Charisma is generally useless in FNV, which makes it bad. I like all the other ones, though.

Dead Money is great and an excellent departure from the "normal" New Vegas gameplay. Instead of Push VATS Button, it becomes a cool puzzle-ish experience, pushes the Gamebryo engine with the level design, and has some generally cool companions.

That said it is pretty tedious, I would have made the collars work slightly different but that is my only complaint.

The next fallout game should just be a big empty room with a few monsters and the end game at the opposite end of the room.

With how impractical it is to haul every single gold bar out of DM and how hard it is to spend it all in the first place (combined with the wealth and resources you get from the mod anyway thanks to the unique stuff and the bunker vending machine), trying to trick or mod the game into letting you steal everything feels like an intentional attempt to shove middle fingers in Obsidian's face.

Fallout 1 and 2 are seriously two of the best games ever, you should play both.

Fixit for fallout 1 - http://www.nma-fallout.com/showthread.php?194562 basically lets you play in windowed mode and all kinds of other good stuff (fixes, etc) and can be used as a "unofficial patch". Also has optional fan content that I avoid wholeheartedly.

Also found this android app but haven't had the chance to use it yet - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eltechs.erpg&hl=en

Fallout 2 I'm using this mod to do the same thing for 1 (play in windowed mode mostly) - http://www.nma-fallout.com/showthread.php?202265-Fallout-2-Restoration-Project-2-3-3-(Unofficial-Expansion)

FIXT has some really good stuff (an option to tell your followers to move their asses, for one) and some bizarre poo poo (I've been told you can for example gently caress the bald Brotherhood chick for the Mutant tape and it actually plays a clip of, uh, sex noises). But it's your best bet, I think - nobody really bothered with modding F1 much.

To follow up, most of the extra BS content like the bald brotherhood chick are optional iirc

Yeah I'll jump in and defend Fallout 3 as a decent open world game, at least as far as atmosphere and world building go.

New Vegas is still loads better overall but Fallout 3's world is not the bad part about the game.

They played with that in New Vegas. The NCR lost its gold reserves to the Brotherhood, so all their money is backed by water. It's why it's so valued so low in-game.

But to have water, no marker or token, as a currency? That would be an unwieldy currency system, even in a post-apocalypse setting.

Not to mention easily able to counterfeit. Just piss in a bottle!

Sometimes Fallout fans pick apart the games/lore way too much. To me, the bottle caps were always a way of saying "hey, here is how bad it got after Nuclear War, we use previously useless Bottle caps as a currency!"
