Anyone have any experience with Dayton Audio's DTA-120 T-Amp?

http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dta-120-class-t-digital-mini-amplifier-60-wpc--300-3800

My old receiver stopped being able to player stereo, and I need something cheap that can power bookshelf speakers and has a headphone jack.

Price difference is so small that I would suggest buying a Sony receiver if only for the remote. Refurbs start from $95.

I was sorta hoping for something smaller than a normal sized receiver.

I'm considering the topping TP30 too, I'm thinking the built in DAC would be an upgrade over my onboard sound.

Not sure if you already pulled the trigger on something but I may have one of these for sale that has been sitting unused. It did a good job for what I needed it for but after I moved into a place with speakers in less rooms I haven't been making good use of it.

Need to confirm I don't have a use for it when I get home but I think in probably good to let it go

Edit: mine is a DTA-100a, but I only bought it 1.5 years ago so it's one of the later ones.

Thanks for the offer but I think I'm gonna go with one of the DAC ones instead, I like the idea of getting off my onboard sound.

Just got the Topping VX1 and hooked it up.

http://www.amazon.com/TOPPING-Tripath-Subwoofer-Amplifier-Digital/dp/B00H6XDE4S

Headphones and bookshelf speakers sound clearer than my old setup of onboard sound plus an old stereo receiver. It has plenty of power and the controls are very clean and easy to use. Overall I'm happy that I was able to get a USB DAC + Basic Headphone Amp + T-Amp for $120.

I've been eyeing that DAC/Amp as well. What bookshelf speakers do you have?

I got a pair of newer Dayton Audio B652s, so not great but tolerable. I will probably upgrade them soon.

Unless I'm missing something, that wouldn't work well since the RCA outputs on the A2+ are designed for a sub and the volume goes up and down with the speaker volume. And you can't turn off the speakers and still have the RCA output working.

I think you're right. A headphone amp with line out would probably make the most sense with the A2+s. But then you are getting into more money.

I figured there would be DACs which would let you select between Headphones and Line Out, but I can't find any with a button/knob like that. Do most of them just mute line out when you plug in headphones?

Are you including good headphones in your $1000 budget? Because that changes things a little.

You could do USB DAC/Headphone Amp combo to studio monitors and a sub, or a 5.1 home theater receiver to passive speakers if you decide you really need a center channel. Not sure what other options there are tbh.

Any good budget options for listening to spotify over wifi in a medium sized room?

Seems like google chromecast audio makes the most sense, and then I just have to decide between studio monitors, a t-amp and bookshelf speakers, or an old stereo amp and bookshelf speakers. Budget is $100 I guess?

Asking in here since it's pretty close to a PC setup

I think my PC speakers (Logitech z5500 5.1) have finally died after a decade or so. From reading the last ten pages or so, here's what I think I'll be getting. All I really do on the PC is video games, music, and TV. Let me know if I messed anything up or went overkill on something:

- pair of LSR 305s or A2s. Desk space is kind of limited, so if I went with the LSRs, I'd probably need to get stands as well.
- Schiit Modi 2 Uber so I can plug in other devices like a PS4.
- Schiit Magni Uber for a volume knob and headphone jack
- a bunch of cables (haven't looked into what I'll need yet)

I would probably just get a cheap receiver and bookshelf speakers instead of trying to patch together all of that stuff.

Hello friends!

Can anyone recommend a pair of speakers that would meet the following criteria:

* 2.0;
* Small footprint - ideally no longer than 4-5" (maybe 6") in any dimension;
* Better quality than your standard Logitech or Creative crap, but nothing too high-end (they will only be used a few times a fortnight for basic listening);
* Max $150, but would prefer lower.

Thanks for your time. :)

At that price point you might want to consider a t-amp and some compact passive speakers.

Might be better options for compact passive speakers, I just looked at what parts express had.

I did just find one on amazon that has a toggle, for $300(!). The convenience of a button press isn't quite worth that.

It's not about reaching, my DAC is right under my monitor. It's just an annoying motion to do dozens of times during a gaming session (when I get up from the computer, which is a lot, I like to toggle over to the speakers so I can still hear discord/music/game etc from the rest of the house and then toggle back to headphones when I sit down). I was hoping there would be a cheap/easy solution to just hit a button instead. I know I could just a hotkey in windows if i were using the integrated audio, but I'm not.

Not a bad idea. How do headphone jacks usually detect the presence of headphones? Is it a physical switch that detects something in the jack, or is it actually looking for electrical resistance from the headphones? If it's the latter, seems like that would work fine..

I have one of these and it works really well
