If you really want them to just loving die, load up some hollow point 5mm in this bitch right here which isn't really all that hard to get if you've got something to snipe centaurs with. Which, by the way, if you use while standing, is a waste - crouch for easy sneak-criticals and one-hit kills on drat near everything from a mile away.

I was mostly using HE rockets, Holorifle+, Elijah's Advanced LAER+, and Laser Rifle+. I didn't find many opportunities to kill tunnelers from long range. I just found them a chore to kill, unlike the Deathclaws which are always rewarding in their own way.

The first time I did the House ending I was expecting some crazy pre-war restoration plan from him like he rambles about. What ends up happening is nothing, and then the ending is totally bland.

I'm not sure what you expected, really; the ending slides for all factions only describe the aftermath of you settling who controls the Mojave. It's not like supporting the Legion tells you what happens after the Legion continues on into California, or the NCR ending tells you what happens as the republic grows.

Well I actually meant I expected some exposition by House before the game ending. But also it happens that the House victory slide is "Mr. House continued to run New Vegas his way, a despotic vision of pre-War glory. The streets were orderly, efficient, cold. New Vegas continued to be the sole place in the wasteland where fortunes were won and lost in the blink of an eye." The only secret pre-war knowledge he uses to restore anything is the platinum chip that you use half way through the main story.

Space travel wasn't built in a day. Caesar talks about uniting with the NCR, but there's none of that in the end slides either.

Between that slide and the one for the courier backing House up, you'd really have to have a formidable imagination to read that House ever takes any action on the space travel thing. As far as I remember neither the NCR nor Legion tell you that everything in the Mojave is just part of a larger secret plan, which then is promptly forgotten about and never mentioned again (Caesar's motivation in creating the Legion doesn't count in my opinion since everything that it does is exactly in line with his explanation, anyway).

Doug Lombardi posted:

Mr. House doesn't have any secret information, he's just an extremely intelligent and talented man. What kind of exposition were you hoping for?

He's a survivor of the great war and the central object of conflict for a large part of the game is an object that House alone has secret knowledge of?

I was hoping that he would give some high level speech on how he is going to realize the restoration of whatever stuff he needs to go into space (or any other goal really).

House and a good Courier is the best ending in my book.

In real life, House would be a awful choice to run a city, but in the New Vegas setting, he's the best bet for everyone. With a little clever work from the Courier, the majority will be better off. It's not like he's ruling Vegas, just working on it.

The House ending explicitly says that he rules it as a despot.

Did you exhaust all of his dialogue options? There's one bit where you can ask him if he'll be a dictator, and he explains what his vision for running Vegas will be like. I wouldn't mind another NV-like game, but they factions should work differently. Instead of having everything decided by the final quest, have it so that your character can take territory for a faction they've joined to help the faction expand. I'm thinking of a system similar to Stalker: Clear Sky, but actually make it work and affect the game besides locking you out of a few sidequests and giving you some extra gear. Let the player start out by grabbing territory from Raiders so they get a feel for taking places over without pissing off any other factions, then let them attack other factions directly. The final quest is affected by the faction the you've has joined and the amount of territory your faction has.

No offense but I hope they don't do that. New FO games are going to be pretty far between (for as long as they keep making them) and I would much rather the one I get to be focused on core RPG gameplay and content than introducing a new territory control system.

If this includes FO and FO2, and you are planning to play those, then I'd recommend playing FO, then FO2, then FO: NV. Then the rest you can play in whatever order, they don't really have anything to do with one another and are sort of each in their own parallel Fallout universe separate from the main 3.

Depends. A strictly no-theft playthrough is really rough. A lot of quests, if not outright requiring stealing, need you to steal/lockpick/sneak/hack your way through stuff for the best/most expedient ending. It's kind of like a no-Speech playthrough (1 CH, no Speech, no Barter :suicide: at least the economy was less broken). No-stealing stuff outside of a handful of important things (quest items and a few uniques) is totally doable and probably why I tend to think the economy is less busted than other people.

I usually play 1chr, doesn't make the game hard or tedious.

Did you put points into Speech? If not, the game's still not terribly hard, it's just that a lot of story options are locked off. You flat-out can't recruit Cass without 50 Speech or Barter. It's not a difficulty thing, it's being locked out of content, which is the same deal with stealing.

Not really. I've played the game and all the DLC, every quest, multiple times. The first n times I took 100 speech mostly to get the 'good' endings everywhere. There aren't that many places where you get straight up locked out of content without high enough speech, the only one I can remember off the top of my head is the unique 9mm SMG. Usually you can just kill people or do some extra quest or something to get to what you want.

That's kind of the point. The biggest theme of the DLCs is probably 'Being obsessed with the past sucks.' All of the people are built up as these huge archetypal hero/villans, but... Elijah and Christine have blinded themselves to anything but their crusades. Dean's a bitter old man who knows that he's wasted centuries trying for something that he doesn't even really want, but he can't admit it to himself. The Think Tank are pathetic people that literally can't get over the past and Mobius is a druggie trying to forget what he had to do to his friends to keep them from causing even more damage to the world. And Ulysses deliberately builds up the past of The Divide into some grand shining dream, when it was really just another podunk town who's only feature is that it happens to be on a trade route so that he can use its destruction as an excuse to himself for how badly his life has turned out. And all of them are kind of pathetic for it. They're not living, they're just existing.

Yes agreed. I was expecting something more from him since he is the character who put all of the events of the base game plus all of the DLCs into motion. That's just what my expectation was as someone tumbling through the story, I don't mean I'm disappointed in the story or anything.
