crime You Can Eat: We bring on an actual lawyer to explain the history of the Supreme court and learn that all the horrifying abuses of police power we see in the show were actually mostly legal at the time. In this episode, a man goes to jail because Barney Fife feels bad about himself.

MANHUNT!: The first episode, which introduces the Andy Griffith concept, and also details one of the craziest and most ridiculous half-hours of TV we've ever witnessed.

Aww, thanks! History Honeys is one of my girlfriend and I's favorite shows, too. I'm really behind on Sex Archie because I'm really behind on Riverdale, but I will catch up on both soon.

New Episodes

Crazy Andy's House of Artillery!
First up, the glitz and glam of the movies arrives in little old Mayberry... in the most boring, monotonous way possible. Marty gets to share some classic and modern film trivia, and Dan tells us of the time Rob Schneider irritated his entire hometown. Next, would you like to buy a cannon? Andy and Barney find out that it's a little harder to get rid of a confederate monument than you might think. That is only a slight exaggeration of what happens here.

Your Moral Lessons Have Bankrupted the Floyd Family!

First, an irritated Aunt Bee drives the entire town to madness with one sentence and the men of Mayberry either save a man from suicide or drive him to it - we can't tell which. Second, Andy is picked to be the sole judge of a beauty contest and hey, maybe there's a reason that's never a thing that actually happens.

New Episodes

09: You're Lucky It's Columbus Day, Al Capone!
This time around, Breaking Mayberry covers S01Ep17 - "Alcohol and Old Lace," talking about Andy and Barney's crackdown on the controlled substances in Mayberry County, NC. We brought on freelance cannabis writer Russ Smith to talk about some parallels to today's most contentious Type-1 narcotic, and we get into the fallout of the war on drugs, the Federal v. State law debacle, and some extreme parts of class warfare.

Yes, this is still a podcast about The Andy Griffith Show, why do you ask?

10: This Is Not At All How The Stock Market Works

Another round of Mayberry goodness and this time we have a special guest - Joseph McCarthy! (No seriously, we talk about McCarthyism and blacklisting in this one, turns out the Andy Griffith show was not immune from it.)
First up, yet another episode about a stranger coming into town and getting under Andy's skin, but this one has like 30% more bluegrass - it's S01EP19 "Mayberry on Record"

Next, it's the fascist reign of Barney Fife we've all been wating for when Barney takes over as acting sheriff in S01EP20 - "Andy Saves Barney's Morale" and to be honest, this one is so dark in context that we end up kinda loving it.

A Yard Sprinkler of Rage - What We've Learned So Far
We're not actually recapping any AG episodes this time, but we thought it might be a good time at the halfway mark to unburden ourselves and talk through some of the things we've learned and observed on our journey so far. Join us as Dan introduces us to an unsung hero of the Red Scare, Marty introduces us to newspaper comic strips, and in general we make some half-thought-through ideas.

Brainwash a Child, Andy!

We're back on the recap track with episode 18 of Season 1, "Andy the Marriage Counselor." Dan and Marty needed an adult in the room for this one, so we got special help. Andy tries to help a feuding couple and he does it in the worst way possible, and we all lose our minds.

New Episodes
It's Christmas, Here's Two Dollars, Go Away.
Fellow goon and podcaster Joe Wade from the show Christmas Creeps joins us as we talk about S01EP11, "The Christmas Story", the only holiday episode in the entire Andy Griffith canon. For our Christmas in July episode, we talk about the surprising connection between Aunt Bee and Rage Against The Machine, and also yell about Mayberry's apparent holiday crime spree.

These People Are Adults!

In this episode, we learn that Barney Fife is incredibly easy to seduce - first by a gentleman conman in a real "Silence of the Lambs"-type scenario, and second by Andy's girlfriend in some romantic misunderstanding high-school teen scheme bullshit that I hated so, so, loving much.

New Episodes
15: A Rare Case of Terducken Polio
This podcast ep breaks Marty and Dan a little as they deal with AG episodes ranging from needlessly convoluted to unbelievably dull. First, in episode 23, "The New Doctor", Andy is jealous of a new young doctor in town that he thinks is trying to steal Ellie. In the studio, we stumble upon a piece of Queer Lit history and wonder how many Opies it would take to beat one Barney Fife in hand-to-hand combat. Next, our spirits are broken by "Andy and Opie, Housekeepers,"an episode we're not going to describe here because it sucks and is so insanely boring and we'd rather be talking about literally anything else oh god please help.

