Is there some kind of trick to being invaded/invading others? I've been playing in human form for almost the entire game so far and I just rang the second bell and I've yet to be invaded. I finally decided to take things into my own hands and tried using my cracked red eye orbs. I had 4 and used each one in a different location and very time I got the "looking for a world to invade" message and a couple seconds later got "failed to invade." Now I have no orbs to invade with since all the ones I owned failed, and I'm not about to waste 5k souls to waste more of them. Am I missing something here? I'm on 360 if that makes a difference.

For all the hatred O+S are getting I feel like I must have gotten incredibly lucky killing them solo on my second attempt. The first time I fought them I think I lasted all of 10 seconds. I walked in got my face smashed in twice and that was that. Second time through I played more cautious and ended up getting by with an estus flask to spare. (Out of 5) Not trying to be all here, I just thought after my first beating it would take a lot more attempts. All I did to beat them was: Hit Ornstein early with 3 +10 fireballs, (the other 5 missed, the protagonist throws like a girl) then I just watched Smough's hammer the entire fight, and stayed far enough away so Ornstein's lunge could be dodged by walking backwards a bit. I then just counter lunged Ornstein with my crystal halberd a couple times and he dropped like a sack of bricks. Mega-Smough was a joke, just stand under his legs and watch as he futilely swings his hammer as you wail away at his groin. The only attack of his that caused me any grief was his electric ground pound which was mainly a pain because it breaks lock-on with completely disorients me every time.

So after finally beating the game for the first time today, I've embarked on a ninja gaiden run. No-shield (or as close to no-shield as I can manage), a katana, woodgrain ring, and the fireball spell. (Not sure which armor I'll wear yet, maybe painting guardian for the ninja look) I will say even without blocking the game is a lot easier the second go around, I didn't have my first death until I fought the Bell Gargoyle and my death was only due to getting caught between the two flame breaths without any protection. Also I know people were saying two hand playthroughs aren't as viable due to less invincibility frames compared to demon's souls, but I find as long as I roll around when the strike would land I get away just fine. I never played demon's souls so I can't compare but was it really a lot more lenient than this?

I have to turn off my sound whenever I want to look anything up because that stupid thing gives me a headache.

Just noticed something I thought was pretty interesting, apparently when the shadow figures of other players that sometimes appear get near a fire they show their actual form. Someone was apparently fighting one of the NPCs near firelink and I saw their blue outline then they rolled near the fire and saw they were a cleric wearing their starting armor, then they rolled away from the fire and became a shadow again. Thought it was kinda cool.

If you don't know what you're doing in terms of weapon upgrading crystal weapons aren't too bad. I used a crystal halberd to beat O+S when my +5 katana wasn't cutting it. Then I learned about the lightning zweihander.

Welp, this is not my night. Got cursed in the depths trying to get that stupid ring. Spent the next hour and a half grinding souls to fix the curse. Broke the curse went back to the depths, fell in a hole got cursed instantly again. On that note why the hell does the wanderer have an intrinsic 30 curse resist? That's not even enough time to realize you're in a curse cloud.

sentrygun posted:You can run straight through a petrification cloud at minimum curse resist and not get petrified. If you're having trouble with the basilisks, find the path through the Depths that doesn't intersect with them. If you want to go take them on still, be more careful and roll away when they breathe. Once the cloud dissipates, run in and maul them, rolling out if there's any danger of sitting in a curse cloud for a bit. The sad part is this is my second playthrough, I beat the game the first time never getting cursed, and with relatively little difficulty so I decided to do a SL10 playthrough. (I wanted a second attunement slot)I think I'm just having an off night, I kinda rushed after breaking the first curse since I just finished grinding souls 300 at a time, and I got in a bad situation where I was surrounded on all sides by curse.

