You can, but I think it's limited to the same free 10 liquid you get killing enemies before the boss is dead. I ground out on Dark Anor Londo NPCs up to about 7, then not another drop.

Not exactly, it's my understanding (from reading the thread here) that each area has 10 "floating" humanity that you can absorb. Before you kill the boss, you will occasionally get it from killing mobs, after you kill the boss you can suck it from certain NPCs with the dark hand.

That would be pretty cool, but I don't think it's entirely accurate, and not everywhere has hand-able NPCs anyhow.

However, most friendly NPCs have humanity you can suck out of them. It's a finite, non-replenishing supply per NPC. Some(Siegmeyer, Solaire) don't go hostile until you've hit them a lot, in which case you can go back to a bonfire after a lifesuck and come back a few times to drain them while staying friends and finishing their side-quests. Others (Rhea) will go hostile immediately, but have so much humanity on them (like twelve) that you'll need to hit up a bonfire once or twice to avoid killing her before she's out of humanity.

I guess I didn't strictly mean NPCs, "human" enemies (like forest protector enemies, and the Dark Anor Londo guardians) seem to draw from the same limited pool when you. There might not be a post-boss option in every area?

It is canon, and it's in the dark sign item description. Something about when you die, the dark sign returns you to the last bonfire you rested at. Maybe it's something like the lord vessel warp... Not once in 4 playthroughs have I gotten past those archers in Anor Londo without losing all my souls and humanity. It's like they demand a toll before they allow me to finally pass.

You've gotta be on low encumbrance fast run (with a high stability shield if you can), so you outpace where the arrows are aimed. You can make it to the middle pillar where you're safe for a minute to catch your breath. Then go around the right edge and fast run up to the building.

Then comes the dangerous part - go to the right quickly and try to get into the knights face, because once you're there he'll put away his arrows and pull out his sword and you can kick him off. Also the left knight can't hit you from there. Getting there though, is very dangerous - the big trick is that when you're shot you fly back based on the angle you're facing - not where the arrow comes from. If you're like my and you instinctually face towards the wall so you don't fall off, getting shot will launch you right back. You have to manage your direction so the recoil will send you back against the wall.

And that is how I make it through there every time B)

So I recently bought a PS3. I loved playing Dark Souls on 360. Probably my game of the year for 2011. Would it be worth going back to play Demon Souls? Or should I get through a few of the other PS3 classic games first?

Definitely play demons souls sooner than later - it's server based multiplayer run by atlas, which they are only keeping up as long as there's interest in the game. That's not going to last forever so if you want to experience the game with phantoms and messages, play it before its too late. It's a great game too, I love them both (I platinumed dark souls) and while it is less polished in some ways, I would argue that it's got a better atmosphere than dark souls does. The tower of latria is terrifying! You'll also recognize a lot of enemy moves, the silver / black knights in dark souls use the same moves as the blue and red eye knights, the fat demons use the vanguards moves.

So - in short - yes! Play demons souls while you still can! :)

I don't get why they had to put in GFWL, they could have easily done the multiplayer through steam. I understand that they weren't able to add extra resolutions and uncapped FPS, although I've never heard of a 3d PC game not having that, I thought it was something easy to implement. I'm sure fans will fix it though. GFWL is pretty annoying and unnecessary though, I haven't had any significant problems with it, it's just annoying.

They didn't put anything "in" - they already had the 360 netcode, which even uses the same user accounts as GFWL. Does Steam do multiplayer? Maybe as part of Steamworks... but whether they would have been able to use that, or would have had to roll their own new netcode, it would have been vastly more effort.

GFWL is the only, obvious, choice.

You've got to turn in the scariest possible direction while on the ledge - as you get shot you get bounced to your back, not in the direction of the shot. So instead of turning towards the wall to hang on, you have to either face flat along the wall (and get knocked onto the ledge when he hits you) or turn away from the wall, out into the air, so you get knocked back into the wall.