16: Andy Proves That He's Daddy
In this episode, both hosts are absolutely furious, but at different times. It's a real bad cop/also a bad cop situation. In Season 1, Episode 25, "A Plaque For Mayberry", the town of Mayberry ignores an alcoholic's obvious cries for help, and we find a Southern-ism that makes even less sense than usual.
Next, Season 1 Episode 26, "The Inspection," it finally looks like our' prayers will be answered and an authority figure will finally hold Andy Taylor accountable.... haha, no, this show's just gonna kiss his bumpkin rear end like it always does.

17: Swarmed By Horny Farmhands
Look, this Andy Griffith episode starts off boring and benign and then it turns into THE MOST SEXIST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN ON TV. HOLY poo poo.

New Episodes
18: Don't Trust that Information to a Drunken Child!
We're joined by writer/comedian Jordana Lipsitz for an episode we THOUGHT would be our "reefer madness" episode, but instead turns out to be a scientific miracle. Turns out the Andy Griffith crew has found the secret to easy childbirth - just don't have any women involved. We get some new theories on Barney's days in the war, do our best Spongebob impressions and debate the merits of menstruation tents.

19: Manhunt II: Fife or Death!

It's the long-awaited sequel to MANHUNT and Marty and Dan are absolutely thrilled. When an escaped criminal comes for Barney, it's a non-stop thrill ride of body-blocks and serious shocks or something like that. Look, this episode rules. Just listen.

Why Won't You Hire Me? is a podcast about the stories of job hunting and job searching - told by people who are actually doing it right now. Also covering topics regarding labor issues, employment relations, and other hiring and business issues.

Episodes

01: Do It For The Culture
The first episode of Why Won't You Hire Me kicks off with talking about what businesses really mean when they say they hire for "cultural fit" and why that can be a bad thing. Then, SF Bay Area Data Scientist Esme Gaisford joins to talk about the best ways to ask technical questions, looking for diversity when walking into an interview, and the kinds of questions she hates being asked.

02: Can I Get A Break For One Week?
This episode, I share a job interview story from an obvious scam, and am joined in studio by my oldest friend, Chris Cunningham. Chris is a composer-turned-event-planner in the Bay Area who recently left a position with NASA and is currently pursuing work in the Event Management/Event Sales field. Chris and I talk about the decision to leave a "cool" job, the obsession with jobs as value status, turning your hobby into a job, and the reasons to skip your high school reunion.

03: Pre-Post-Grad

It's a special back-to-school episode of Why Won't You Hire Me, as I'm is joined by PhD candidate Elizabeth de Marigny to talk about the complex world of academia. Elizabeth explains the complicated process of getting hired at a university, all the unknown hidden catches of applying, and the painstaking effort of 3-D printing replicas of ancient artifacts. All this, plus I talk about the evils of unpaid internships.

New Episodes
20: Rock 'N Roll Rosie From Raleigh
When Jim Lindsey, the famous guitar player from episode 2 of our podcast returns to Mayberry, Marty and Dan have a great realization: We absolutely hate Jim Lindsey. Also, the boys have to say good-bye to their true love, Elinor Donahue, as she leaves the Andy Griffith Show never to be mentioned again. Next, Marty and Dan take on Episode 32, "Bringing Up Opie", an episode so dull that I don't even have the energy to finish this.

21:This Move Invented John Turturro. (Season Finale)

It's the Season 1 Finale of Breaking Mayberry, and we're closing out with our first movie episode! Going back a few years before the AG Show premiered, we're taking on 1957's "A Face In The Crowd", starring Andy Griffith as a conman drifter named Lonesome Rhodes. It's the darker side of the Mayberry coin as Marty and Dan talk about the Hollywood blacklist, Andy's cult following, and the difference between ships and boats.

New Episodes
It's Season Two, Baby!
22: The Laws of Physics Will Not Allow You To Hurt Me!
Marty and Dan are back for Season 2, and we start with a very special episode about the dangers of bullying, and how Opie is impervious to pain.

In S02EP01 "Opie And The Bully", Opie is constantly losing his milk money to a slightly taller child, and Andy provides the best course of action: Lying to his son to put him in physical danger. Marty and Dan take on the Great British Baking Show and the evil likes of the American Milk lobbyists.

23:Barney's Secret Hole

Come on down to Barney's Secret Hole, a magical place special to Barney. Is it a hole that only Barney knows about, or is it a hole where Barney's secrets are kept? No one knows, I guess. That's why it's a secret hole.