I'm on my second playthrough now, and I have to say this game is a lot more fun when you embrace the multiplayer. My first time through I did everything solo and only became a human when I needed to kindle a bonfire. For this playthrough I decided to keep my level low and help people cheese the early bosses. I'm now killing the gargoyles for people with me +15 pyromancy flame wearing nothing but the ridiculous Xanthous crown. The only problem I've had so far is that ever since I joined the sunlight bros covenant I've seen my summons completely drop off. I've gone from getting summoned every 10-20 minutes after my white sign was placed to getting summoned every 30-60 minutes if I'm lucky when I use the 'gold' white sign. Does anyone else have this problem? Are people just afraid of summoning gold phantoms?

Well my no shield, light armor was going well and was incredibly fun up until now. This playthrough has made me understand just how awful of a boss the four kings are. They're incredibly easy if you're just a heavy armor melee character, but if you want to play as a dodging character you're SOL. Seriously, can you even dodge his long distance energy shot thing, or his grab attack. I've tried every possible roll I can think of and they both hit me every single time without fail. I really didn't want to resort to breaking my no shield run, but this appears to be impossible without one.

sentrygun posted:There's a way to dodge everything, so yes, there is a way to dodge the energy shot, it's just not easy. For a progress update, I did successfully dodge the pink energy shot once. To dodge it I had to sprint diagonally in front of it. However, the thing follows for so long that Four Kings was able to wind up another swing, and he one-shotted me. Looks like I'm gonna have to cheese it with iron flesh, it's gotten to a point where I can't even get into striking distance half of the time, he either just keeps backing up and throwing pink stuff at me or I get close and he just comboes grabs till I die.

Guess I'll just keep plugging away at it, I've gotten close a few times managing to kill 2-3 kings in an attempt, I just tend to get overwhelmed, or get too far away so their attacks one-shot me.

Alright, thanks for all the help guys, I finally beat the Kings. Ended up getting a lucky break when the kings decided melee was the way to go. They kept spamming the ridiculously easy to dodge thrust attack, and never once went for a grab or their shockwave attack which let me keep it to a one vs. one and let me keep the fight close. I still contend they're by far the worst boss fight just because they force you to play a game of who can hit harder which is pretty lame.

The last few days I've been getting summoned within 10 minutes at the bell gargoyles, and I've been playing around 9-10 PM EST. I have to say being a sunbro is probably my favorite part of this game, I'm just using the most ridiculous looking endgame gear (smoughs legs, xanthous crown etc.) at level 15 to help people with gargoyles. Ever since I started killing gargoyles in 2-3 hits I've been getting some pretty good thank you messages. A lot of people either thank me cause they've been stuck there forever, or they tell me they've been inspired to become a sunbro too so they can pass the favor along. Makes me kind of sad that I plan to join the darkwraiths soon cause you can only abuse the gargoyles for so long.

Just want to thank whoever in this thread suggested using the dark hand while invading. I've been invading people at the parish for the last couple days now and its probably the most fun I've had so far. Whenever I run into someone clearly on their first play through, I hit them once with a toxic mist, and then I try to steal their souls until they kill me via attrition, or I get bored. The only problem with this is the ridiculous amount of people in end game gear waiting for invaders. Since I'm not geared for them I just throw dung at them and try to hit them with acid surge before they kill me.

Does anyone know if darkwraith invading uses the standard system of 10+10% as far as what soul levels you're allowed to invade? I ask because I was doing some invading with my level 15 character, and I decided to mess around using toxic on people and then letting them die in a slow battle of attrition. One of the guys I invaded was wearing full Havel's gear and I managed to get toxic on him, but after avoiding him for a good 4-5 minutes he had around 1200 points of damage on him (without using any estus) and he still had a solid 10-20% of his health left. It's possible he may have put every last attribute point into vitality and he was level 26 or so, but that wouldn't really explain how he could wear full havel's without being overencumbered. I've also noticed I tend to get summoned to a lot of NG+ players which is getting a bit boring because I just want to use my dark hand. I hate having to use actual pyromancies and slowly fight them using one quick attack at a time.

