I'd say one of the weakest parts of New Vegas is that Speech essentially "wins" every conversation. Most skill dialogue options tend to do that, but Speech is near universal with it. I think Dean Domino is the only notable example of a skill check (technically) not being the "best" choice in dialogue, but your mileage may vary with Dean.

It does tend to declaw a situation when there's two options that only help one side, but then a third everyone-wins option is available. Not necessarily, but it does seem to show up in some narratively important scenarios, like Dog and God or the Followers-NCR treaty that I feel can make it seem a little too easy for a happy ending.

Yeah I guess they felt they needed make it possible to Pacifist the whole game, so talk-bossing Lanius was constructed. The trouble is that again, Speech is just "wins" the conversation. There's not really any interaction about it, just congratulations! You put enough points in the prerequisite skill!

It really doesn't help the fact that skill checks also provide experience, making them not only optimal for outcomes but optimal for progressing through the game.

Pile them on top of House's body after you lock him in his chamber to die.

I'm fond of taking out Benny by approaching and then dropping every piece of dynamite I'd picked up from Vegas to Goodsprings on top of him in the casino.

Sure, there's collateral damage, but I want my revenge to be explosive.

The Hastune Miku meme works for Minecraft because there's not really a narrative to unpack or dissect, but to do so with games like New Vegas is just irresponsible.

You can still enjoy the media made by lovely people but you just need to be able to be critical of it. Employing the Hastune Miku meme is basically a lovely attempt at forgoing being critical.

Also yeah like rope kid said, Avellone was only one of many that contributed to the game.

Far Harbor was FINE until it forced me into doing the dumb tower defense minigame using the base building mechanics.

Also I did it at like level 50 so I got stuck for a while fighting one of those androids that nukes itself when it dies, killing me in the process, in a tight little vault corridor.

The settlement stuff being gated behind certain stats sure was a choice, and then they made you use the same system to play a dumb tower defense minigame in the DLC. I had a lot of fun with Fallout 4 and all but that game is a gimmicky mess.

You can grab the Two-Step Goodbye and play unarmed while blowing yourself and others up.

The people who rated 3 better than New Vegas on Metacritic have bad taste.

Yeah I did the loop from Goodsprings to Vegas (by car, of course) a few years back and you just hit all the sights as you'd expect. Dinky the Dinosaur isn't real but there's a solar energy facility where Helios should be, Black Mountain has radio towers visible from the desert, and Goodsprings may as well look the same.

Nipton isn't the same anymore but last I heard it was bought by a weed company trying to turn into a circus or something? They had a little gift shop when I went there that sold just nothing but trashy marijuana-themed apparel. You do have to pass through essentially a mountain pass on your way to Searchlight, just like the geography of the game.

4 has unique dialogue shouts if you're drunk when you skip dialogue. Your character just goes "WOOOOO" or "hell yeah" and that's fuckin funny in its own right.

Gating all the settlement stuff behind the Charisma perks fuckin sucked so I just consoled them in when I wanted to build finally.

There's some good stuff hidden in 4 but it's buried underneath some of the dumbest stuff imaginable.

Yeah I have never skipped the DLC but I have always found OWB to be the most tedious of the four to replay. The Lobotomites and rad scorpions are just fuckin awful as it scales.

Yeah I agree that the tunnelers are the dumbest part. I get that they wanted some more variety than just legions and legions of marked men, but those were not the answer.

I never touched the Pitt, but all the others I agree to that. Operation Anchorage was a crime.

Look Fallout 4 has a lot of problems but having the player character interrupt and mumble over boring NPC dialogue when you press the skip button was a great choice.

Probably said it in the thread already but those mumbles turning into drunken shouts of "hell yeah" and "whoo!" when your character is intoxicated is just icing on the fuckin cake.

There's a psychic in New Vegas, he's just living under a bridge that I think hardly anyone finds and tells you a bunch of poo poo you already know.

Ghouls talk about arthritis, at least. They could've set it up as to why he wants this drug from the raiders, it's never clear exactly what it is, and at the end of the episode Lucy could've asked some surviving raider "what is this even?" and he says it's basically just for joint pain. Boom, punchline, roll credits.

Altogether the show was really joyless and unfun! Like even its attempts at humor were kind of juvenile, and their idea of making Lucy naive and optimistic really just made her seem like a child. Better than most video game adaptations, but that's not a high bar to clear.