Marty and Dan try to survive election night by plowing through episodes 2 and 3 of AG Season 2. First, in "Barney's Replacement", Barney resigns from the Mayberry PD, a move that may have had more impact if we hadn't seen him do it like 15 times already. Then, in "Andy and the Lady Speeder", a woman from Washington is accused of the crimes of being a woman and having an opinion Andy doesn't like. (And also speeding.)

24:You Backed The Wrong Horse! Sit and Spin!
Marty and Dan sat down again with their legal expert Ian Roberts to talk about historical financial contracts and the breakdown of the post-Civil war southern economy, all while Andy tries to keep a senile old man from being evicted.

Look, there's a lot going on in this episode, okay? It's Season 2, Episode 4, "Mayberry Goes Bankrupt!"

Episodes

04: I Can't Get The Experience Until I Have The Experience (with Maggie Douglas
On this episode of Why Won't You Hire Me, we're talking about leaving jobs - whether that's a 10-month process of finding a new position, or retiring from football in the middle of a game. Martin explains why he thinks Vontae Davis' halftime retirement was a good move, and then talks to Maggie Douglas about her longstanding search to leave her job. Maggie's a writer and editor in the Austin, TX area currently working Admissions at UT Austin. She comes by to talk with us about the struggle with gaining experience, looking for jobs while working, seeing university from the inside, and a little bit about the new Spider-Man PS4 game.

05: Check Your Employment Privilege (with Rachel Drane)
Things get a little sentimental as Martin revels in the post-Thanksgiving bliss to tell the world what he's thankful for. (Hint: It's you)

Then we sit down with Rachel Drane, host of the podcast Putting Out With Rachel, to talk about her article in Technic.Ly Philly begging for employers to have some empathy when dealing with applicants. We talk about the hazards of networking, the little-stated positive aspects of unemployment, and what happens when the person in charge of hiring you goes on vacation.

This poo poo is weird, folks. It's Season 2, Episode 5, "Barney on the Rebound!"

26:Rage Against the Gumball Machine

We meet the most crust-punk of all Andy Griffith characters in this episode, Mad Men is discussed at length, and Marty does a pretty solid Tom Waits impression. It's Season 2, Episode 6, "Opie's Hobo Friend."

27: So Very, Very, Bad At Crime
Okay, so about halfway through the discussion here, we realize that this episode is actually terrible and makes no sense and that's about it from there.

This week, Barney does a sexism, skeet gets shot, and Marty and Dan ponder the sexual escapades of Philadelphia's many Benjamin Franklin impersonators. It's Season 2, Episode 8, "The Perfect Female."

29:Doodles Moseys In

Allright, this is probably our most immature episode so far, but we had some steam to blow off, and this fruit was low-hanging. This episode is about an old woman who hooks up with travelling drifters, I don't know how else to break it to you, there it is though. Marty and Dan respond about as well as can be expected.

31: Go Speed Frasier, Go Speed Frasier, Go Speed Frasier, Gooooooo!
We're still doing Mayberry, don't worry, but this time around we brought in another show for comparison. Andy and Barney want to join a club, so do Frasier and Niles. Marty and Dan are also joining a club, whether Dan likes it or not.

It's AG S02EP10 - "The Clubmen", with bonus Frasier S02Ep18 - "The Club"

32: Four Shirts, No Belt

This episode explains why job interviews exist, as Barney gets offered a job as sheriff of a neighboring town, and Andy does his damnedest to keep his friend from having a fulfilling career. Marty and Dan stumble on some conspiracies, debate chicken depression, and decide how much Andy Griffith had to do with the Kennedy assassination.

New Episodes MEGA MEGA POST

Okay, so I only post a few eps at a time in here to avoid double-posting, but apparently that's not necessary. As a result, I'm way WAY behind on posting these, so here's a whole bunch of updates.

33: In The Pocket of Big Pickle
IT'S PICKLE TIME! Marty and Dan call in a fermentation expert (Amanda Feifer of http://phickle.com/) to talk pickles to us, as we take on AG Season 2, Episode 11 - The Pickle Story. Learn about the miracles of botulism, listen to us do pickle-chewing ASMR, and find out how Andy Griffith is a shill for the corporate pickling industry.

More importantly, buy Amanda's book!

