I just finished Dead Money for the first time. I definitely have mixed feelings about it--the story is incredibly good and locking Father Elijah in the vault was incredibly gratifying but the actual gameplay is kind of lacking. Hiding from radios and clouds and creepy gas mask people got old fast. That said now I have a bunch of kick-rear end gear and a lot of stimpacks.

Also, I saw someone mention that it gives you a nice hideout place. Can you actually use the chests in the Brotherhood of Steel bunker or do they respawn?

After playing Honest Hearts a bit, I have to say that it's a marked improvement over Dead Money. Not that Dead Money was bad, per se, but I'm definitely enjoying having a new area to explore, new NPCs, new quests, and so on. Not having to hide from radios is a nice improvement.

So I'm currently mid-replay after picking up the game for PC during the Steam sale (I had previously played it on PS3). With jsawyer.esp the game is tougher, but I was enjoying the crap out of it. I played and beat both Dead Money and Honest Hearts and loved both in their own way.

Old World Blues is totally kicking my rear end though. If it weren't for the holorifle I think I'd be completely hosed.

I love Wild Wasteland. Beside Johnny Five Aces showing up within the first thirty minutes, I got jumped by rollingpin wielding elderly women in pink skirts outside the closed shop in Freeside.

Do I have to find instructions for repair kits or do I just have to possess the proper ingredients?

Wild Wasteland is the only way to play New Vegas. I just about died laughing when, after fighting a whole bunch of gas mask-wearing Ghost Harvesters in Dead Money I saw a bit of graffiti saying, "I am NOT your mummy!"

That's a random event. I hate that event because the only time I've found the Firelance comes from when some enemy raider picked it up and straight up vaporized me.

If you don't have Mothership Zeta, there's also a permanent crashed flying saucer exactly in the place where that DLC begins. There's an alien blaster and some alien ammo around there which you can grab. And no, there's no map marker pointing to the downed ship.

I was under the impression that the JSawyer mod affected you, and the game difficulty affected everyone/everything else, so for it to be matched up, you'd go JSawyer + Easy (or very easy). Doesn't that allow for one-shot-kill opportunities for both the enemies and you?

I've been playing with JSawyer + Normal and haven't been one-shotted at all, with the exception of (OWB spoiler) the legendary bloatfly. It definitely makes the game harder, but it seems like the way in which the game gets harder isn't just related to to increased enemy damage.

It could've been prudent to have some of the Dead Money health drain in certain areas of Lonesome Road also I think, just to demonstrate the danger of the environment.

This would've made Lonesome Road awful (and mind you, it's my third favorite DLC of all time, only behind Old World Blues and The Secret Armory of General Knoxx for Borderlands). Between the marked men, tunnelers, deathclaws, radiation, and nuclear warheads, the last thing that DLC needed was some obnoxious bullshit like the Cloud.

It's right there on the inventory screen in the upper right corner.

edit: Or not. Huh. I guess that only shows up if you're using a gamepad for some reason. Anyway, just hold down a number button other than 2 and click on what you want to bind to it. 2 is permanently bound to cycling your ammo type.

It's worth noting that when you enter and exit a casino any non-holdout weapons will lose their hotkey binding.

So I am going to be playing through this game for pretty much the first time. Can I attack every npc I meet and do alright?

You'll piss off a lot of other NPCs and factions as well as lock yourself out of quests. That being said, outside of companions and children there's only one unkillable NPC (I think) so nothing's stopping you from doing that.

I legitimately can't remember a single countdown timer style announcement that actually did what it was supposed to when it hit zero. It's great that it's up on YouTube though.

Thoughts:

So the animations still look like poo poo. I like how the ghouls jumping over the shopping cart and pushing it aside was cleverly done in a way that almost hides this fact, but it's really nothing that couldn't happen in Fallout 3 or New Vegas. The environments look to be immersive though, and that's what I look for.

What time period does this take place in? I remember reading something about Bethesda decreeing that all games must advance the timeline; no going backward. The flashbacks to the nukes and the dog that looks like maybe it lived in that house make me think maybe it can't be more than twelve years or so... but then the Brotherhood of Steel have airships, so who knows.

I'm assuming the tutorial is the day the bombs drop, which would explain why they created all these pre-war assets.

Personally, I like the new style. You guys keep bitching about how the AAA chase for graphic fidelity is sucking money out of actual gameplay, then you complain when every game doesn't look like GTA V. I like the new palette and the flat shading and the slightly cartoonish shapes seem like a deliberate choice, to my eye.

That's Vault 11, not 111
