All The Crime You Can Eat: We bring on an actual lawyer to explain the history of the Supreme court and learn that all the horrifying abuses of police power we see in the show were actually mostly legal at the time. In this episode, a man goes to jail because Barney Fife feels bad about himself. MANHUNT!: The first episode, which introduces the Andy Griffith concept, and also details one of the craziest and most ridiculous half-hours of TV we've ever witnessed. Second, Andy is picked to be the sole judge of a beauty contest and hey, maybe there's a reason that's never a thing that actually happens.

First, in episode 23, "The New Doctor", Andy is jealous of a new young doctor in town that he thinks is trying to steal Ellie. In the studio, we stumble upon a piece of Queer Lit history and wonder how many Opies it would take to beat one Barney Fife in hand-to-hand combat. Next, our spirits are broken by "Andy and Opie, Housekeepers,"an episode we're not going to describe here because it sucks and is so insanely boring and we'd rather be talking about literally anything else oh god please help. 16: Andy Proves That He's Daddy In this episode, both hosts are absolutely furious, but at different times. It's a real bad cop/also a bad cop situation. In Season 1, Episode 25, "A Plaque For Mayberry", the town of Mayberry ignores an alcoholic's obvious cries for help, and we find a Southern-ism that makes even less sense than usual. Next, Season 1 Episode 26, "The Inspection," it finally looks like our' prayers will be answered and an authority figure will finally hold Andy Taylor accountable.... haha, no, this show's just gonna kiss his bumpkin rear end like it always does. 17: Swarmed By Horny Farmhands Look, this Andy Griffith episode starts off boring and benign and then it turns into THE MOST SEXIST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN ON TV. HOLY poo poo.

The Andy Griffith show explores the lighter side of prison labor and Andy and Barney invent the concept of a pop-up shop in order to mess with a lovely old man. We're talking murderous millionaires, the ins and outs of eating a banana, and long-distance gay love stories between public transit fans. It's Season 3, Episode 11 "Convicts At Large!" 63: Glenn Ford and the Sticky Boy In this episode, we learn what a bed jacket is, and how Aunt Bee makes it weird and sexual. We also meet the grossest sticky boy and yell about people who were not in movies. All that, plus a rare episode where Marty and Dan are 100% on Barney Fife's side. It's Season 3, Episode 12 "The Bed Jacket", and Episode 13, "The Bank Job" 63: Glenn Ford and the Sticky Boy  In this episode, we learn what a bed jacket is, and how Aunt Bee makes it weird and sexual. We also meet the grossest sticky boy and yell about people who were not in movies. All that, plus a rare episode where Marty and Dan are 100% on Barney Fife's side. 64: Getting Dietary Fiber Through Illicit Means  We begin today's episode by pondering the moral conundrums left by Young MC in 1989's "Bust A Move" and end it by watching life turn a lonely child into a super villain. This episode goes some places. It's Season 3, Episode 14 "One Punch Opie" and Episode 15 "Barney and the Governor" 65: Tim Conway, Donkey Fighter  Okay, quick note, for the first like 45 minutes of this episode, we sort of forget that horses, donkeys, and mules are different animals, just go with it. It's our mid-season break episode and we're exploring the films of Don Knotts some more! It's time to watch the Apple Dumpling Gang, Gus, and The Love God?! Or, actually, don't. Don't watch any of those things, they're bad. Listen to us instead. 66: The Rough One The Andy Griffith Show is a show about cops, and that means Breaking Mayberry is a show about a show about cops, and that means Marty and Dan have to answer a lot of hard questions. After deliberating on this for about 20 minutes and probably still getting it wrong, we move on to an episode of the Andy Griffith Show that AG fans love, and leaves us a sweaty, tearful mess. It's Season 3, Episode 16 "Man In A Hurry" 67: Okay, Mayor, You Shoot The Goat (w/ Darryl Charles) The boys get a visit from stand-up comedian, improv guy, and host of DTF With Darryl and Timaree Darryl Charles (http://www.darrylcharlescomedy.com/) to talk about goats, goats, and more goats. Well, really, one specific goat - a goat that might explode. Marty, Dan, and Darryl talk about the decline of goats in America, their weird little square pupils, famous goats.... really this is a goat-heavy episode, I don't know what to tell you. 68: Breaking Mayberry Sells Out  Listen, we've been doing this for two years now, it's absolute madness that we haven't had Blue Apron call us up yet, and we're doing an episode about it! Look, these Andy Griffith episodes are good, they're even GREAT, which means, of course, that we go out of our way to avoid talking about them. Watch Marty and Dan try to bully their way into a sponsorship deal, with Season 3, episodes 19 and 20, "The Reunion" and "Rafe Hollister Sings" 69: Unionize the Children (w/ Mickey Schneider-Hanna) It's a Schneider family affair as Marty's sister Mickey joins us to talk about a good ol' Andy Griffith parenting episode. Okay so it's been literally 35 episodes since the last time I posted Breaking Mayberry in the thread so I'm just gonna post the latest one. What made this show such a cultural touchstone, and why is it always brought up by conservatives as "the way things should be?" Along the way, we learn about the turbulent '60s, come up with fan theories, and explore the weird world of Mayberry. The comedy holds up - the lessons not so much. Two idiots and their much more intelligent guests take on classic TV (mostly the Andy Griffith Show) to see the weird messages they broadcast into American homes, and assess what holds up and what caused permanent damage to the psyche of an entire generation. Join hosts Marty Schneider and Dan Ludwig as they descend into the madness of Boomer television, and occasionally break down their own childhood television addictions. NEW EPISODES 105: An Extremely Solved Murder (Season Finale)  It's the Season Finale and we're going back to the seemingly endless well of Andy Griffith TV Movies where he plays an unrepentant psychopath! This time around it's Murder in Coweta County, a tense game of cat-and-mouse between Andy Griffith and Johnny Cash, only it's really more like cat-and-guy-getting-his-absolute-poo poo-wrecked-by-Johnny-Cash-the-whole-movie. We're a true crime podcast now! Only about this one very solved muder, though! And mostly only about the mostly-bad movie they made about that murder. But still, true crime! That should get you to listen, right?!