Amanda's book, "Ferment Your Vegetables!": http://phickle.com/ferment-your-vegetables/

34: Where Else Are We Gonna Find a Pile of Old, Dirty Hay?

It's a double header as we take on some of the grossest and the dumbest episodes down the pike of Season 2. First, Opie may or may not have burned down a barn, and Dan doesn't know how farms work in S02EP14 - "Keeper of the Flame." Then, we get a special guest star in the next episode - a giant stupid rear end in a top hat who thinks women are property! hooray! It's "The Farmer Takes A Wife!" Season 2, baby!

35: The Mayor Dies In This One And Dan Does Not Take It Well

I mean, the main theme of this episode is pretty much in the title, but if you want to know more, Marty and Dan stumble upon a potential real-life murder-mystery conspiracy, we meet Dr. David Banner, and Barbara Eden gets Mayberry so horny that the mayor loving dies.

It's a double-header of Season 02 Episode 15 and 16 - "Bailey's Bad Boy" and "The Manicurist"

36: Grappling With Jeff Foxworthy

It's our mid-season decompression episode and we got a special guest who actually knows what they're talking about. Gabe Bullard from The Bitter Southerner joins us to talk bout the history of rural comedy and the lasting effects of the Corncob County era of TV. We're talking Hee Haw, King of the Hill, and the dogwhistle-racist origins of The Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Oh yeah, and there's some Andy Griffith talk in our Andy Griffith podcast.

Read Gabe Bullard's work at: https://www.gabebullard.com/

37: Static Is Stealing Your Rays You Need For Fishing!

It's an extremely frustrating and superstitious episode wherein Marty gets into an altercation with his mailman, Dan channels Alex Jones, and in Mayberry, Barney and Floyd drive a man to the brink of suicide but then make it all better with a free TV.

It's Season 2, Episode 17 "The Jinx"

Along the way, we learn about the turbulent '60s, come up with fan theories, and explore the weird world of Mayberry. The comedy holds up - the lessons not so much.

New Episodes MEGA MEGA POST PART 2

38: Your Mother Is A Chicken Thief!

Marty and Dan come across an episode which fits the basic threshold of decent writing, and it is an oasis for them. Dan meets some Luchadors, Marty has his mind blown by a dry cleaner, and Barney Fife actually does something kind of badass. It's Season 2, Episode 18 - "Jailbreak!"

39: No Gods, No Masters, No Choir Directors

The Mayberry boys are joined by internet legend Grant from Sex Archie, History Honeys, and Let's Play with Chip and Ironicus (known to this thread as General Ironicus) for yet another weirdly dark trek into Andy Griffith territory. Marty discovers some famous Mormons, Dan has a solid horror movie pitch, and Andy would rather disqualify the hard work of the town choir rather than have a slightly embarrassing conversation with his best friend.

It's Season 2, Episode 20 - "Barney and the Choir!"

Links to Grant's many, MANY, projects can be found here: https://twitter.com/Gen_Ironicus

40: The Bayous of Mayberry County

Marty and Dan continue to plow through Season 2 with a double-header which seeks to cost them their sanity. First, the Mayberry boys are bored to the point of screaming by "A Medal For Opie", the Andy Griffith Show's ode to good sportsmanship and bad writing. Second, Barney actually tries to have sympathy for a criminal, and the show laughs in his face at the idea of rehabilitation.

41: Aunt Bee's Human Rights Abuses

It's a pair of BARNBURNER episodes (but not literally, that was a few episodes ago) as Marty and Dan lose their absolute minds at the prospect of two good episodes in a row. The Andy Griffith show explores the lighter side of prison labor and Andy and Barney invent the concept of a pop-up shop in order to mess with a lovely old man.

It's Season 2, Episode 22 and 23 - "The Merchant of Mayberry" and "Aunt Bee The Warden!"

New Episodes
42: Best Western, Hotel Detective

We're back from an unexpectedly long break to "check in" to an Andy and Barney wacky caper. Marty and Dan stumble upon the dumbest pulp novel premise imaginable and refuse to let it go. Then, our attention spans wander during an absolute dog turd of an episode, the premise of which is "you know how some guys suck to be around? Well, let's be around them. Okay."

It's Season 2, Episodes 25 and 26 - "Andy and Barney in the Big City" and "Wedding Bells For Aunt Bee"

43: LIVE at the Philadelphia Podcast Festival

Marty and Dan are filmed before a live studio audience.

