Gandalf is young enough and small enough to not register to your original cat as competition but rather possibly a new family member/offspring Also I wish to pet the creature.

That's awesome - I'm so happy seeing successful cat intro stories. We're a few days into introducing new cat Mia into the home. We've got her in one room by herself to settle in. Still very nervous around us - hiding and watching but not fleeing. But! Was apparently part of a bonded pair with her sister at the shelter and is reportedly VERY fond of any other cats. The person we adopted her from has 3 void boys and she spent a lot of time rolling and flirting with them whole hiding from any humans. Hopefully she'll be as friendly with our resident void Poco.... ... aaand they've just realised there's another cat in the home via smells under the door. Apparently the "new cat carrier that smells like another cat" + "they keep going, with cat food, into this one room I'm locked out of" aren't clues enough for smallbrains. Here's a VERY CONCERN girl: ![]() listening to the most heartbreaking wails of "friend! Please, I know you're there, come play with me!" from new cat. Unfortunately she's (aside from old man Leo who died recently) not really familiar with other cats and is still at the hiss and cry uncertainly stage. Fingers crossed she comes around!

He is the softest ball of fluff and smells of kitten when you bury your face in his belly and he's such a dumbass.

My father had a white cat named Gandalf. It was long before I was born, but he loved that cat.

Of course you'd have two cats in the cardboard box, with the nice soft cat bed absorbing the kitty overflow.

Dabir posted:Cats just make everything better don't they Yes, though my boy caught his first mouse recently. I felt terrible for that poor mouse. I bought humaine traps and baited them with crushed nuts. That way, if a mouse is caught he has food, and I can take him to the huge park over a mile away and release him to live a life of mousy freedom. With animals I am a gentle, loving soul. Humans can get bent.

Not sure if this is lucky or unlucky; at night I’ll wake up to the sound of scurrying and crashing and it will just be my black furry shadow hovering over some little squeaky thing under the radiator, gently batting to try to get the squeak to start playing again.

That's sweet, though hard on the mouse. I'm a right bastard when it comes to humans, but a gentle soul with animals. My housemate literally called me stupid for what I did in my last post, putting out humane traps so that the mouse can be released into the wild. I don't want my cat to catch anything, but the average house mouse is utterly inoffensive and I'm tired of people treating them as vicious, disease-riddled vermin. These are not the rat plagues of 14th century Europe carrying Black Death.

We try to release them when we can catch them, but it's an ancient house and inevitably they end up back inside through some hole or other. We recently bought a bunch of peppermint-oil-based rodent repellant that we're going to spread around the outer perimeter. In the meantime I guess our cats can enjoy their interactive cat toys a little longer.

One winter we had a really bad mouse problem and after a traumatic incident with a kill-trap, my mom went and bought a rodent cage and a bunch of live traps. We caught all the mice (including babies) and just kept them until spring, when we drove them to a park far away from the house to release. Mom was a huge softy. I am too, honestly.

We tried the cage thing but noticed that the mice were pretty much just hiding in separate corners. Maybe we should invest in one of those huge rodent play spaces with pipes and stuff. Hmm...

Hmm... We had one with tubes and lots of little nooks and crannies. I think our mice were also one family, which probably helped them get along. I wish I had pictures, but this was long before camera phones were a thing. In the 9 years I've had Snowflake, he's gifted me three mice. One dead, one alive, one half-way. I'm not sure what's worse. Dead is pretty easy, but catching a live mouse under a tupperware container so that I can yeet it into the yard like a spider is no fun. Neither is drowning a half-dead creature before morning coffee. My other cat Ethics is a terrible hunter and hasn't brought me anything except toys.

I once had a spider in my bathroom that I named George. I was afraid that I would hurt him if I tried to move him and I refused to kill him, and eventually he died of starvation because there were no bugs in my bathroom. I still feel bad about that. I should have done the tupperware thing. I also once had a tiny ant invasion at another residence. I solved the problem by buying some boiled sweets/hard candy and placing them on the opposite side of the anthill from my house. Worked a treat.

My boy Rokit is being rehomed today I’ve had him for 10 years this month, he was 2 months old when he came in. I’m having to do this because of a move and I cannot take him with me. But I know he’s going to a great person who will love him. He’s doped up as it will be easier to transport him and start his transition. ![]() Adios, buddy.