PKJC posted:The rule for darkwraiths is different, any SL equal or higher than your own is a valid invasion target. I figured as much, they seemed too strong to be my level. I just like to mess with the Dark Hand's R2 attack, I keep my lightning Iato if things get hairy. I only really invade to get humanity, and I'm only a darkwraith so I can invade unlimited times, so unless I'm on par with my opponent or I can hit them with the Dark Hand R2 I usually just try to mess with high level opponents since there's no penalty for losing. For example, I managed to last about 15 minutes with havel's gear guy, I knew I couldn't hurt him so I pulled a scooby doo and just ran away in the dumbest ways I could think of. I stopped halfway down ladders and climbed back up, ran up stairs just to turn around and bounce on his head, and opened and closed gates to block his path. He ultimately ended up killing me, but it was all worth it for the amazing hate mail he ended up sending me.

Irony.or.Death posted:I finally got the red eye orb for my low SL lifehunt scythe PvP build and it is glorious. First invasion, I show up right outside the gargoyle room, kill a white phantom who's packing wrath of god, and then murder Solaire with the same hit that kills me via blood loss. I really need to go pick up the bloodbite ring; this thing is too much fun. I say go for 15 for the attunement slot, it's always fun to have a second magic slot available for gimmick spells like toxic mist and fire surge. Especially if you're low level invading at the church, pull out some end game magic and watch as new players try to figure out how the hell you're doing what you're doing at level 10. You'll still be able to invade down to level 4 so it's not a big loss either.

Do I have to wait until I avenge her death? I made the mistake of consuming my first Firekeeper soul and the old Estus+0 is kind of lame at this point. I suppose those things hardly need to be spoilered anymore, but I'm still more than 500 pages behind so I don't know. You'll find someone to upgrade your flasks shortly after you complete Sen's. Actually, I believe the spider lady will do it too. (she's behind a hidden door in the room under the second bell) I never used her though so for all I know I'm wrong. e: Beaten, but at least I was correct on the spider lady.

RBA Starblade posted:By the way are there still a lot of players on the 360, or if I want co-op should I just get the pc version when it comes out? I restarted this game on 360 a few days ago and I've already been invaded twice and I was summoned for co-op 4-5 times in a few hours, which is more than I had when I played this game at launch. I'd assume there's still a decent Xbox community. Quick gameplay question, I'm playing as a sorcerer for this playthrough after never using magic in this game. I saw raising dexterity will increase casting times, but is it worth going from, say, 11 DEX to 20 DEX, or does the bonus only really matter around 30+ DEX. It seems like a nice bonus, but I'd rather increase INT 20 points than waste it in DEX when I'm trying not to rely on melee again.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but is it known how the dedicated PvP system will work in the DLC? Will it just be a neutral arena, with no estus flasks, or is there still an attacker and defender? Will souls still be up for grabs, or is it just a side-game? I love the PvP in this game, but I hate invading and then having to fight for 3 hours as my enemy drinks his 15 estus flasks. I think the game would benefit from cutting duels down to no healing items (except miracles), so you could actually drop enemies in a timely fashion.

Mangoose posted:I got invaded in Anor Londo while I was fighting a couple of enemies. Usually people just take advantage and start trying to finish me off, but this guy backed off and waited for me to kill the enemies and heal up. Then he walked up and bowed before he wrecked my poo poo In short, no reason not to wear it, unless you're wearing really light armor, or are doing a ranged build, extra HP and encumbrance is too good to pass up. There's only 2 areas in the game where you're more or less required to wear a specific ring, so if you want to wait until getting past those parts (you'll know when you get to them) that's an option as well. Now that PC version is out I don't know if we're back to spoiler tags on all bosses, but I'm on my 3rd playthrough and this is the first time I fought Sif at the appropriate time, so I actually had to grind it out with him. I never realized how sad the last 10% of his health bar is. I knew he slowed down, but I never knew he would just collapse under the weight of the sword when he tries to swing it. Now I understand why everyone hated the end of that fight.