As Part of the Philadelphia Podcast Festival, the Mayberry boys break from tradition and take a walk through history as we cover the evolving concept of the TV Dad.

New Episodes
44: Engagement Party Strike Force

In this episode, we learn that it's possible to die of second-hand sexual frustration and that entrapment isn't real if you're not dressed as an old lady. Plus, Dan blows the opportunity of a lifetime and Marty is humiliated by a grown man dressed as an 80s cartoon character.

It's Season 2, Episodes 27 and 28 - "Three's a Crowd" and "The Bookie Barber"

45: The Legend of Saxophone Boy

Have you had all your shots? If not, Andy Griffith will literally hold you down in prison until you're inoculated. That's the lesson we learned when digital strategist and public health planner Briana Morgan stops by the Mayberry Studios to talk with us about The Punisher, saxophone attacks, and inappropriate face-touching.

Be sure to stick around after the closing music for Episode 2 of our Audio Play "Barney's Day Out" starring Erotic Don Knotts!

How Are Ya Now? A Letterkenny Podcast - A Fuss At The Golf Course

Marty and Dan stop by another podcast to talk about a show that's still on the air, that they actually like. It's amazing, I know. We chat about our favorite episode of Canada's hit hick sit-com Letterkenny. Yes, this is the one with the Canada Gooses.

New Episodes
46: The Volcano Shot My Wife

Marty and Dan build a pretty airtight case for the impeachment of Sheriff Andy Taylor, but the show proceeds to Pelosi the hell out of our report. Marty watches some goats, Dan gets acting notes, and Barney Fife quotes Nabokov. Stick around to the end for Episode 3 of "Barney's Day Out" starring Erotic Don Knotts.

It's Season 2, Episode 29, "Andy on Trial"

47: Hello, My Name Is Libbels

"Hey Barney! It's your cousin Virgil! Virgil Fife?! You know that uncomfortably horny Tweety Bird vibe you've been looking for? Well, listen to this!"

Marty and Dan made it to the end of Season 2, and it ends on a pair of wet farts that drive us nuts. Listen, normally I'm all funny in the descriptions here, but these seasons are so long, and I'm tired.

Stay tuned after the credits for the conclusion of Barney's Day Out, featuring Grant of Sex Archie and History Honeys.

It's Season 2, Episodes 30 & 31 "Cousin Virgil" and "Deputy Otis"

48: Hey, I'm Gary Busey, The Fish! Season Finale

There once was a sad man named Limpet
His goldfish - he wanted to pimp it
And then he got his wish
To have sex with a fish
Finally using his weak little shrimp bits.

There once was an actor named Knotts.
For fishes, he did have the hots.
"gently caress you, Andy" he said
"I'll make movies instead"
So he made this dumb garbage that rots.

This movie has a guy who's named Stickle.
Which everyone mistakes for "Pickle."
The writers thought "This is funny"
"This is somehow worth money!"
Yeah man, you're like Don loving Rickles.

There were two co-hosts, Dan and Marty
Who wanted a season-end party.
But instead they got this
"It's A Man! It's A Fish!"
So the season ends on a wet fart-y.

Bottle Episodes 4: Astronauts Ain't poo poo

"Saddest Case of Celibacy In The West" podcast host Stephanie Neuerburg joins us for a rip-roaring cowboy adventure, as we take on an episode where Jeannie teleports Tony into the old west, or possibly a Westworld-style simulation? We'll debate this and also reference the first episode of Deadwood like five times.

57: CSI: Mayberry

It's time to solve a crime! No, not with careful investigations or evidence or anything like that. No, we're solving crime the old-fashioned way - with Andy Griffith's hunch! Plus, Marty finds a new button to press.

It's Season 3, Episode 5 - The Cow Thief

58: The Break-Up Odyssey

We're not always picking on Boomer TV. In this episode, we take on Andy Griffith Show, Season 3, Episode 6 - "Barney Mends a Broken Heart" BUT ALSO we talk about How I Met Your Mother, Season 3, Episode 1 - "Wait For It"

Along the way, we've got stories of finding coke, some of the best one-scene characters ever, and a brief interlude to yell about 2014's "The Judge" starring Robert Downey, Jr.

59: Floyd's Soda Fetish

Boy, it really took no time at all for quarantine to break the Mayberry boys. We spend a lot of time in this episode talking about western movies and why Floyd shouldn't be allowed in public. Andy and Barney both roll to bluff, Marty reveals intimate knowledge of Canada's finest dad-rock bands, and Dan is uncomfortable.