(w/ Mickey Schneider)  It's the final PARENTAL CONTROL and we brought back Marty's sister Mickey to talk about the TV show which inspired her name - Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. We cover two episodes of the family-themed Western show. Marty gets mad at the past (like always), Mickey has conflicting feelings about her namesake, and Dan introduces us to a man with a "striking" history. We also did another miniseries called BACKDOOR LOVERS where we explore TV episodes which were thinly-veiled attempts at kickstarting a spinoff series, all of which failed horribly. BACKDOOR LOVERS: A Surprisingly Supportive Mob Boss  We explore the Charlie's Angels episode TONI'S BOYS, an attempt at setting up a "Charlie's Angels but with boys!" show that no one could possibly have wanted. Thrill as a man struggles to understand what a strip club is, cheer at an emotionally available Mafioso, and be amazed at what a boy can do with a horse and a rope. BACKDOOR LOVERS: Paranormal Creatures Networking Event Our trip through TV Shows that never were continues, as we briefly step into the seedy criminal monster mash of SUPERNATURAL: BLOODLINES, a proposed spinoff of the CW hit that launched a million gross fanfics. Using the very original idea of a turf war between monsters, Bloodlines imagines a Chicago where rich shapeshifters feud with handsome werewolves, and also a Chicago where Sam and Dean Wichester just sorta... stop in for lunch. BACKDOOR LOVERS: The Incredible Mr. Fix-It  Our exploration of failed spinoffs continues as we look into a Golden Girls spinoff that actually did make it to the air... kind of! Behold the shockingly mean sitcom EMPTY NEST, which is sort of a spinoff of Golden Girls but not really because THAT pilot was totally different and also sucked, but in a totally different way than how this show sucks. Also Full house is involved and Hollywood legend Rita Moreno is deeply disrespected. BACKDOOR LOVERS: Basic Training at Fort Sandals  Okay look let me tell you up front: This episode spends a LOT of time talking about Marty's scrotum. And then it spends even more time talking about the Dukes of Hazzard. You can decide which is more unpleasant. It's the Duke boys and their new friend Mason Dixon, P.I. No... no that can't be right. They seriously named the guy "Mason Dixon?" Okay that's not a good start.
