By that time you should be too busy playing the game to read the thread. Unless you live in some socialist country, I guess.

So considering I did pre-order this game I suppose I could post my link for ??? as well.

Anyway I'm really looking forward to spending some time with this game. I didn't get to play as much Demon's Souls as I wanted to, and this series seems to want a lot of time spent with it.

I have the game and I still take the time to post about it. In fact I hardly play the game during the times the sun is up, it's so much more pleasant to play it in the evening.

Fewer hit points and lower curse resistance, that's all I know for sure. But you have to be living to do certain things like upgrade bonfires, and some NPCs won't talk to you if you have a hamburger face.

I think mainly it's the fact that you can't call in human/NPC phantoms to help you fight. This makes some of the later boss fights considerably harder.

How big is the hitpoint drop? Not as bad as Demon's Souls, eh?

Yeah, not anywhere near as low.

And yeah, the biggest disadvantage is the same as being in soul form in Demons's: you can't summon people to help you.

Seriously, why the gently caress can't I switch my target between enemies with the right stick like I could in Demon's Souls? It only seems to work 1 out of every 10 attempts and it's really making dealing with groups of enemies a lot more difficult than it needs to be since I can't quickly move my target to the guy who is closest.

Yeah, there is some bug or something going on that makes target switching way, way less reliable than in Demon's. I have gotten used to simply un-targeting and then re-targeting to grab the nearest enemy.

Can we add the following as a spoiler to the OP (or second post or whatever), it's about which gifts to choose and I got the info and modified them from some wiki:

What starting gift should I pick?

Minor spoiler:Take the pendant or the master key.

Detailed spoiler:

In my view there are basically three options and one joke option. All of the other gifts are consumables that can be purchased later in the game.
  • The pendant. An NPC you'll meet later on will want it and you can only get it as a gift at the start of the game. This is the "enhance the plot options" choice.
  • The master key. As you play you'll find reusable keys as you go that unlock gates that mostly open up new areas. The master key replaces some of these and is also reusable so it allows you to sequence break a bit. There's also a door in the tutorial level which the master key opens that gives you a strong starting weapon -- it's the effective Crescent Falchion of Dark Souls. Note that the Thief starts with a free master key, so if you want to choose "all of the above" take a thief and pick the pendant.
  • No gift at all. This was one of the options suggested by the game's director. Why? We don't know yet. Maybe there's a reward for not taking a gift. It is :black101: though.
  • Joke option: the black firebomb. People use this to facilitate killing the tutorial boss which drops a unique weapon which requires a ton of strength to use.

Any idea what benefit giving this person the Pendant gets you? Fancy equipment or spells, or just some extra lines of dialogue?

Also, any idea what the Witch's Ring is for? That was another of the "no known uses" gifts.

There's not really a science to it. Go to places that are not chains, or do not specialize in selling video games. The idea is that they put them on the shelves because they don't know they are suppose to hold them till Tuesday, or they just don't care.

I think someone mentioned that the Pendant is given to an NPC to gain approval within the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant. You need the witch's ring in order to speak with members of the Chaos Servant covenant, who sell items. Apparently you can find one somewhere so it isn't necessary to start with it.

Is there any clear way to check which covenant I am in? I mean, for one of the NPCs (the guy in the bell tower who handles the book of the guilty) it says "break covenant" instead of "join covenant", so I assume it is his, but he never said which one he was with, don't even remember ever signing on with him. Is there some default covenant you start in?

Is anyone scoring CE's? As much as I want this game now I don't think I would even buy a standard if I ran into it. Although, considering you bought two copies I'm gonna go out on the limb and assume you are going to have a CE waiting for you on Tuesday as well.

I'm sadly going to buy both platforms too I think. I'm waiting for a price drop to buy the Xbox one though. I'd rather play on PS3 but I want the Xbox achievements.

Yeah that's what I've been doing too, when you un-target then target again it always seems to pick the nearest guy, so it's working out okay. I'm just reassured that it's not just happening to me!

In Demon's Souls all of the halberd's attacks did "normal" damage which is a different type than "slashing."

If you go into your options, there's a thing called 'auto targeting,' which you can turn on or off. I saw it on a stream and wasn't sure what it did - maybe de/activating it will make target-swapping more comfortable?

Here's a hint: If you get cursed, don't try to get your souls and humanity back. Just forget them and get the curse fixed first. Because curses stack, so after two curses you have 1/2 of 1/2 of your health left. I think this is pretty much game over for this character.