NEW EPISODES

60: Okay, Daddy, I'll Just Read Your Lips

Dan falls in love with a trumpet player, we find a band-leader from another dimension, and we'll take you on a tour of Philly's most artistic penis graffiti. All that, plus we'll talk about an Andy Griffith Show episode! It's Season 3, Episode 8 "The Mayberry Band!"

61: Floyd, The Gay Deciever

Okay, but like, that's the actual name of the Andy Griffith episode, we straight-up could not come up with anything funnier than that. The title makes no sense whatsoever, and neither does the episode. poo poo does get weird in this one though.

It's Season 3, Episode 7 - Floyd, The Gay Deciever!

62: Call Me By Al's Name

It's time for a WOMANHUNT as Marty and Dan meet three escaped convicts from the women's prison - and boy does the Andy Griffith Show think that's hilarious. We're talking murderous millionaires, the ins and outs of eating a banana, and long-distance gay love stories between public transit fans.

It's Season 3, Episode 11 "Convicts At Large!"

63: Glenn Ford and the Sticky Boy

In this episode, we learn what a bed jacket is, and how Aunt Bee makes it weird and sexual. We also meet the grossest sticky boy and yell about people who were not in movies. All that, plus a rare episode where Marty and Dan are 100% on Barney Fife's side.

It's Season 3, Episode 12 "The Bed Jacket", and Episode 13, "The Bank Job"

63: Glenn Ford and the Sticky Boy

In this episode, we learn what a bed jacket is, and how Aunt Bee makes it weird and sexual. We also meet the grossest sticky boy and yell about people who were not in movies. All that, plus a rare episode where Marty and Dan are 100% on Barney Fife's side.

64: Getting Dietary Fiber Through Illicit Means

We begin today's episode by pondering the moral conundrums left by Young MC in 1989's "Bust A Move" and end it by watching life turn a lonely child into a super villain. This episode goes some places.

It's Season 3, Episode 14 "One Punch Opie" and Episode 15 "Barney and the Governor"

65: Tim Conway, Donkey Fighter

Okay, quick note, for the first like 45 minutes of this episode, we sort of forget that horses, donkeys, and mules are different animals, just go with it.

It's our mid-season break episode and we're exploring the films of Don Knotts some more! It's time to watch the Apple Dumpling Gang, Gus, and The Love God?!

Or, actually, don't. Don't watch any of those things, they're bad. Listen to us instead.

66: The Rough One

The Andy Griffith Show is a show about cops, and that means Breaking Mayberry is a show about a show about cops, and that means Marty and Dan have to answer a lot of hard questions.

After deliberating on this for about 20 minutes and probably still getting it wrong, we move on to an episode of the Andy Griffith Show that AG fans love, and leaves us a sweaty, tearful mess.

It's Season 3, Episode 16 "Man In A Hurry"

67: Okay, Mayor, You Shoot The Goat (w/ Darryl Charles)

The boys get a visit from stand-up comedian, improv guy, and host of DTF With Darryl and Timaree Darryl Charles (http://www.darrylcharlescomedy.com/) to talk about goats, goats, and more goats. Well, really, one specific goat - a goat that might explode.

Marty, Dan, and Darryl talk about the decline of goats in America, their weird little square pupils, famous goats.... really this is a goat-heavy episode, I don't know what to tell you.

68: Breaking Mayberry Sells Out

Listen, we've been doing this for two years now, it's absolute madness that we haven't had Blue Apron call us up yet, and we're doing an episode about it!

Look, these Andy Griffith episodes are good, they're even GREAT, which means, of course, that we go out of our way to avoid talking about them.

Watch Marty and Dan try to bully their way into a sponsorship deal, with Season 3, episodes 19 and 20, "The Reunion" and "Rafe Hollister Sings"

69: Unionize the Children (w/ Mickey Schneider-Hanna)

It's a Schneider family affair as Marty's sister Mickey joins us to talk about a good ol' Andy Griffith parenting episode. We're discussing allowances, Jerry Seinfeld's teenage girlfriend, and elementary school "horse girls." Plus, hey - don't hit kids. Come on.

It's Season 3, Episode something - "Opie and the Spoiled Kid"

Eating Onions, Very Erotic

If this was the first and only episode of Breaking Mayberry you ever listened to, you'd probably think "wow, those guys sure use the word 'horny' a lot" - and you'd be correct.

Marty and Dan continue to struggle with Gomer Pyle, Aunt Bee is hot for a racist, and the Mayberry PD does nothing to solve a crime in Season 3, Episodes 22 and 24 - "The Great Filling Station Robbery" and "Aunt Bee's Medicine Man"

105: An Extremely Solved Murder (Season Finale)

It's the Season Finale and we're going back to the seemingly endless well of Andy Griffith TV Movies where he plays an unrepentant psychopath!

This time around it's Murder in Coweta County, a tense game of cat-and-mouse between Andy Griffith and Johnny Cash, only it's really more like cat-and-guy-getting-his-absolute-poo poo-wrecked-by-Johnny-Cash-the-whole-movie.

We're a true crime podcast now! Only about this one very solved muder, though! And mostly only about the mostly-bad movie they made about that murder. But still, true crime! That should get you to listen, right?!

NEW EPISODES

In the break between seasons, Breaking Mayberry tried not one, but two new miniseries wehre we talked about non-Andy Griffith TV

Parental Control is a series where special guests come on to talk about TV they associate with their parents - TV shows you remember your parents loving when you were a kid.

Parental Control 1: Stomach Parasite Elliot Gould (w/ Annie Ludwig)

We talk about the ultimate Dad sci-fi - Stargate SG-1. We debate the hotness of James Spader, analyze Marty's Tweeting style, and ponder how it's possible to travel to infinite universes when you have the brain capacity of a small fish.

PARENTAL CONTROL 2: Big Valley Energy (w/ Adam Teterus)

Adam's back to tell us about a show his Dad loves and his mom hates - 60's Western THE BIG VALLEY.

Join us for the definitive ranking of stuff guys can fall through, an in-depth discussion of Man vs. Beast, stories of basketball legend Charles Barkley, and a foxy older lady in a wildly anachronistic leather jacket.

PARENTAL CONTROL: Strong Opinions About Murphy Beds (w/ Kae Lani Palmisano)

Friend of the show and Emmy-award winning TV host Kae Lani Palmisano stops in the throw Marty and Dan into the world of reality TV with her parental control pick - TLC decoration program Trading Spaces!

Learn all about the inner lives of interior decorators as we do a deep dive into the history of TLC, reality TV, and some of the most unhinged TV we've ever seen. Get your decoupage ready because it's DIY time on Breaking Mayberry.

PARENTAL CONTROL: You're the Bears' Problem Now! (w/ Mickey Schneider)

It's the final PARENTAL CONTROL and we brought back Marty's sister Mickey to talk about the TV show which inspired her name - Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.

We cover two episodes of the family-themed Western show. Marty gets mad at the past (like always), Mickey has conflicting feelings about her namesake, and Dan introduces us to a man with a "striking" history.

We also did another miniseries called BACKDOOR LOVERS where we explore TV episodes which were thinly-veiled attempts at kickstarting a spinoff series, all of which failed horribly.

BACKDOOR LOVERS: A Surprisingly Supportive Mob Boss

We explore the Charlie's Angels episode TONI'S BOYS, an attempt at setting up a "Charlie's Angels but with boys!" show that no one could possibly have wanted. Thrill as a man struggles to understand what a strip club is, cheer at an emotionally available Mafioso, and be amazed at what a boy can do with a horse and a rope.

BACKDOOR LOVERS: Paranormal Creatures Networking Event
Our trip through TV Shows that never were continues, as we briefly step into the seedy criminal monster mash of SUPERNATURAL: BLOODLINES, a proposed spinoff of the CW hit that launched a million gross fanfics.

Using the very original idea of a turf war between monsters, Bloodlines imagines a Chicago where rich shapeshifters feud with handsome werewolves, and also a Chicago where Sam and Dean Wichester just sorta... stop in for lunch.

BACKDOOR LOVERS: The Incredible Mr. Fix-It

Our exploration of failed spinoffs continues as we look into a Golden Girls spinoff that actually did make it to the air... kind of!

Also Full house is involved and Hollywood legend Rita Moreno is deeply disrespected.

BACKDOOR LOVERS: Basic Training at Fort Sandals

Okay look let me tell you up front: This episode spends a LOT of time talking about Marty's scrotum. And then it spends even more time talking about the Dukes of Hazzard. You can decide which is more unpleasant.

It's the Duke boys and their new friend Mason Dixon, P.I. No... no that can't be right. They seriously named the guy "Mason Dixon?" Okay that's not a good start.
